I mean, honestly I didn't see the day I would give Dauntless a bombing review, but their Awaking update really did just drive the game into the ground, and the playerbase into a state of madness. Completely removing core features, and simplifies a lot of other ones, and NOT in a good way. I swear, it felt like I woke up in a new universe where my presence was acknowledged and familiarized, but my experience had been ripped away from me. With my style choices intact, laid a foreign weapon on my back. Concern washed over me, and I continue to play. Hours pass, and I feel no closer to where I left off a month prior. As I explore more of the changes, there's just more I wish I didn't see. Goodbye Dauntless, and goodbye Phoenix Lab. These changes leave a sour taste in my mouth, and many others who wasted thousands of hours in a game we once treasured. You certainly did us a disservice this day.

So, i actually got back into the game a few days ago, ofc like anyone else, I was mad that my weapons and my build was gone, but i went to see what was going on, i found out that the weapons in the store can be obtained by doing rumour questlines, and the biggest problem i had apart from all my weapons missing was the cells, it took me about 2-3 days to figure it out, and made the whole game more confusing

My ex and I have played both dauntless as well as monster hunter, and for the most part we both agreed Dauntless just wasn't fun. Compared to monster hunter, dauntless felt empty. The environments were wide and open with very little to show in the surroundings. The enemies were cool but the gameplay just wasn't enjoyable when you learn you can just constantly revive. Monster hunter was more challenging, visually appealing and for the most part more creative with what they do.

I think not knowing dauntless existed until a week ago is a pretty huge condemnation of those epic deals in the long term. It really looked like a game I'd love if I played it in it's heyday.

As someone who's been with dauntless since early access it's absolutely disappointing and disheartening to see it go down this path. Dauntless was something really special and I was super excited for this update, having a bow seemed really cool but no, they had to ruin it and they had to never release the bow. All in all just piss poor everything, I wish this game just went in a completely different path and that this is a fever dream. Can't believe I lost all my weapons...

"pay to skip quest" is the most asinine decision a game studio can make

I remember playing it in i think 2015 or 2016. Played it for 14 hours straight with a friend. We suddenly realized its 2 am and dark outside. Played it for a long time. Than an update chganged the HUB and basicly deleted all Armors we had and their level ups. Killed the enjoyment for us pretty hard and we never returned Edit: Holy shit the Alpha was 2017 ... seems longer ago. I guess i played it in 2017 than. I know it was definitly the beginning as i remember the introduction of the striker weapons which would for a long time the most busted weapons. God the Thunderclap was a work of art

deleted peopels loot .... and then locked the weapons to an element unless you buy them with real money.... and then loot boxes instead fo crafting in a monster hunting game ... yikes, I enjoyed the game but stoped playing and swaped over to wrold because dauntless was suffering severa issues with matchmaking and lag making some monsters un fightable because you would get hit and 3 seconds later see the animation etc. checked back in a few times and saw that issue was never fixed and now I see all this happened, so sad ofc it all comes back to crypto scam company buying them out, what a shock crypto ruins things, neeeeeeever seen that happaen every single time that scam slop is involved -.-

11:22 If we use the average of what game studios can put out in 10 years the average comes wayyyyyyyyy down when you consider this year's games. Such as Concord. Some of these studios are approaching negative games per year, or per studio lifetime lmfao.

i find it interesting how i see a lot of creators saying this update "killed" dauntless but the game seemed dead long before and this was an attempt to reverse it which failed

Dauntless was fun in the beginning... Then it became a shitshow. Never played Fae.

