    So refreshing to walk down memory lane with you.

    This was really refreshing to join you on your walk down memory lane. You were able to do so many things and the best part of it is that you came out of all that with a very good head on your shoulders. There were several child actors I heard of who were not as blessed as you were. So glad you are around as the older Mary Ellen whose name is Judy. Your mom sounds like she was a real caring person. I cannot help but think that the whole wholesomeness of The Walton’s might have played at least a small part in keeping you sane and rightly oriented. Thanks, Judy.

    I really liked Richard Thomas as John Boy and i also liked his replacement
    Robert Wightman but I'm sure it was difficult for Robert to step in to the
    iconic character John Boy but I really think he did a good job though in
    the role until the series went off the air, have a great week and Thank You.

      Tonight I just started the first two episodes where the John-Boy switch happens and teared up.
      Not sure if it was because of the actor change or the fact that the character was injured and non-verbal.
      Probably a bit of both.

    Those are great photos of you riding and jumping horses! Where are your prom photos? Of course we want to see the dress you sewed! 😊Sir Lancelot no less! Fun! Isn't it true how the first live theater production you see stays with you all your life? Our Girl Scout troop went to a dress rehearsal of a local college theater: Finian's Rainbow. Of course, I was obsessed after that. I wanted to sing lead parts. Unfortunately, I'm a hopeless alto! Haha! There's nothing like live theater! Do you still roller skate? Those Roller Derbys look dangerous! Roller Skates seem to have a mind of their own whereas ice skates seem easier to control, at least to me. I'm not very good at either. Haha! It sounds like you had a lovely childhood and it's remarkable of The Walton's that you all seem genuinely appreciative of your life, your family, your opportunities etc and maybe that's partly why not only is the show loved, but you all as individuals are loved! I happened to catch on Pinterest a clip from To Tell the Truth game show of Earl and Richard!! It was so great! I tried to send the link, but a different show sent. Idk how to find the clip. Maybe someone here can! Both Earl and RT were adorable and elegant! Have a great week Judy and Walton's everywhere!❤

    Judy,I love your singing as well. This is a question: Did you ever want an opportunity to be able to sing in a scene of The Waltons? What is your preference,singing as a solo artist, or in combination with a character, such as in a musical, in a team along with other actors? I always have respect for artists in musicals,you have to deliver your lines well,as well as be good at singing,which also brings the character to life.

    Barry Livingston from "My Three Sons" has said they would get 12-15 scripts at a time that they had to learn because of Fred MacMurray's shooting schedule. Did you have to learn multiple scripts at time or did you basically work on a "week-to-week" schedule? I can't imagine having to work multiple episodes at a time.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  Місяць тому +1

      We had one at a time week to week - or every 6 ½ days. For My Three Sons, they would still only shoot so many pages in a day, so it would still be about learning maybe 8 - 10 pages of dialogue for a day of filming, then the same for the next day.

    I was raised in a large family of 13 on various farms in Southeastern Ohio and later in West Virginia. I was also raised in a very strict Christian family, where dancing was considered sinful. I was very bashful in high school and never had a girlfriend or even a girl friend until my adult life. Since my family moved from Ohio to West Virginia during my senior year, I was part of two high schools and two senior classes. I never went to a prom; junior or senior. I was just too bashful to even talk to a girl, let alone ask one to a prom. Since I didn't dance, I wouldn't have been comfortable there anyway. After graduating, I enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in California, where I met the first lady who even paid much attention to me. I was already 21 years old by that time. I ended up marrying her and bringing her back here to West Virginia. We have a son who is now a journalist and 42 years old. I wish I could have been a little more outgoing, but it wasn't to be.

    Judy; you were the ‘Wonder Woman ’ of your time! Besides being the prom girl you were jumping horses, you were a flyer on a trapeze (Tony Curtis played one in a movie with Burt Lancaster, did you ever meet either of them? ), tennis - is there any names you could drop here about that? A gamer against other show participants, softball - for some reason I immediately thought of ‘The Catcher In The Rye’, and of course your theatre live shows, that takes no small amount of courage to step out on a stage in front of an audience, and I like that one a lot as it was at one of them that I met you and you autographed my credit card slip. I doubt many of your fans can say that! Would be thrilled to meet you again now 😚 As always I love to see you in different uh… outfits? Costumes? Uniforms maybe? 😇

    Hi Judy, I’ve always wondered if the budgets for each episode was the same? It seems like some episodes were more expensive than others, particularly if filmed on location like at Frazier Park or if the studio needed to rent special props like a Ferris wheel. Thanks.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  Місяць тому

      My understanding is that the budget was the same for each episode, but if they didn’t spend it all on one show I imagine they could spend extra on another one. Ralph Senensky has said that he sometimes negotiated to shoot a day shorter to have the Frazier Park location so that was a trade off.

