Back In The Woods
United States
Приєднався 9 тра 2018
We are starting this channel for a video record of our journey to move off grid and become more self sufficient. We are planning to add on to our log cabin with a timber frame structure with cordwood walls. There will be videos of many projects including a tractor shed, firewood sheds, building box blinds, planting food plots, hinge cutting, land management, firewood cutting, tractor work, installing solar power and many more.

What an awesome build using on-site resources.
Couldn't agree more. Single shot 12ga is my choice.
Yep your right ,besides long range,The 12 gauge ,can do it all from a chipmunk to slugs for any thing on the planet
You need 6 guns, ultimately. 1. A .22 rifle. 2. A .22 handgun. Preferably a revolver. 3. A 12 ga. pump shotgun with interchangeable chokes. 4. A high powered rifle for big game. My choice? A bolt action 30-06. Properly used, it will drop everything on the NA continent. 5. A heavy handgun. The choices here are endless. I have a colt Python. 6. An AR-15 in the current military round. This last is useful for hunting small to medium game, self defence, and rebellion if necessary.
How great are all these houses that the big bag wolf can't blow down?
Lime dude lime in your mix and use white keen cement with silica sand that's what I use
That's fascinating. I live in Texas…no real moisture like that. But I am wanting to put some juniper tree trunks on sonotube piles for the height I needed. For a brush arbor. Would be easier to do what you did…but wasn't sure it wouldn't move. Maybe the square design of yours contributes to stability? Mine will be a double rowed arch measuring about 25'. 10" - 14" trunk circumfrance..maybe 9' high. Would have cross pieces at top of arbor.
Dude! I had to stop watching when you tried to kill your wife! WTF!
@@SanctificationIsAJourney kill my wife. You’re an idiot go away.
Just curious…are you expecting those logs to sink enough to stabelize the whole thing in the ground? Or are you content to just have them sit on pads… 🤫
@@moki888 they are just sitting on the pads I think I did this video 3 or 4 years ago and it’s still like the day I did it
Would the log turner still work like that if your mill wasn't on a trailer?
@@bard44 yes it would
wool is a horrible outer layer. winds cut right through it but the best base/inner layers. Also for hunting wool is the best to keep odor down
Yeah, looks like Pat's is the way to go vs quick hitch. Good video.
what is the width of your blower? I just bought an N series tractor and I'm looking to buy a blower for it?
It is 5’
Big Boi!
I used an electric boat winch, made a bracket that just slips in the the side of my LT 15, no drilling or welding, works like a dream and fast, hooked the bat. cable to the engine bat.
Nice tractor! I just bought a new John Deere X580 with a 47” blower to help out my plow truck. We have a half mile driveway so hoping this will help out when the piles get too high for the plow.
@@wobdeehomestead using the blower is a good time I think you’ll like it a lot.👍
I got to say that is absolutally the worst gun you can have for any scenario. So bad its comic.
@@armageddon1403 I bet you have multiple pairs of 5-11 pants
@backinthewoods2022 I don't know what that is. But seriously don't you understand what's wrong with your gun?
@@armageddon1403 no That would be my pick to do everything. Not any one thing the best mind you. I know it’s not the greatest self protection weapon, I get it. It’s easily maintained and less to go wrong than anything with more moving parts and you can change the caliber to many different things with adaptors to take different game. That was the point of the video. If I went deer hunting tomorrow I would use my rifle and if I decided to grouse hunt I would grab my over under 20 and if Red Dawn 2 broke out I would get my AR. If someone said I can only have one of my guns and have to use it for my lifetime I would grab my single 12. You can do whatever you think is best for you.
Hard to watch listening to your 80% pointless babbling. Painful.
So how did this heater work out?
It works well It heats the entire house with one to two fires a day depending on the temperature outside The fires last about 4 or 5 hours
Nice! How much wood do you go through? Wish I would have installed one of those when I built my log cabin. We’re also off grid about 30 miles south of Superior Wi.
@@wobdeehomesteadoh we are 30 minutes north of Ladysmith Hard to say right now how much wood it will use because the house isn’t finished and last year was as you know a very easy winter. We still wont have the ceilings done for this winter so it will be awhile before we know for sure.
Ah ok, I’ll have to subscribe and checkout your channel.
This is the reason there are so many deer up north 😂
H&R used to have single shot long guns that you could buy 12 ga firearm and order a different barrel. Don't know if going from center fire shells to rimfire could be done. I would rather have either 12ga pump or semiauto for rapid follow up for self defense, which is number 1 priority, and single shot 22lr. Great video
Bigger buckets are good !
