The Micronesian Latter-Day Saints You Need To Know About - Devan Jensen
Devan Jensen is the executive editor and social media manager at the BYU Religious Studies Center. He and Rosalind Meno Ram are editors of Battlefields to Temple Grounds: Latter-day Saints in Micronesia and Guam.
I wanted to speak to Devan about the establishment of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Micronesia and Guam, considering its unique history during wartime and the geographical layout of so many different islands, I'm so intrigued to hear the stories of the pioneers there and the logistics of the Church in the area!
Some highlights from this episode include travelling to Stake Conference by boat, the best food in Micronesia, and the key figures in the early Micronesian church.

    I lived in Utah for 15 years. I think for the plot of the movie it's irrelevant what religion the missionaries are. The narrative could work with Jehovah's Witnesses just as easily. It's not the doctrine that matters to the plot of the movie, it's the interrogation of the concept of belief itself. Being LDS missionaries is a MacGuffin to get the girls through the door and into the house. The movie probably won't pick apart Mormon beliefs but will use Mormon belief/faith as a stand in for any religious faith, belief or conviction.

    The entire xtian belief system no matter the denomination is base 100% on; dishonesty, misinformation, speculation, assumptions, ignorance and wishful thinking. Zero facts. The bible in all it's various editions is 99.9% fictional. Other than geographic locations and 3 possibly 4 people, it's all fake. There's absolutely zero evidence for any religions imaginary friend.

    Were not the creeds used by the church of Rome to claim the right to excommunicate or even kill anyone that claimed to believe but did not support the church of Rome and their creeds? The "Apostle's creed" happens to only be an abomination just in how it was used-- not its content.

    The mormon god is not YHVH of the bible and does not believe in the essential definition of the trinity. They believe that the devil is equal to the mormon god and they have a god the mother as part of their pantheon. A rudimentary search of their doctrines by any self-aware Christian should alert them to the dangerous lies and beliefs of the Mormons. They are realizing to realign their beliefs closer to Christianity to not lose relevance.

    • @grantarnold

      I disagree with your statement “the devil is equal” to God - I’ve never heard that my entire time as a church member (now 40+ years). We believe that Jesus Christ was chosen from the beginning, but Lucifer rejected Christ and sought to usurp Christ’s position/authority - for that rebellion, he became the devil and was cast out. No one was equal to Christ. He was the only one who could come to earth, live perfectly, atone for our sins, and return resurrected to the Father.

    They get it from the Old Testament scripture of the TWO Powers in Heaven israelite theology which has the 2 persons of YHWH: the Invisible YHWH ( the Father) and the Visible YHWH ( the Pre-incarnate Jesus) . Your separate persons R NOT what the Trinity states as all three persons R the One God of the Same Essence. God is Spirit: only Jesus acquired a human body during his earthly ministry.

    Catholic organization. Pretty well presented. I'm glad that he acknowledged that Mormons of traditionally misunderstood Catholics on the Trinity in that you kind of believe something similar. The Catholic church has always said that they are three distinct persons. Mormons seem to have a difficult time understanding this concept. But it's good that you were explaining it to them the way the early church understood it. I do find it interesting that on the Mormon website it usually refers to God is three separate beings, but also says three separate persons and also three distinct persons. Separate and distinct are two different things in regard to the nature of the godhead.

    It is complicated but… We have not misunderstood their doctrine of the Trinity. I’ve discussed this many time with different Catholic (and Protestant) clergy. I’ve read Origen of Alexandria and the history and writings about the councils he mentions. I agree that early Christian thought the way he’s describing… and that contemporary Christian for the most, don’t understand the doctrines of their own churches so they don’t really believe the Trinity either. But talk to any Catholic Priest and they do believe the version of the Trinity that we understand them to believe. His description of how the word “being” is like saying human being or a type of divine person of race or something is not how they frame it or teach it. Of course there are many lines in these creeds that can be accurate taken one line at a time. However when take in totality they create a completely different definition of the Godhead that has misled humanity for millennia. Maybe the first version of the Nicaea Creed was the least incorrect (and Arianism wasn’t spot on for sure) but the Nicaea Creed over corrected and did just as much damage or maybe more damage. There is a reason that Joseph was told they are an abomination in the sight of God. This discussion feels like clickbait. 😂

    • @forallthesaintspod
      @forallthesaintspod 5 днів тому

      My understanding of Clickbait is enticing you to click on something that doesn’t answer the question it says it does - I’m not one for doing that and I don’t think this discussion qualifies for that! I think Jason’s study is valuable and informative.

    Such a sad story. It should be cautionary for each of us, because although David may have been eventually forgiven, he still could not enter exaltation: "Doctrine and Covenants 132:39 David’s wives and concubines were given unto him of me, by the hand of Nathan, my servant, and others of the prophets who had the keys of this power; and in none of these things did he sin against me save in the case of Uriah and his wife; and, therefore he hath fallen from his exaltation, and received his portion; and he shall not inherit them out of the world, for I gave them unto another, saith the Lord"

  • @yman6495

    I might argue that the original doctrine of the trinity is more of a compromise between multiple groups. Thus, though it may sound correct the reason why it changed (and that even many today have difficulty explaining it) is because the idea is supposed to allow for multiple interpretations. I do think later some modalist like or modalists pulled it more towards their beliefs.