It hurts in so many ways. they removed the 'Neutral' element, got rid of all the crated weapons and gave you their transmog for free in return. Weapons we had to grind our asses off for might i add, the escalation boss weapons costed 1.5k of their common drop, while you got about 14 each SUCCESFUL run, that's more than 100 runs for 1 weapon, there were 7 in total making it basically 800+ escalation runs just to craft them, leveling them up needed a lot more (but within all those runs you probably already got a lot so that's less important). You are now forced to use a certain weapon you could possibly have never liked to get advantage on dmg. And don't even get me started on the change of behemoth behavior and interrupt moments. I liked the weapon guilding system making it so that if you wanted to power up armor to the max you needed the resource from doing so. Even if it changed the power level of your weapon type each reset. If you were skilled enough it would not bother you to do hard escalations solo with a lvl 1 weapon (cus it didn't matter to me) as to get it back up to high lvl in a run or 2. I used to love the grind of this game, but with awakening and having tried it, i think i might just hang my coat and leave. All builds, weapons and grinded armor are now just dust in the wind. Sad to see one of my fav games to get killed by their creators instead of by another game. Time to go back to monster hunter i guess.

Monster Hunter not having a real competitor is weirdly enough not a bad thing. I did like Dauntless when it first was released as it felt more "casual" than MHW but it never really felt like a real competitor to me, especially with Worlds focus on the environment and stuff

Not surprised. once they started butchering weapons and straight up changed the animations for chain blades I gave up. I fucking loved the wide swinging attack of the chain blades, it felt so amazing and they decided to nerf it... which was fine but THEY TOOK AWAY THE WIDE SWINGING ATTACKS I LOVED SO MUCH. I promptly quit the game and lie in wait for them to revert it but no such thing happened. fuck whoever destroyed one of my favorite weapons in any game ive ever played.

Why was this thing even a thing. As a 20+ year MH fan I never even downloaded the demo. Whats a shame is that games like this get the time of day. It was shovelware from the start competing with an established franchise with multiple different generations each with their own unique appeal.

Dauntless hasnt been a competitor to mh ever

I had played Dauntless a little at launch, but didn't really get into it until just before the Umbral escalation was added and we went to the current Ramsgate. After running that first Umbral escalation, I was hooked. I would play day in and day out for months just jamming to music, slaying monsters and making friends in the community. They should've just added the weapon swapping and a new Behemoth and left the rest of the game as is. When I logged in to see what this new update was about and seeing all my progress and time wasted and gone, my heart was crushed. I immediately uninstalled and I'm just gonna wait for Wilds to get my giant monster slaying fix.

I played back in Beta! Loved this game and apparently left right before the Dark Ages. I’m shocked to see how far this studio and game have fallen. Dauntless will always hold a place of nostalgia for me.

I enjoyed seabeasts, until it became httyd but with sea monsters. I know why they did it, but I would have far preferred if they kept the sea monsters as just that, monsters

I just love the cope around Dauntless being a successful competitor on the market. Nobody ever talked about it. It literally got eclipsed by MHWorld. It was an Epic exclusive : that alone killed its potential success. If the game really was successful, how do you explain the company selling itself TWICE to recoup their infrastructure costs? Like...what? Dauntless has never been successful nor a competitor. It was just there and the devs took the wrong decisions at every turn.

I farmed out for the prismatic grace, tragic echo, the God hand, the hunger, and the edge of tomorrow in dauntless, they removed all but the huger and the godhand and compensated the players who did the same grinding i did, with a free transmog. Huzzah

I only wish a swift death for this game, and whilst that hurts me to say after a consistent 4+ years of playing this and it being a pivotal piece of media to me as a person. I wish it only an honourable death, that it is spared being dragged through the mud, I want to remember it fondly not how it is now. And it hurts me to hear that they also drop another game that without a doubt in the the right hands would’ve create a similar dedicated cult following. I played a lot of Dauntless much, much earlier in its lifespan; I stopped playing back when they sold out to Epic, and cut all contact with the game. I knew that was the moment the game's soul died. I really didn't want to know what happened to it after that, because I knew its inevitable fall would be severely upsetting, and I didn't want to watch. This is the first time I'm hearing about Dauntless in ages, and I wasn't even sure it still existed. I was probably hoping it didn't. The game was genuinely wonderful in the beginning, with incredible potential and an amazing community, and what happened to it was a slow, cruel murder by evil people. Even though it was short-lived, I'll always treasure the time I had with it and the Slayers I shared it with so many years ago.
