- (Chicago, 1979) Timothy Nolen performing the famous tenor aria "Di Quella Pira" from Verdi's Il Travatore, live at the Civic Opera House 50th Aniversary Concert. Another timeless audio of Timothy's versatile range as a Bass-Baritone.
Oh my god. Please give me more of those operas. Phantom/Sweeney Todd/ whistle down the wind are not enough!
OMFG!!!!! What an unbelievable voice! My mouth dropped when hit the B4!!
Yeah, he could do that to you!!
Versatile isn't the word for it! I don't know if there *is* a word for it! Bravo, Tim!!
Happy you enjoyed it! Not often you hear a Bass-Baritone hit a B4. He sounds better than most modern day tenors in my opinion
@@phantomphan873 I was fortunate to have worked with Tim during the summer of '82 when I was an electrician with Lake George Opera. We opened with Cenerentola, and Tim as Dandini. Needless to say, his bel canto training shone through! He's an incredible actor, and it was difficult for him *not* to steal the stage. At the end of the season, he *did* steal the stage, playing the title role in Gianni Schicchi. We literally had sore ribs after several performances!! We laughed so hard we cried!! The very next year, LGO brought Man of La Mancha into my home theater, and I worked with him again. You have awakened many fond memories!!
@@phantomphan873 He sang parts like Barber Figaro, Marullo, Schaunard, Gianni Schicchi and Dr. Malatesta. Those are standard repertoire of a baritone. Ramon Vinay was also a baritone with an extended range, able to sing both tenor and bass roles. He sang both Otello and Iago, Don Jose and Escamillio. Very impressive and Nolen reminds me of him in that regard
So much squillo!
Yo I know this guy from the original run of the Broadway show Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd 😻😻
@@oliverdelica2289 He actually wasn’t in the original run. He replaced the original for a short duration before he sustained vocal technique trouble. All the same impressive.
His technique could be healthier, but all the same impressive - wow!
Are you a Timothy Nolen hater or something??? 😮
@@rhaczilla5141I’m actually a fan but I don’t turn a blind eye to problems with my favorites. A true fan can objectively point out problems with performances and hope they correct them. :)
I'm sorry but can you confirm this is really him? Where did this recording come from? The Lyric didn't have a 50th in 1979, it was their 25th, and Timothy Nolen was not on the program.
Hold the phone. Is he an actual opera singer?
Yep! He had a really amazing career. Performed in the Met, the SF Opera, Chicago Opera, and in Europe!
@@phantomphan873 wow
@@scotthamp384 and he did phantom, which I think was his finest. I would’ve gave anything to see him live.
@@phantomphan873 I know he was. He was the second principal Phantom on Broadway and the first baritone. However, he only did six months of his 2-year contract