    Hi Judy. Thank you so much for your wonderful channel so that we can enjoy The Waltons ,as well as all the other fascinating information, behind the scenes, that you share with us,fans. This is a question from Tamara from The Netherlands.
    I can remember from my experience as an extra in this film that I did way back in the 80s,that there was an incredible amount of waiting time for the extras. Some people read books to pass the time and others talked to one another. So my question is,what do actors do to pass the waiting time? I guess off the set,actors read,converse and perhaps,now, also use their cell phones to google or text,tel,etc.? Or would this be considered too distracting,in case an actor could be called upon to film his/her part in the scene,or to be called upon, suddenly,to do a scene (or part of a scene) that the director has made a last minute change to?

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  Місяць тому

      I imagine it’s changed a bit over the decades, but reading a book, hanging out and chatting were still common. If I had heavy emotional scenes to do, I’d tend to sit on my own and focused more on the character and scene.

    I love how grounded all of you seem to be. We hear horror stories about some other child/teen TV stars about their unfortunate lives after the end of their shows whether it be drugs or criminal activity etc. But all of the Walton actors seem to have escaped all of that. I am sure you have all had problems to deal with but compared to some former child stars, you all seem pretty grounded. Why do you think that is? Good parenting? Good on set role models?

    I remember the picture you showed of you in your roller skates when you did that promotion. The film Shakespeare in Love shows what early theatre productions are like but they must still be similar to what you have done. If TV and film ever come to an end i think things will go back to those kind of productions. Never been to a theatre production. In tennis news...novak has hinted that he will retire soon. He's won everything and wants to spend time with his family. I would like to live in the beautiful Herefordshire Castle Eastnor...that kind of thing, majestic staircases, but I also like certain Palm Springs houses...very different from the Walton house...but I would need the Walton Mill to help build them....and tennis courts, and other things....

      Theatre does give an option to do various types of shows - not necessarily the big spectacles, but all of it has become so expensive to do that it’s a shame it limits things. A castle sounds lovely - but I wouldn’t want the heating bill! lol

    Hi Judy. How were night scenes filmed? Where any scenes actually filmed at night? I have noticed that in some scenes, it is only dark in certain areas where the actors are, and what looks like sunlight in other areas of the same frame. Thank you, Doreen

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  Місяць тому +1

      Some were shot at night like for The Burn Out - the night fire sequence was a Friday night so we could film late. Many times night scenes were shot later in the day, but not dark - these were “day for night” ie: shot in the day for a night scene.

    Maybe you answered this question before,but how did the filming crew deal with reflective props such as mirrors,cabinet doors, picture frame glass,or glossy car exteriors to name a few. On some programs I have watched I have seen camera reflections in mirrors, and china cabinets.I have even seen shadows of equipment on walls I haven't noticed anything like that on The Walton's,but I have on other tv shows and movies.I bet that can be a bit complicated, especially on scenes when someone is looking in a mirror.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  Місяць тому +1

      Sometimes they take the glass out of cabinet doors, or use a dulling spray. Sometimes they use “flags” on the lights to block light from hitting something and reflecting. If they can angle something to avoid the reflection they do that also.

    • @missmandie9729
      @missmandie9729 Місяць тому

      @@judynorton2598 I never heard of dulling spray,I will be looking that one up tonight! I never heard of the "flags" either,but I figured they must have some way of filtering light.
      I suppose it would be much easier to remove the glass in most cabinet or window props than trying to keep it from reflecting.There is a lot more that goes into filming than most people think!A lot of hard work!Thank you for answering my question!

    Hi Judy,Just love your channel with it's variation in topics,guest appearances,etc.
    These are two questions from Tamara from The Netherlands.
    Is there a limit as to how many takes a director can do to perfect a scene,and does it vary if it is on a television show,like The Waltons for example,or on a film? And the second part of my question is: do you remember of any instances when there were so many takes done,that the actors on the set,started to get silly or tired from the exhausting shooting? Either on The Waltons, or any other show you have done?
