Grain Free Homestead
Приєднався 25 тра 2013
We're just a regular family making it the best way we know how. We recently bought my ancestral farmhouse from the 1880's and have been doing our best to get it renovated. Our goal is to decrease our dependence on the supply chain more and more each year. Our diet is a little different than most homesteaders in that we can't have gluten or any grain for that matter due to severe allergies. We want to share homesteading, gardening and grainfree living with you guys. We love sharing ways to be more independent as well as getting ideas from you guys!

A whole beef? You mean a cow! A whole cow, it's beef as a meat
@@gregspace2 nope I bought the whole beef just the parts I wanted the head blood and skin and other undesirable parts didn’t come home with me. The farmer I bought it from said whole beef and the butcher who processed it called it a whole beef. Maybe a regional thing but you weren’t the first person that didn’t agree. Thanks for the comment and have a blessed day
Also to be taken into consideration. Figure how long it's going to take to use that much meat. And add the cost of the energy needed to store it, frozen into your math. So you're looking at the energy cost of running too large freezers for up to a year.
@@red_five1542 good point for us the freezers are full of meat chickens or beef or frozen veggies from the garden
I understood you fully, and I'm from the UK, where it is vastly different when purchasing a whole animal. I thought what you said was pretty clear. I suppose though it just depends on what you are used to dealing with or have dealt with. You get an incredible deal! I am very jealous! 😊😊
@@bettylocks2.0 thank you for commenting glad you enjoyed it and it is an amazing deal

How long can you keep this meat? I mean how long does it store in the freezer or by other means? Just asking…..
@@sherylpaul-stubbs2516 depends on if you freeze it properly. Vacuum sealed will last 2-3 years just in a freezer bag around a year in the freezer maybe 18months. If you freeze dry the meat then vacuum seal it you can get 20+ years. We did a part 2 on this video to help answer questions.

thanks i will try this next time
Speaking of soup bones. Who can buy soup bones unless you buy the bone in the ribeye roast? I couldn't. This is when I had enough of these stores and began my search in buying the whole cow and dividing it up with family. I'm sick and tired of these stores poisoning our food and controlling everything. I wish we could close every last one of them down.
Most of the chain grocery stores in my area sell soup bones. 1.50 to 1.75 per pound.
Honestly I think your beef is cheaper than you even think it is cause you’re not even taking into account if you cooked with tallow you don’t have to go to the grocery store to buy any type of cooking oil anymore so that also saves you there along with you can make turn own stock/broth another money saver. Using the whole cow saves so much other ways other than just the cut of meat that it becomes more cost effective than going to the store and buying these items individually
@@oluwaseunolaleye6518 you are exactly right we just wanted to show the basics because most people don’t use everything
It's definitely worth it to buy the whole cow. Our family has 4 separate households. We divide it up evenly. Everyone has their own freezers. We vacuum pack everything. It takes time, but the whole family gets together and we get it all sorted and packed in a day. It's lasts the entire year. A stand up freezer is better suited because it makes it easier to organize and know where everything is at. We grind scrap and other cuts. We also make beef bacon in our smoker.
@@reneemills-mistretta790 that’s amazing such a blessing to have so many of your family working together to help each other. Thank you for sharing
@GrainFreeHomestead ThankQ, and yes, it truly is a blessing sharing with our family. We also keep and maintain free-range hens for our delicious eggs. I'm so grateful & thankful to our American beef ranchers who refuse to cave in to the pressure of injecting our beef 💉 💉. For you folks who don't have other family households to share the expense with, ask your close friends/neighbors to split and divide the costs. It's truly worth it. Tasting beef that hasn't been injected with poison is truly amazing. The flavor, that deep, rich beef flavor? We forgot what that clean beef tastes like. God Bless everyone. 🙏
A little over $7/lb?
@@yiayialindaluzy yes
@@yiayialindaluzy we did a part 2 to answer more questions we got
I dont know which is better, beef tongue, or beef heart. Boil the beef tongue in broth and seasoning, until cooked Once it's cooked, let it cool, then peel the skin off, let it chill and slice it. Trust me, its good, so tender. It makes great sandwiches. just leave the skin on when you boil it, it is easier to take off once it has been cooked and later cooled. The heart, pretty much the same, boil it and let it cook for a long time, keep adding water as needed. The heart makes good soup.
@@zzzubmno2755 thank you I will have to try the soup

Thank you this helped A LOT. I dont typically blow dry my own hair and found that sections of 4 on thick hair doesn’t work with the comb attachment. Whew chile 😅😂❤
beef in my area from my local farms and butcher starts at $9/lb and since it takes us 2 years to get through a half a cow it really wasn't worth it to us
In the Central Coast of California, Harvest price is over $300/head. Cut/Wrap is $2+/lb. Live weight beef is $5000-$6000. The prices are way higher out in CA which might make having the beef shipped from another state more economical even with shipping.
@@yoelandtina woo that’s crazy I know there is a lot of extra taxes and regulations there that cause the prices to be much higher
Understand folks, $7 a lb as a whole not by cut! This works for them and I'm sure if some of you did the math, this would work for you too. They are spending less by gettinga whole cow and have more options on cuts of meat. I paid $40 bucks for a 3lb brisket and $25 for 2 steaks here in San Diego, CA. These stores are ripping us off! My goal is to buy land, start a mini farm with a few cows and chickens. Enough to rotate throughout the year s9 I don't have to depend on a store anymore. Plant my own fruits and vegetables too...

Partially thawed fat cuts super easy or totally thawed and COLD ... cuts like butter. I cut it into 1'/2" slices, then strips, then cubes .. they melt down into soft blobs. I like the meat grinder suggestion below but I suggest NOT using a stick blender - it pulverizes the tissue and grizzle and it's impossible to filter it out - powderized particles will go thru cheesecloth.. grinding is gentler and won't turn tissue to powder that can't be removed.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try cutting it in chunks next time!

Hey, I loved your video. I just wanted to ask in case a guy wanted to cut up his own half or whole beef. Do you know about how much you would save buying it uncut ?
@@brianpentecostaldeplorable9841 pretty sure it’s cost around $1,000 to raise a cow for beef and it cost around $3,000 for us to buy everything finished out. I am just guessing because every where has different prices somewhere around $700 -$1000 to butcher and process.
Sorry when you say a whole beef beef is a type of meat. A cow is where beef comes from so you buy a whole cow not a whole beef. I know this could just be where you live. That’s how you speak but in America, we need to have proper English and beef is a type of meat that comes from a cow. You do not buy a whole beef you buy a whole cow, which is beef. Sorry for my little rant, but it was annoying to hear you. Call a cow - beef.
@@gilbertsickler2528 I actually didn’t buy a cow I bought the beef from the farm who raised the cow.
