Squier Telecaster - New Pickguard and Strings (sort of review?)

Fitting a new pick guard to a brand new Squier Telecaster and doing some finishing work that was skipped in the factory. These guitars have decent components but are built in a hurry and are thrown out the door as soon as they're vaguely playable - with a bit of attention they can be turned into fantastic budget instruments. All Along the Watchtower Cover - Biscuit Tin & Loop Pedal
Wow, Thanks for sharing your time and efforts. I'm surprised that Supro did not continue production of these modern retro guitars. They are undiscovered gems, and have something unique and magical about them. They are also holding their values well as a collectable guitar to have.
Clever remedy for the pickup switches. Cobain's guitar tech just lopped them off.
Nice interesting and informative video. 💫
I had one of these, i think it had the covers on the pickups. I gave to a guy to setup. And it came back worse than when i brought it. The action was so high it was unplayable. Like trying to play on coiled springs. From about the 10th fret it was about 8mm and got worse the higher it went. Was like 12mm. Not even joking lol
Wow that sounds pretty bad!
I thought the title first said “snorting off my jagstang” 😂😂😂
Great video, just got one of these today, excited to mess around with it.
Awesome information here. My grandsons squire needs some help. After watching this video I think I can manage it now. Thank you
No worries glad it was some help, good luck with it!
I own one been having it for a couple years
It literally was my dream guitar since middle school and man I wasn't expecting to actually own one until I got married and she let me get it and I was blown away when I opened it...now I own 5 dimebag guitars and she bought my first one which is my shadow ML
Looks really good! I'm part way through attempting my first one. I've got some Reese's Miniatures tins I want to use for this. Just trying to figure out how the neck should be
Cheers! You could start by deciding where you want the bridge to be on the tin, then use a tape measure to give you an idea how long the neck would be with different scale lengths - then pick one in proportion with the body. This one is 600mm, about an inch shorter than a Les Paul. Good luck!
The guitar was made where? and what year model?
I don't know unfortunately, sorry.
I honestly wish I could play like you.
Well keep practicing it won't take long!
Love the Devo tune! Yeah, this is the sort of guitar they would play as well, many offsets in the early days.
Brilliant! Merry Christmas!
Cheers! Happy Christmas
Great !! Chuck would love it.
Thanks!
Nice.
Cheers dude hope you're having a good day
Cool cover Matt, Merry Christmas. 🎅

Wow.. Cool.. Awesome performance 🥂👍 Merry Christmas my friend🎄❄☃️🎅🎁🤶🥂🔔🎄❄
Thanks! Happy Christmas!
Kurt cut had Ernie Bailey to cut his switches so he doesn't hit one while playing. Ernie even used playing cards to shim the neck of the guitar
This video answered the exact question that I had. What is inside? Thanks mate.
Awesome! I tried to make the kind of video I was looking for when I was buying it.
This is really awesome, I love it!
Thanks Faith glad you enjoyed it!
LOl , thats certainly .. a way to kinda? play Walk 🤣 Great video BTW!
haha thanks!
Great little project!
Cheers Brad! I really appreciate you checking this out.
Awesome
The Kinks were the first of the heavies. when I was an apprentice engineer, we all had KINKS written on the back of our overalls. The boss wasn't happy.
The late great Brian Glover lives.
Brilliant, Good idea tracing the steps. I've done most of it on my bike.
Cheers, that would have been a nice ride coming down!
Back in the 60's when there was virtually no traffic, we'd descend in to Hay -on-Wye, flat out, our brakes didn't work very well especially if it was raining, steel rims were hopeless, but it was all we could afford at the time, in December 1968 the section where Tim is walking down the road, was covered in Snow, i had my arm in plaster, and we just blasted through the show drifts, great fun, but looking back it was quite dangerous.@@MinimGuitars
@@krakatoa1200 yeah, it does sound fun though!
NICE!!!😊😊😊
Cheers!
Brilliant 1my favourite films of all time
Cool!
I love the brief appearance of Batman.
Brilliant! Well done Matt and Tim 👍
Thanks! It was fun to do.
That's so good. I love it!!
Thanks man!
Cigar boxes ?
Admittedly I use "cigar box guitars" as a catch-all term for that type of guitar; I've used biscuit tins and licence plates - ironically no cigar boxes yet.
