Gene and Roger discuss the surprising inclusions and omissions among the 65th Annual Academy Awards nominations in February 1993. By this point they were no longer devoting entire shows to post-hoc complaining and kvetching, as they instead had full length special shows titled "Memo To The Academy".

Siskel & Ebert - Oscar Nomination Surprises (1991)
Interesting that Siskel didn't put Before Sunrise on his list, given that it got a rare four-star review from him.
David Milch is clearly a creative genius, and on many other levels as well.
Crash is awful
I hated Crumb
George Miller should make Babe: Fury Road
Deuce Bigelow is not that bad. It's supposed to be silly.
Most comedies are. That isn't an indication of quality.
If its found in America the native American Indians claiming it has to be native American Indian, even when its white skinned
I find it funny if ancient white get found native Americans step and sue the government to claim their native American Indians
I think this video is outdated because the spineless Corp gave the remains to tribes to bury a few years ago.
Tribes are all about money and ignorance.
This is 20 years old
Is that Frankie Faison (The Wire) at 9:16, as the dad in the Crest ad ? And "Bosley" (David Doyle) from "Charlie's Angels" (the tv series) in the Chloraseptic ad after that...
Womens sport in the 2020's...
Biggest thing that sticks out to me when watching behind the scenes stuff like this (especially when it involves something as pretty much perfect and awesome as Deadwood) is how the main creative’s mind and direction works in almost the exact opposite way as my former teachers’…everything I see and hear David M doing and saying as he’s giving direction to the cast, is something the idiot, unemployed (apart from their cushy tenured position) professors I’ve had would have called “bad direction”.
1. Welcome to the Dollhouse 2. Ace Ventura 3. City of Lost Children 4. Babe 5. Clueless 6. Mallrats 7. Toy Story 8. Rumble in the Bronx 9. The Usual Suspects 10. Seven 11. Billy Madison 12. Leaving Las Vegas 13. A Close Shave 14. Demon Knight 15. Memories
1994 was a great year for movies. Pulp Fiction, Fresh, and Forrest Gump are 3 of my all time favorites.
My top two picks for worst movies of 05 are Corpse Bride and A Sound of Thunder. Both those ones were painful to sit through.
Ebert was WRONG for not giving Kurosawa Best Director for RAN. 23:16. Prizzi's Honor was a good not great movie that's been forgotten. Ran is still remembered.
Anyone can potentially remember any movie, the broader problem is that most people are mooks and yahoos who treat movies as a utility. Ebert erred because "Prizzi's Honor" flat blows, close to Huston's career-worst.
1. Freaked 2. Sonatine 3. Ninja Scroll
“Ok, you’re relatively heartless,” Roger tells Gene regarding “E.T.” Funny. Listening to this made me realize and reminded me of just how good James Mason was in “The Verdict.” He deserved to be nominated for his supporting role.
Interesting they both had One False Move near the top but its a film most people today haven't even heard of
That's why they provided a valuable service to movie lovers!
A little surprising to see Siskel pick Jack Nicholson, as he was rather critical of him on first reviewing Prizzi's Honor. Also surprising not to see him pick Out of Africa (for Best Picture) as the worst nomination; usually a negatively-reviewed Best Picture nominee was a shoo-in for that 'category.'
8 Mile and Frida are both great films that year that weren't mentioned.
Loved seeing the old commercials.
I re-watched kingpin as a 42 year old ( i hadnt seen it since i was 15) its so much more funny as an adult
Jenny Mccarthy was the inspiration f9r amy Schumer ' s " comedy "
I still want to know who wrote the Siskel and Ebert theme song.
In a very good year for films, Fargo is also my favorite. You betcha.
I really miss these guys. Back before everybody and their grandma became a movie critic.
1st thing ill ask at this show Why the hell Al pacino wasnt nominated for Scarface?
It wasn't a well-received movie at the time. The Tomato-meter, if it had existed in 1983, probably would have been around 40%. Ebert's original 4 star review was an outlier, Siskel's dismissal was the normative view. Cultural reappraisal began in the 1990s.
Even cowgirls get the blues is the worst film I've seen from 1993. It's horrible....
Released theatrically in May 1994, it made one of their Worst Of lists the following year.
Boy oh boy, do I miss these guys. I guess watching their reruns on UA-cam is better than nothing. As a matter of fact I know it is.
Hollywood used to consistently make very good movies
It's bitter sweet watching these guys. I grew up watching Sneak Previews on PBS, then watching At The Movies. I miss them both. They were my movie gurus.
Listening to these two sickening liberals blather on about iNtEr rAciaL rElaTiOnShIPs and gushing over malcolm X 🥴👍🏻 (yes I know about eberts wife)
Miss this show! Nostalgic! I just look back and reminisce how blessed I was to watch this show on Sunday afternoons!
Gene and Roger both missed the boat when it came to their nominations for best song. “Power of Love” not only was a great pop rock song, its lyrics perfectly fit the mood and motivation of lead character Marty McFly in “Back to the Future.” The song “Say You Say Me,” on the other hand, not only is lame it sounds as if it was at least partially lifted from McCartney’s/Beatles’ “Let it Be.”
0:02 love the theme at the beginning!! Never gets old and it’s still stuck in my head to this day!
This show is fucking mint!
Siskel is superior
He’s a genius! One of the greatest shows ever written!
This was great!!!👍
And The Last Emperor was of course the best movie of 1987
Wow, it's such a treat to see glimpses of how Milch was on set. You can tell this was a passion project for him. He had a vision and was doing everything he can to see it come to life. Beautiful.
I'm glad crash won
Me too. I don’t understand the hate towards it
How is Ray not anywhere on either critic's list? That movie was a Best Picture contender.
Ebert gave it 4 stars, so it was a runner-up. Films admired by cloistered rich people in El Lay are not entitled to appear on critic lists, good as they may be.
Signs, aliens invade Earth and guess what happens? Absolutly nothing. What little does happen takes place it total darkness so you can't actually see it. Mel Gibsons faith is restored though.
I’m assuming this is early 1998 and they’re reviewing 1997 movies for the 98 Oscars? Before his brain tumor diagnosis?
Correct, he was diagnosed in May, but there's a fair chance he was already experiencing some symptoms. Roger began to notice in early '98 that Gene was slower and occasionally disoriented.
Munich should NOT had been on any top list. A horrible freak show of xionist propaganda 👎
Why spend an episode focusing on what is so bad?
That's a fair question. I really don't understand why it is worth wasting brain space *ranking* the worst movies. In Siskel's time, they considered this annual special their own a public service announcement, and took pleasure in giving "one last shot" to movies that robbed precious time from their lives.
