I just finished watching an episode of The Waltons on Freevee (Season 8, where Mary Ellen takes over Nora the Nurses job on horseback) and thought I’d come over to UA-cam to see if there was a new Judy Norton video. Yes! Thank you Judy and David! 😊🎉🎉
@@judynorton2598 It was also a show that my next two older brothers (2.5 and 5 years older) didn't mind watching with me, because Hal and Butch were always up to something. So, no fighting over the TV.
Judy it is so kind of you , and a blessing to share these awesome people , like David with Walton fans! There doesn't seem to be any shows in the 2020s except the new All Creatures Great , and Small that the cast is so close knit too, and a well done show!! Keep up the great work Judy , it is so much appreciated! Take care!!
Hello Judy. What a pleasant surprise. It is such a joy being able to catch up on the lives of so many characters from the Waltons. I appreciate the show more now that I am older. Keep up the great work!🎉❤
I'm so glad that they never killed off a Walton family member as such albeit it was very sad to see others getting killed or dying. David is a special soul and this video held my attention throughout just like parts 1 and 2. Thank you Judy for a great bonus segment today and best wishes as always come your way from your waltonian superfan in a dull, overcast and damp England😉.
Thank you Judy for the wonderful discussion with David Doremus. He seems to be such a thoughtful and introspective guy. The fact that he mentioned the continued tradition of "Good night " from The Waltons with his own family was sweet because i agree that is something in our hearts. Interesting to hear about his experience too on Nanny and the Professor, that was a great show. I always felt that GW and Erin would have made a good couple ❤
This was wonderful. I did watch Nanny and the Professor when I was a kid. But, it's been so many years since I've seen it. Thank you David. This has been fun.
Ms. Norton, once again thank you for teaming up with Mr. Doremus for your 3-parter about his career and how he went about things as a young actor. Really appreciated his insights about his time on "Nanny and the Professor" in Part 3. Sorry about pestering you about bringing Mr. Doremus on, but I really wanted to hear from him, so this was wonderful for me and many of your channel's devoted fans.
Judy, I so loved you talking with David. I was glued to every word. What a great guy and I remember him on both the Waltons and Nanny and the Professor. I hope you have more talks here with him. My favorite one you've done so far.. Judy and David you both are awesome and thank you.
The scene where John reads the letter to Erin from GW after he has passed away, I cry , Hard , every time. Nice to hear David's stories from Nanny and the Professor show. Thanks for the interview.
David is SO right--you all DID make your characters "come to life" for your audience--and maybe for each other. David is so down-to-earth and comfortable in his own skin. He doesn't have to put on airs or over-act; he is real, believable, charming and witty. I could see David having a good friendship with David Harper, who is also quite grounded, yet creative and insightful. Thanks, Judy for making his visit into three enjoyable segments. Another triumph!
It was sad that GW was killed off, it was so easy for the show to do it given what was going in the world doing that era. And David, another person who got to work with and meet some Iconic impressive people Mr. George Burns. How great is that. Great segment once again Judy. 🙂
GW (David) is so Cool and down to earth I'd love to hang out with GW and Maryellen and the whole cast from the Waltons kids they feel like family to me . I grew up with all of you from the age of 11 in 72 I so look forward to your next episode Judy thank you so much for these memories thanks again. ♡♡♡
David mentions his agent Mary Grady. She was a well-regarded agent for child actors for many years, and she just passed away a year or two ago. Mary Grady was also the mother of Don Grady (Robbie on My Three Sons) and Lani O’Grady (Mary on Eight is Enough).
Thank you Judy and David!! I thought the death of GW was unnecessary and added nothing to the show. It seemed like Elizabeth got the storyline that Erin should have had with GW.
The producers wanted the war to impact the family and community - feeling it reflected the losses families went through during the war. They felt losing a Walton would be too much, so this was someone close that would really impact. I understand it was a tough blow for viewers as well.
@@judynorton2598 It was a hard story to watch and your heart broke for Erin so I guess they accomplished their goal. I just saw that episode last week so your conversation was perfect timing.