Here in the UK 99% of the shotguns sold are double barrelled. Single barrelled are quite a rare find. We also have pump action guns but they are restricted to three shots.
I'd have to agree with you on about 80% of your reasons. The single shot has no advantage over a high capacity pump for self-defense. All you could say is that it better than nothing. Ideally, a single barrel 3 1/2" mag with a polychoke and an array of chamber inserts gives you the most utility and versatility.
Bro can I hunt with you ? Beautiful scenery around you!
Congrats, thanks to the higher back of the seat, you are not able to use a spraydeck anymore… Prijon thought something above it, when they designed the backrest. Never had problems with plastics on my back. I‘m 1,76m tall. Still using the backrest in a steep angle and 5cm from the back of the coaming.
you guys do nice work!
Thanks appreciate it
22 single shot
did you require a permit
A building permit was required yes I did not however get one because I disagree with paying the $25 to build on the property I own and because no inspection is required I don’t know what I’m paying for.
@@backinthewoods2022 Thank you but did you require an elelctrical permit
@@CanadianCivilDefenceMuseumno not in my area. That changes everywhere you go though.
Can you tell me what brands are on the garments?
@@lucianovictorraulcarillome9032 King of the Mountain, Wool Power, Filson
A 12 gauge and a .22LR rifle, will cover a lot, also not a great fan of shotgun insert, is cool to be able to fire 9mm, .45ACP, .357 magnum, .44 magnum, etc., etc., (even .45-70 and so on), but the accuracy is not consistent.
Very nice results. You can see the care taken. Looks great.
When it's cold outside, nothing beats Aclima Doublewool.
I'm still attempting to comprehend 2×8's and 2×10's for a 6'×6' wooden crate .
Yeah I think your right looking back I would do 2x8 and 2x6 for a 6x6 maybe keep it the same for the 8x8 though
I am getting older and have accumulated way too many hunting clothes. So I am researching wool and I am going to get rid of many of my other clothing and build a good layering system and less clothes. Also that way I don't have as many to choose from! Thanks for the great reviews!
12 gauge is definitely the ONE. But in grizz country I’m going pump with at least 6rd capacity. My shorty benelli 12g will do 8#1 of 2-3/4 or 7+1 of 3in 6+1 of 3.5 magnum loads and it’s exactly 40inches long so quite compact. Full synthetic and will cycle absolutely anything 12g on any shelf in the world.
Got a H & R 12guage, M 48 made in 1949 Works great : my favorite gun
Thnx so much
Don't underestimate the 22 long rifle. The biggest deerI ever killed my life. I kill a little 22 long rifle shout out three times. It walked about 15 ft until over dead
Great work🤘
My only concern is the ammo size and weight. 22 is lighter than 12 and you can carry a Lot of them
I love my Phoenix. And the calmer portions of the river you are on is exactly what I love paddling on. I like a nice calm time on the water. And smaller rivers like that are ideal. I have not been able to get out much this year, but hope to get out this weekend on a similar river to the one you are on here. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
The nice thing about 12 for self defense is you shouldn't need to fire it to deter a bad guy!
Now, just shorten the gun about half
Can you explain more how exactly do you mix mortar what ingredients how much for every ingredient?
@@profi1917 I did a video on that its #166 I believe. It shows it step by step.
great idea. thanks for explaining. it's the little design features that make a place unique.
I have to laugh, I was watching your video and my wife was in the next room, when I was done she says “what were you watching ?” I explained to her about the place you and your wife are building and she says “ I heard him say something about too much wood”. Hahaha yep ! We live in a log house that we built 34 years ago and we have pine log walls, v-groove pine interior walls and a v-groove pine cathedral ceiling because I loathe Sheetrock. We did put some Sheetrock walls in the living area down in the basement and I did that stucco look you are talking about. I am not a Sheetrock guy and that stucco hides all of my bad joints etc. Just felt like I wanted to relay that. Keep up the good work !
Haha we will have a lot of wood on the interior walls as well, mostly because we can mill it and install it ourselves. Sheetrock I would have to pay for and have someone install mud and tape if I want it to look good. We will be painting the wood white for the interior though. Hopefully it all turns out.
Always interesting to see how you do things on this unique building process. Thanks Kirk.
A single shot anything is a terrible survival firearm. One shot is not a solution to multiple assailants. it also requires a high level of accuracy.
A 3030l lever action, 12 gauge pump, and 22 bolt action.
