T4:E3.1 - Essential Bunker Adjustments for Uphill & Downhill Lies
If your ball is not in the bottom of the bunker and you find yourself facing either an uphill or downhill lie, there are a few critical setup and angle of attack adjustments you simply must make to your stock bunker shot if you don't want to skull it into the face of the bunker or pop it straight up into the air. Do this and you'll quickly gain confidence with these relatively common bunker shots.

    The reason Amateurs under read putts 100% is not because their 1st read is wrong. It is actually spot on. They see the curve, pick the Apex and start it on that. But slope has taken the ball below Apex. Hence, whatever the Apex and start line thereto, the putt line must be double that for downhill and 1.5 times for uphill putts. Cater for ball moving offline even as it is travelling up to vizualised Apex of Putt.

    Do you address your driver the same way?

    • @rjgolf
      @rjgolf Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment @jimford3517. In short, yes, you can use this method to determine where to place the tee in relation to your stance (i.e. ball position; refer to time stamp 1:56 to 3:53; and 5:26 to 6:15). But, setup and swing will change with the presence of the tee. For example, stance will widen a bit and secondary spine angle will increase relative to club length and presence of tee (time stamp 6:43 wrt when on a tee); and lead foot might flare out a bit more, personal preference (time stamp 7:40). And, as always, don't forget to hover the club (separate video here ua-cam.com/video/9l29SK-xt58/v-deo.html ). All that said, the swing will definitely be different but that's a whole 'nother set of videos! Stay tuned as we will be addressing all of this in followup videos as we build out our "Topic 5 :: Power Game" playlist. Best, RJ

    Is there a preference for 56 vs 60 degree wedges and ideal bounce for your sand shots....i have both wedges....but is one better then another....???

    • @rjgolf
      @rjgolf Рік тому

      Thanks, Tyson. Great question. For me, my go-to is my 58 (your 60) when close to the green, and this is my most lofted wedge. But, an exception might be long bunker shots, where I'll go down to my 55. Also depends on your type of play. If you are mid- to high-handicap, then I'd suggest 56 with a medium bounce. But if you are a lower handicap, then you would likely use a more lofted wedge with relatively low bounce (when close to the green), such as a 58/60 with 4 to 8 degrees of bounce. But, again, when you are in a longer bunker shot, you might go to the lower wedge. And, of course, conditions can impact all this, too! Heck, Lee Trevino would hit 3-irons out of the sands in clinics just to demonstrate the point that you can use different clubs with different technique in the same situation. But, it's about finding what works for YOU. That's the bottom line in golf. Net net, it's good that you have both a 56 and a 60. This allows you to try them both in various situations and conditions so that you know which to use when. You might also want more bounce on the 56 than the 60 just to increase more optionality. Let me know if this helps! Cheers, RJ

    RJ, does the foot placement change relative to target line with how much you open the face? I.e. if open the clubface more at address, do we open our stance up more?

    • @rjgolf
      @rjgolf Рік тому

      Thank you for the question, Cole. Short answer... yes, and I certainly do a little myself. However, I don't always do this and I'd consider this a personal preference. It depends on various factors, such as conditions, the lie, slope, etc. but the best thing to do is get out there and try several variations and see what feels best for you. Also remember, the more loft, the more left you have to aim to hit the ball straight. Let me know how it goes. Best, RJ

      Thank you, @madhur732. I appreciate the feedback (and taking the time to comment; apparently, that helps spread our videos by the YT algorithm). My goal is definitely clear, concise, quick instruction without the noise of clickbait, self-aggrandizing, etc., so I appreciate that specific feedback especially. :) Cheers, RJ

    What you said is fine as an outline to golf; but needs to become compressed for the golfer to understand it better and apply it effectively to their swing. I think it might be helpful if you could boil it down to basis concepts of the golf swing. 1. Setting up to the ball correctly as this is 90 percent of the swing. 2. Exactly what is Angular/ Momentum: how to do it effectively since linear and rotation must be done together as one motion 3. Trusting the physics behind parametric acceleration of the club head to go directly through the ball as well as understanding ground force reaction that is simply a trusted reaction coming from the ground that torques the golfers body lifting the golfer’s trail heel off the ground at the finish of their swing as opposed to the golfer attempting to do this themselves. As Moe Norman said K. I. S.S. But let the golfer understand the basic laws of physics behind their swing. Cheers 👍😃⛳️🥂 Cheers 👍😃⛳️🥂

      Thanks, Thomas. I agree. It's a lot to cover in our first (of many) videos related to setup and the various swings. A lot more coming. And, I like your suggestions wrt how to boil it down further in the future. Definitely on the same page. I also love that you have an appreciation of the physics of golf. One of my personal mentors was Matt Kluck (PGA Master Professional) and he was a proponent of Homer Kelley's "The Golfing Machine," which goes deep into the fundamental geometry and physics of golf. You might like to check it out. Best, RJ

      @@rjgolf i was hoping that you might read below and test out my theory of the golf swing and that if one were to follow my easy direction if it would work for them as well. Isn’t the real 3 D golf swing angular momentum consisting of a combined movement of linear direction happening at the exact same moment rotational direction is happening? Absolutely! And so if you can show the discipline of how to easily achieve both at the same time; wouldn’t it be worth it? So far I believe there is only one way our brain can actuate such a swing and I have never seen any golf instructor teach it. In a nutshell it is a simple way to wind up our body and then to simply let it go. However we must keep our body in our set golf posture and head down until the momentum of the club head brings our body up and rotates our head left to the finish of our swing. Often times the average golfer does this nicely and then ask themselves: I wish I could bottle it. How is it done? Remember you only have one chance to get it right unless your name is Mr Mulligan. So take your time and do it correctly. First: do a little wiggle waggle with your belly button to wake up your oblique and stomach muscles. Second: Pause and then aim directly at your intended target while getting into your ideal golf posture bending your body with your lead elbow initially pressing at the end point down across your chest. (Do not apply any pressure with your trail elbow as that needs to bend and moves rotationally in conjunction with your rotating belly button ) Third: Staying in your golf posture keeping you head down; however you may turn your head once to your lead side to double check your target. Forth: while remaining in your golf posture simply start your back swing with your belly button rotating to your trail side along with your lead elbow not rotating with your belly button but linearly following it. That’s it! Your hands, arms, shoulders, hips, and knees will immediately respond naturally winding your body up to the point it has no other choice but to shift and turn your body left. It is through the physics of parametric acceleration that you can trust your club head going directly through your ball and that the momentum of the accelerating club head will automatically rotate your head to your lead side as you are standing your body up at the end of your swing. Hope I made myself clear and you try it yourself. Cheers 👍😃⛳️🥂