Great seeing him, again . I wish he had commented on his best scene ans episode When Erin went to visit him at camp . Such a powerful scene when he went back to the Barracks and guys started questioning him , David was such a natural for the role
Hello Judy and David! I have more than enjoyed my time with you both! It's been wonderful! I used to love watching Nanny and the Professor. Thank you for sharing your memories! I had forgotten about Trent till you brought it up so sad I know that was difficult for you all. It's funny that you bring up the goodnight and how it has impacted your family. I think it has many families more than they realize. My kids don't live with me anymore, but we text each other goodnight every night before going to bed. I would say that is because of the Waltons. Thank you both so MUCH again!! 🥰
This has been so interesting and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing this conversation. Please keep us updated on David. He seems to be the good man we would think he would be.
When I think about David Doremus I first think about him playing Hal Everett on Nanny and the Professor. Him, Juliet Mills and Kim Richards, became quite well known from that show
This was a joy to watch. What a great guy. I'm a very longtime fan of David's and his stories and perspectives are extremely interesting and enjoyable to hear. Thanks so much, Judy and David! (Aren't we lucky to get to be part of these wonderful memories in the present time?!)
Mr. Doremus was quite philosophical re having learned of G.W.'s death in advance and how he conducted himself as a performer with the rest of the cast- to say nothing of how he was surprised how upset it made the fans. Interesting, too, that his having been raised by a military father to focus on ontask conversations rather than to get distracted by offtask toys opened the door to the agent Mary Grady taking him on as a client when he was a young child. BTW, it needs to be noted that Mrs. Grady was the mother of the performers Don Grady (who played the hot-tempered,intense Robbie on 'My Three Sons' before becoming a renowned musical composer including the 'Donahue' theme) and the tragic Lani O'Grady (who played the eldest daughter Mary on 'Eight is Enough'). .and their actual surname was Agrati. Yes, it was sad that he wasn't able to get together with his troubled onetime 'Nanny and the Professor' costar before the latter's suicide but I hope he realizes that them at least talking a last time may have been a bright spot in the last part of that man's life. On a happier note, great that he's resumed his friendship with Mr. Harper in recent years. Also, fantastic that he took the whole "Goodnight, John-Boy!" with him to use re his own RL family to the present day to bond! BTW, I DID see Part Two but didn't comment on it in time. However, I thought it was a bit much that they had G.W.'s horse behind a barbed wire fence which, regardless of young Mr. Doremus's whether jaunty athletic leap over it had been successful, could have easily risked the human and equine performers getting sliced- as opposed to a more conventional [and attractive] wooden fence. Anyway, thanks so much for this!
Thank you for sharing that extra behind the scenes info about the Hollywood connections of the “Gradys”. The barbed wire does raise some safety questions. Glad you enjoyed our chats.

@@judynorton2598 that's so wonderful I really loved this character on the Show. Its nice knowing he can always come to you for advice. That's so Special. 💗
I remember Richard Long being in Nanny & The Professor. I believe that was his last show he was in. I knew he played the oldest Barkley son in The Big Valley. I had a feeling it was rough on David Doremus when Richard Long passed away. Prayers everyone remains well
Richard Long was in a short-lived ABC Show that only lasted a few episodes, after Nanny and the Professor ended. He was cast alongside Julie Harris as older people in a relationship. I don’t remember the series name but thought it could have been successful
I really enjoyed the interview with David. He is so interesting and down to earth. I certainly remember him as a child watching Nanny and the Professor so I was happy to also hear his experience there. And of course, I loved him as GW.
I had the joy of meeting David in 2017, along with many other Waltons' cast members (some for the second time). Like all of you, David is a genuinely lovely person. Thank you, Judy, for this 3-parter. I really enjoyed it! And I do wish Erin had married GW! The episode in which GW is killed still makes me cry. ❤
I agree, I was also saddened by the way G.W. passed away, yet glad he didn't take another life. I hoped that G. W. & Erin would end up together & living on the land that his Daddy gave him.
Judy thank you for having David on your show. I always loved him as GW on the Walton's. He was wonderful in the field with Mary Mcdonough as he told her about the army. They were such a cute couple.❤
I loved Nanny and the Professor when I was little, and of course I love The Waltons, but I never realized that the older boy on Nanny a few years later was GW on The Waltons! What a happy surprise! I cannot watch The First Casualty episode because, knowing GW gets killed, I bawl from start to finish. Thanks to David Doremus for the marvelous interview!
