(1988, Lincoln Center) Operatic Bass-Baritone, Timothy Nolen, performing the tenor aria, Nessun Dorma from Turandot. Despite having a lower range voice, he is able to hit a high B4. Really shows the endurance of this fine and underrated singer. His final concert performance before his run as the Phantom in POTO.
Timothy Nolen - Phantom of the Opera (Last Performance, Curtain Call) - Dicitencello Vuje

(1989) From Timothy Nolen's last performance as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera. After the curtain call, an emotional and tearful Timothy Nolen, who was still in costume and makeup, serenaded the cheering crowd with his farewell song, Dicitencello Vuje, which in english means (Tell Her I Love Her). Very much a song that the Phantom would sing to Christine in his Lair. Timothy would go o...
Timothy Nolen - Music of the Night (Debut Performance)

(1988) Timothy Nolen in his debut performance as the Phantom, taking over Michael Crawford. Timothy is actually an operatic Bass-Baritone, so parts of the score, like Music of the Night, were transposed to fit his range. His portrayal of the Phantom is really one of the best. I regard him as one of the greatest Phantoms of all time.

Today (23 years later!!)Laird plays the role of Monsieur Andre and Alternate Phantom on Broadway! An underated phantom with a big stage presence and a big voice! All credit to the Really Useful Group

One of my personal All-Time Great Phantoms. Mark Mckerracher performing The Music of the Night from the 1995 UK Touring Production of The Phantom of the Opera, at the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre. Mark has a very powerful bari-tenor voice, with an incredible range, which he showcases in MOTN. Leave a like and comment below your opinion! All credit to the Really Useful Group.

