Porsche 968 Clubsport Supercharged: No Nonsense Driving Tool. Shooting Brake's B-Road Review
In 1976, Porsche decided to expand their model range with a front engine, rear wheel drive sportscar called the 924. Equipped with an inline-four cylinder engine and a transaxle gearbox layout, Porsche's traditionally laid out sportscar offered fantastic limit-handling and old-school looks at an affordable price.
The 924 transformed into the wider, sleeker, faster 944. A comprehensive revision of the original formula, the 944 was a 1980s sales success and an icon of the 'yuppie' era. Porsche decided to revise the platform for the 1990s, but the resulting car was so different from the 944 that it now commanded a new name, creating the 968 nameplate.
Only produced for 4 years, the 968 occupies a curious place in Porsche history. The revised chassis offered incredible chassis dynamics, but the engine was mooted by some to be somewhat underwhelming. The founder of Shooting Brake, Amir, purchased this example after a long history of transaxle Porsches. Disappointed with the power on offer, he promptly took the car to 9Excellence, who fitted a centrifugal supercharger boosting output to 300bhp/300ftlbs.
Ghaleb took this supercharged Porsche 968 Clubsport to its home turf on German L-roads to find out what it's really about. If you liked this video, please do like, comment and subscribe. This video is bought to you by Shooting Brake, the auction platform for car enthusiasts.

Porsche 911 Carrera (996) Buyers Guide by Shooting Brake

Porsche released the 996 generation 911 to critical acclaim in 1997. Their first ground-up design since Butzi's original 1960's sportscar, the new 911 was lighter, faster and quieter than before. The headlights weren't round anymore, and the engine was now watercooled, but renewed dynamics, performance and practicality won the hearts of minds of 175,000 people over the model's lifespan. Would love a guide for the regular Z4 coupe 3.0si! From what I heard, the N52B30 should be more reliable than the S54, but the ones available in my area are quite high mileage (around 150k miles) and I'm nervous about buying such a high mileage car.

    • @shootingbrake
      @shootingbrake 8 днів тому

N52 is a very very solid engine. I would happily purchase a high mileage one (as long the miles are backed up with strong service history). I don't think they have any mileage related foibles, except for the ZF6 automatic gearbox which can present with mechatronic leaks and worn torque converters.

I'm an SL320 owner in the UK. Great review. One slight addition: There were two 3.2 engines in the later models: a straight 6 and a V6. I initially went shopping for a V8 but ended up buying the V6. Why? Bang for your buck. You're correct; the V8 and V12 models are wonderful but aren't worth the premium over the great prices you can get a six-cylinder for. I took mine for a 3,500-mile road trip around Europe last year. It did the Austrian Alps, Croatian backroads, Italian cities, 100s of miles on autobahns (215kph with the roof down was fast enough for me!), and much more, in the baking sun and torrential rain. I didn't have a single issue and I never got backache (which I'm prone to). I don't know what a V8 would have done that the V6 didn't. If you're buying, take advice from people who've driven each engine and don't just buy a V8 because it's a V8.

I'm 6ft, personally found the ergonomics good with the bucket seats but if the seat was any higher it would have bothered me, so perhaps standard non CS seats wouldn't have suited. I found the doors to be unusually short and small. The manual boot release located on the left hand side by the suspension turret is inconveniently placed. Other than that I found the driving position and general ergonomics to be very very good.

Great review. Very fair. I have had one for a year and I love it, every drive is fun. The steering wheel point is very true, great on the country roads but a bit annoying in Waitrose car park. You get used to the gear box and it’s great once you are going but you do need to finesse it a bit. I think it has got better (softened) once I had done a 1000 miles or so. Fits my golf clubs which is a plus! People like it, which surprised me a bit. A get a lot of comments from strangers so even though it isn’t very visible in racing any more in the U.K. (and owned by Chinese!) people seem to feel warmly about it. I test drove a Caymen boxter ftype and 991 Carrera and it had the most involvement and fun factor, which is what I wanted. I tracked one recently at thruxon and it was great fun but you do need to concentrate more than in some of the other I have driven so definitely not the fastest lap times for a mainly recreational driver like me. If I could change one thing it would be a higher rev limiter level, but having said that you only really get there on track or slip road acceleration.

Tough question, depends on your buying criteria. Instinctively I would cross shop the Emira with the Alpina A110 (less powerful however), used 911s, BMW's M2 and perhaps even older V6 Lotuses. The Emira in many ways however occupies its own space - the supercar-esque looks completely belie the car's price point, which is a selling point in its own right, and the steering feel is unparalleled. By those measures it has no competitors.

Essentially a 996 has a few issues to watch out for like any other Porsche ! People need to stop giving these cars a hard time. Although I do think recently this is starting to change. I’ve had a 996 for the past 11 years and recently put it up for sale but then couldn’t let it go when I found a buyer! What a great car for the money. I still prefer the interior of the 996 to the nasty silver plastic trim of the 997. If you don’t have one, buy one quick before the prices go up as everyone else realises they are a great analogue car where you control it and not a computer !

I had a model one my dad bought me as a kid in red . I’m always drawn to cars I loved as a kid/late teenager. I had a purple nismo r34 gtr model too - somehow don’t think I’ll ever get one a those though 🤣 great review, absolutely loved it

Thanks so much! R34s may have skyrocketed but there's always E46 M3s!

My F10 M5 Competition has been garaged for 4 yrs with 10,000 miles on a CTEK however last week on start up it idled at 4,000 rpm and when selecting drive it shot up to the red line (8,000) it has over 86 faults from the OBD2. I'm seriously considering a diet of Semtex and fertiliser..

Sorry to hear! Sounds like a strange issue, let us know what the outcome was.

My advice is to slow it down a little. I love his excitement, however I have been a media coach for many top talent directing 30 and 60 second spots for TV and radio. Just slow down the speech (script) a little, while still presenting an exciting delivery. It can be done.

Content is spot on. I’ve learned so much more from this video compared to all the others I’ve watched so far. The delivery is good in spirit but could be better if some of the words were pronounced in full. I had to rewind several times to understand some of the words. The price of the vehicle for example. I couldn’t make it out. I know I could look it up but surely that’s not the point. You may not need to slow down as such. You could pause at the end of a sentence for a split second just to make sure you’ve pronounced the last word in full before moving on to the next sentence. If you could do that without loosing any of your enthusiasm, that would be great I think.

Great review! I recently sold my 03 996 Turbo and got into a 17 Maserati Granturismo Sport. The Mas is an astonishing car that's beautiful from every angle, sounds glorious and is a fantastically competent GT. But, I'm considering adding a 996.1 Carrera 2, as I love the simplicity of the design and the .1 headlights. If I do it, it'll be the mirror image of yours with the black on black. I look forward to the full review of your car and everything that you love about it.

Love the Granturismos, fantastic sounding cars! A .1 Carrera 2 is a great place to be - stay tuned!