Such a great interview...why didn't you ask him about his life after he left show business? Maybe, another interview is in the future, with him? Hopefully.
Good day Judy, Judy for prez 2024... Why? Because she delivers. You delivered another great ( unexpected ) episode with DD. It was interesting to hear him talk about GW being killed off. Actors are killed off for different reasons. Like asking for a raise or wanting to be released from their contract. Next thing you know that actor was written off as having died in a car accident or had a fatal fall off a cliff or something. D. Harper is just a good friend that stays in contact with DD and Hal Williams and others. D.H. is just someone you want in your life. DD is a fun guy that brings a smile to your face. Well done 3 part series. Have a question for you. What season would you call your favorite season of the Waltons? Thanks Judy.
Thank you for your kind comments. I recall years ago people said “if John Walton ran for President he would win”. I could understand that as the character was someone with integrity who you trusted. Favorite season is a tough one. First 5 seasons are my favorite - but within that. hard to say. Season 5 was full of great episodes, but I love when we were all still children in the first season.
I’m catching up on the last couple of weeks as I’ve been away, but it was nice watching Pts 2 & 3 of your interview with David Doremus. Thank you for bringing him on. It was interesting to hear how he found out his character of G.W. was going to be the ‘First Casualty.’ Keep up with the good videos! I thoroughly enjoy watching them.
Thankyou Judy for getting more actors and actresses on your Ask Judy show. Hoping you'll get Jonathan Flakes (Ashley Longworth Jr.) soon to share some of his stories on the Waltons.
I'm so glad you spent time discussing "Nanny and the Professor." I was born in '62, and I remember watching the show as a little kid and then catching an occasional rerun in syndication. Also, David mentioned the ventriloquist "Winchell Mahoney." Actually, he was referring to Paul Winchell, whose dummy was Jerry Mahoney. Winchell also was the voice of Tigger and many other cartoon characters. And then David said he wasn't very good with names, so I had to laugh at the timing of that remark.
Paul Winchell showed he could play a variety of roles. He played, on Nanny and the Professor, the mean neighbor who the kids tormented (Hal and Butch were in trouble for trying to pull a prank on him), but who hid a lonely life, doing a puppet show in the end, surprising everyone, especially Prudence
Loved Dave’s character as GW. Sad when he didn’t return. His role and acting was a nice touch to the Waltons. Also it was so nice to experience how the Waltons always accepted the various characters as family.
Love how David shares but does not seem like bragging." Good night ginger bread goat" (season 6:11 The Flight). So true about Waltons traditions! I see a future show called Waltons Generations. We need a family show with depth on prime time and not another superficial cop crime show or sitcom. Thank you David for the explanation about why GW was killed. It made sense but the grenade throw delay seemed out of character. They should have said you were saving another soldier from a runaway vehicle. Come back and tell us what you did after show business and why you left. Thank you, Judy !!
Wow, great interview with David!! He’s a great guy, just like G.W. Very real and likable. Interesting that he wanted to date Kathy Hilton, Paris Hiltons mom, lol. Very sad that his costar on “Nanny and the Professor “ died at 20 from suicide. Heartbreaking. And the Dad died at 47 from a Heart Attack, very sad. Glad David is still with us, he’s a special person ❤️
I would like to ask David : Nanny and The Professor was canceled rather suddenly, were there any episodes written or filmed in production that were scrapped. ?
I know you don't have contacts with everyone, I would love to see you chat with Cissy Wellman. I always liked the few times when sissy and Yancy were on!

GW was one of my favorites............I might have boycotted the show for a few episodes in protest back then. I do remember being upset by his absence. I remember thinking, "Oh, no...........not GW!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Judy, and David! I don’t remember having seen The First Casualty when it first aired (I was in my late teens). But I vividly recall seeing it about 10 years ago after I had bought the entire series on DVD. When G.W. was killed, I remember exclaiming “What the ___ !” (insert the appropriate expletive). I still express a similar sentiment each time I run that episode. Now if I could only find “Nanny and the Professor” on DVD!
As an extra comment,I just wanted to add that I thought it was so sweet to hear that David Doremus and David Harper are good friends. They appear both so intelligent in a laid back, humble kind of way. And as you said, the Waltons family members stick together. All of you are special in unique ways!