Hey you want to see something funny... Slip me a Mickey😂
🌌🤭
This guy def went to the University of Michael Crawford. 10/10
I'm sorry but can you confirm this is really him? Where did this recording come from? The Lyric didn't have a 50th in 1979, it was their 25th, and Timothy Nolen was not on the program.
It’s pretty special isn’t it?
A beautiful rendition. I would love to hear more of him! He makes me think of Mario Lanza...
He CLOSED the Broadway Production & I am Honored to call him myFriend!!
If anyone is interested in Timothy Nolen's opera works. Here is another one. And a famous one. Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Siviglia) ua-cam.com/video/WyyNqZCBStQ/v-deo.html
Wow haven’t heard a phantom with such a mix of ethereality and power in his voice before 😮 🥀
Oh my god. Please give me more of those operas. Phantom/Sweeney Todd/ whistle down the wind are not enough!
OK after I listened to Timothy‘s phantom, I stopped listening to any other version. I am not saying that other phantoms are bad, and I still like many of those guys (such as Hugh Panaro). But Timothy’s voice is exactly what I think the phantom’s voice should be! And I do love bass baritone voice.
Just an incredible voice. Probably the best "be" I've ever heard.
He's not as bad as the creative team said he was, it's sad he only lasted a few months
He is the best pilate of jesus christ superstar
Ah I love this thanks for sharing!!
A Baritenor? Okay. That is something I've never heard of. But great performance. Such a booming range. And how he held those long notes like that. Wow! I am blown away here.
Exactly as I always imagined the Phantom to sound. wow!
Thanks for listening! Happy you liked it! His voice really does define the phantom, doesn’t it? Nice rich deep operatic voice
As a Bass-Baritone, this is so REFRESHING to hear!!!!!!
My first phantom
I sooo wish u did audio trading LOL I'd love the full show of this he is amazing, just by hearing this he is one of my new favs
So much squillo!
Yo I know this guy from the original run of the Broadway show Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd 😻😻
@@oliverdelica2289 He actually wasn’t in the original run. He replaced the original for a short duration before he sustained vocal technique trouble. All the same impressive.
Hold the phone. Is he an actual opera singer?
Yep! He had a really amazing career. Performed in the Met, the SF Opera, Chicago Opera, and in Europe!
@@phantomphan873 wow
@@scotthamp384 and he did phantom, which I think was his finest. I would’ve gave anything to see him live.
@@phantomphan873 I know he was. He was the second principal Phantom on Broadway and the first baritone. However, he only did six months of his 2-year contract
J’ai eu la chance de l’entendre en vrai, merveilleux
I saw this guy live and he was even worse in person. 👎
Not a good Phantom.
Why? Did you see Craig live on stage and not like him? He definitely had a good grasp on the character in my opinion. In fact, he's portrayal is one of the most humanistic approach to the role. I've seen 11 Phantoms on stage and wish I had seen more. Thankfully with UA-cam I can see a bunch of others in bits of pieces. My go to scene is 'The Final Lair.'
Humbly disagree.
I saw Craig as Phantom on tour in Cleveland, OH back in August 1997 I believe. Clearly, he was one of the best Phantoms I’ve seen (11)! He brings humanity to role and doesn’t overplay the emotions like so many do.
A great Valjean, and an equally good Phantom!
Thanks more of him?
Can you upload ‘The Final Lair?’
He sounds phenomenal! One of the best MOTN I ever heard!
Was directed here from an outstanding performance as Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar :)
3,0, indeed
@@Pannkakaize agreed. But Fred sounded like he struggled, especially in the higher register
@@leonardowilson7709 yeah.
Wow not bad 😀. Do you have Margret Ann Gates? From the Toronto production?
His technique could be healthier, but all the same impressive - wow!
@@rhaczilla5141I’m actually a fan but I don’t turn a blind eye to problems with my favorites. A true fan can objectively point out problems with performances and hope they correct them. :)
Well I wish he had sung a song less camp and more beautiful in French or German but even with this, I can’t help but like him more.
Very choppy acting and dynamic delivery and his vocal technique and vocal acting could be healthier... but with that said, excellent job. Now if only they’d be willing to hire a contralto or mezzo-soprano to play Christine... sadly... I doubt they will but maybe one day.
Just out of curiosity, how was James Barbour and Anthony warlow (my 2 favorites ) able to do this role everyday. I know Warlow is a lyric Baritone but still in Melbourne I think he did MOTN in C major. With Mr . Barbour, how was he able to keep doing this role with his baritone (almost bass-baritone) qualities?
They both did very well! Barbour in particular. He is a dramatic Baritone with a tenor range. Warlow, because of his bout with cancer, was not as strong in the 2007-2009 run as phantom as he was in the 90s. Timothy, because he is operatic trained singer, was really able to do this role and bring the house down.
Can’t understand it
Versatile isn't the word for it! I don't know if there *is* a word for it! Bravo, Tim!!
@@phantomphan873 I was fortunate to have worked with Tim during the summer of '82 when I was an electrician with Lake George Opera. We opened with Cenerentola, and Tim as Dandini. Needless to say, his bel canto training shone through! He's an incredible actor, and it was difficult for him *not* to steal the stage. At the end of the season, he *did* steal the stage, playing the title role in Gianni Schicchi. We literally had sore ribs after several performances!! We laughed so hard we cried!! The very next year, LGO brought Man of La Mancha into my home theater, and I worked with him again. You have awakened many fond memories!!
OMFG!!!!! What an unbelievable voice! My mouth dropped when hit the B4!!
Yeah, he could do that to you!!
There’s some wobble to his voice here. Not good.
Emily Greene if I’m not mistaken, I heard he was ill during this performance, so that must be why. His voice usually sounds more powerful and clean with a beautiful vibrato. Maybe that’s why. given he is a bass-baritone, hitting a high b is incredible. He sounds better then most of the over hyped modern tenors today. One of the greatest phantoms in my opinion
He has a such a different personality in every role he plays. I mean I didn't believe that his Judge Turpin and Sweeney were done by the same person even though the voice was a giveaway.
Is Timothy really a bass-baritone? Because it is unreal for a bass-baritone to hit a B4. His POTO farewell song voice sounds very tenorish. I think he is a singer who can sing in all voice types(yes, I believe he can do the high tenor roles if he worked at it) . This is random, but I really want him to play the Phantom in Love Never Dies with Sierra(which is technically impossible by this point) . I think he would make a good Piangi, Andre, Raoul(if he was younger) and basically all the male roles in POTO. I know it sounds like I have a crush on him, which I do😍
Michael's high notes are sooo powerful.
jian cui agreed! You can’t beat the original!
What are your thoughts on the 25th anniversary? Just curious since so many people gush in a very unnatural way with that performance.
jian cui Michael Crawford should have played the Phantom, and Ramin as Raoul. I hate the new rock orchestration of the title song. It’s just not the same
Oh my goodness. FINALLY someone likes Ramin as Raoul. Ramin, imo has a powerful voice however he doesn't suit the phantom at all but he is PERFECT for Raoul. And yes, MC should have played the Phantom although he might not be vocally capable for it since he didn't sing in the end at all.😭😭
@@phantomphan873 Michael Crawford would've been a disaster. He can't sing that role any more
Do you happen to have Michael's very last performance? Some say that it doesn't exist.
jian cui oh, you mean his performance in LA from 1991? I’m sure it’s out there somewhere. Will be looking for it
Patti Cohenour is the Christine in this performance right?
I know this is personal, but he is incredibly attractive physically and I want to point that out since no other phangirl has yet.😍
Brook Eggleston wow, I never he had scoliosis. How do you know?!
Congrats! I'm so gIad that this video hit 1k views although it's not my video.
😍
jian cui feel free to share this video link to others! Timothy is so underrated

Is this un-miked, because if it is... 😮
No mic!!!! And remember he’s a Bass-Baritone, and he hit a HIGH B!!!!!!!! This is the Phantom!!!!!