I just picked up this guitar yesterday used at a GC in Sacramento. I played it through a PRS MT-15, and a slant 2x12 Marshall, and it was pretty awesome! I was getting this controlled feedback that really pleases me. Unfortunately when I got it home (just the guitar), I found the single coil to be very noisy, and I have to keep the tone KNOB below 3 or it's too spiky. In Hindsight, I was getting a lot ( sound wise) from the amp/cab. With that said, the guitar neck is awesome, not quite a D shape but not a C either, somewhere in between. Maybe call it a soft D. It has a zero fret which I personally really like. The body shape is cool, and I go for the headstock shape in a big way. It's a pet peeve, but I don't like pointy ends on guitars like PRS/BC rich etc. I wish The tune-0-matic was plug, and play, but I don't have the skill set to upgrade (yet). I think I will return it next week, I will definitely miss the neck from this guitar, but that's not enough to keep it. Guitar cost $400.00, I had to get a soft case $70.00, so out the door it was $500.00. I'm not interested in putting another $3-500 for upgrades,(pickup/ volume, tone pots/tuning pegs/ bridge to make this a guitar I would love. IMO, I would recommend this guitar for low -fi enthusiasts, rock-a-billy, and blues players.
Yeah those are some good points; for me I think it was a good choice to use this as my C-standard guitar.
Sounds great!
Great build!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
liked your vid at the end
Cool thanks!
Well done, it came out well!!
Thanks man!
Very cool! Well done!
Thanks very much! I was surprised how well it turned out.
@@MinimGuitars I have made several biscuits tin instruments and really like how they turned out as well.
@@stevesstrings5243 Me too - this is my first using a full size guitar neck though.
Looking forward to part 3.
It's finally here! ua-cam.com/video/W4HGl4qp5V8/v-deo.html
you have no idea how thankful I am right now, I got the same issue with my squire.. Hope this is gonna help fix my problem too
Oh cool good luck!
Nice one Matt 👍
Sweet
Can these still be purchased for a reasonable price?
I'm not sure to be honest - this is the only one I've ever seen. There's one on Reverb for about 400 quid but it's in Italy - I'm not sure where else you could look for one!
I saw a few better ideas on attaching the neck to the tin body through your video. Thanks for the video. Your trial-and-error project gave me some better ideas.
Ah cool, glad to hear it!
What do you use to clean the fretboard?
I have the fretboard cleaner spray from Crimson Guitars which came together with their fretboard oil. If they're really dirty I will get the worst off with lighter fluid (just so as to not waste the spray!) tinyurl.com/mubuzuup
@@MinimGuitars thanks so much for the reply! And this video helped me a lot with my razorback!
@@mikebunzey3146 no worries, hope you get it sorted out!
Sounds way out of tune and sloppy I like my. Fender nashville telecaster and all my other favorite guitars I own
Thanks so much!! I´ve been wondering whats inside, but I don´t want to mess it up. I really like this guitar. Want to try a nice humbucker. Does not look like the pickups is accsessible from underneath the top. Is it? What u think?
No worries, yeah I was curious too! I can't quite figure out how you'd remove the pickup, I didn't think to investigate while I had it open, foolishly. I think you would need to take it apart to access the solder though.
@@MinimGuitars Thanks for replying! We´ll see what happens in time:)
Aww.. The mess up on the headstock with the jigsaw. I feel for you. II would have been tearing my hair out with that. It came up well in the end though. Milliput is great!
Yeah it was pretty annoying!
Cool video. Glad that you got there eventually.
Thanks! I had so much footage I didn't know what to do with it.
Hi, I've just bought the very same guitar and it needed/needs some attention to the action as well, can you tell me the allen key size for the truss rod please. Mine has hardly been played and it's been looked after quite well. I think for a budget guitar it's not bad at all. Do you know where these were made and model etc?
Unfortunately the original nut was so mangled I couldn't tell what size it should have been; but the one I replaced it was was 5mm I believe. I have a feeling this one was from 2007 but can't remember exactly where it was made - they're made in a few places; Korea, China, Indonesia etc. See if you can find yours on here: authorityguitar.com/squier-serial-number-lookup/
@@MinimGuitars Thank you