Glad you enjoyed our catch up chats.
So glad you had a chance to meet David. He is a sweetie.
I think the episode when G W died was one of the saddest
I agree, I was also saddened by the way G.W. passed away, yet glad he didn't take another life. I hoped that G. W. & Erin would end up together & living on the land that his Daddy gave him.
It was sad for all of us to lose GW.
Judy thank you for having David on your show. I always loved him as GW on the Walton's. He was wonderful in the field with Mary Mcdonough as he told her about the army. They were such a cute couple.❤
We all loved GW and having the character on the show. Great to work with David and so glad to have him as a guest.
Enjoyed all three of these so much!!!♥
So glad. Thank you.

What a lovely person David is.
Glad you were able to make this connection now. :)
Such a great interview...why didn't you ask him about his life after he left show business? Maybe, another interview is in the future, with him? Hopefully.
Yes. I always thought his show business career had legs, but that's Hollywood...
He married a lovely woman and raised children after leaving acting.
Great interview another great part to this yall
Our pleasure. Thanks for joining us.
Thanks happy to be joining yall
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m catching up on the last couple of weeks as I’ve been away, but it was nice watching Pts 2 & 3 of your interview with David Doremus. Thank you for bringing him on. It was interesting to hear how he found out his character of G.W. was going to be the ‘First Casualty.’
Keep up with the good videos! I thoroughly enjoy watching them.
So glad you enjoyed our chats.
Great interview
Our pleasure.
Great episode Judy.
Great interview with David.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thankyou Judy for getting more actors and actresses on your Ask Judy show. Hoping you'll get Jonathan Flakes (Ashley Longworth Jr.) soon to share some of his stories on the Waltons.
Glad you enjoyed this.
❤😊
I'm so glad you spent time discussing "Nanny and the Professor." I was born in '62, and I remember watching the show as a little kid and then catching an occasional rerun in syndication. Also, David mentioned the ventriloquist "Winchell Mahoney." Actually, he was referring to Paul Winchell, whose dummy was Jerry Mahoney. Winchell also was the voice of Tigger and many other cartoon characters. And then David said he wasn't very good with names, so I had to laugh at the timing of that remark.
Many parts of our childhood, for sure. Sounds like we all grew up in the same time more or less.
Thank you. We all missed GW.
Glad you enjoyed this. Hope to have him back again in the future.
I wasn't able to watch the "Nanny And The Professor" I guess our 3 channels didn't aired it. It sounds like it was a sweet show. 🤠
It really was a sweet show. Not sure if any episodes are on UA-cam.
@@judynorton2598 I was able to watch one full episode! It was cute!

David (GW) is a class act. I enjoyed you two visiting
He really is… thanks for joining us.
I loved Nanny and the Professor
👏
Wow, great interview with David!! He’s a great guy, just like G.W. Very real and likable. Interesting that he wanted to date Kathy Hilton, Paris Hiltons mom, lol. Very sad that his costar on “Nanny and the Professor “ died at 20 from suicide. Heartbreaking. And the Dad died at 47 from a Heart Attack, very sad. Glad David is still with us, he’s a special person ❤️
It was great learning more about David’s life and career.
Buzzr aired another one of Judy's appearance on Password Plus this time against Bert Convy (Tattletales & Super Password) and hosted by Tom Kennedy.
What fun! My dad actually called me yesterday to say he had caught me on Password Plus :)
@@judynorton2598 Smiles to you too
I would like to ask David : Nanny and The Professor was canceled rather suddenly, were there any episodes written or filmed in production that were scrapped. ?
If he sees these comments, I imagine he will answer.
🎉
I know you don't have contacts with everyone, I would love to see you chat with Cissy Wellman. I always liked the few times when sissy and Yancy were on!
I did have a chance to chat a bit with Cissy - here are those links:

GW was one of my favorites............I might have boycotted the show for a few episodes in protest back then. I do remember being upset by his absence. I remember thinking, "Oh, no...........not GW!!!!!!!!
I understand it was a sad surprise and loss for all of us.
I understand. It was a heartbreaking loss. Good news is being able to have him alive and well as a guest here. 🥰
