An Aesthete at Home: Infuse Your World with Beauty
"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."
- William Morris
William Morris, was a key figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with beauty and utility in the home, reflecting the core of an aesthete’s approach to living spaces.
Are you someone who has a deep appreciation for beauty and art?
Perhaps you too are an aesthete.
Being a highly sensitive child, I naturally found my way toward beauty as a form of escape. This soon led to art making that allowed me to channel my creativity and I believe, saved my life.
Experiencing beauty, creating it, living with it, surrounding myself with it-and then finally finding it within myself changed my life forever.
Here are specific characteristics of an Aesthete & how to bring more beauty into your life :
Refined Sensibility
Aesthetes have a heightened sensitivity to beauty in various forms, whether in nature, art, design, or everyday life.
Attention to Detail
They often notice and appreciate small details that others might overlook, such as the texture of fabric, the play of light and shadow, or the subtleties of color.
Strong Personal Style
Aesthetes typically have a distinct and well-developed sense of personal style, which reflects their taste and appreciation for beauty. This can be seen in their clothing, home decor, and overall lifestyle choices.
Passion for Art and Culture
They have a deep love for art, music, literature, and other cultural expressions. They often seek out and immerse themselves in artistic experiences.
Emotional Connection to Beauty
Aesthetes often feel a strong emotional response to beauty. It can uplift their mood, inspire them, or even bring them a sense of peace and fulfillment.
Curatorial Approach
They tend to curate their environments, carefully selecting objects, colors, and arrangements that contribute to an aesthetically pleasing space.
Intellectual Engagement
Aesthetes often engage intellectually with art and beauty, seeking to understand and analyze why something is beautiful and what it evokes.
Discerning Taste
They have a well-developed sense of taste, often preferring quality and craftsmanship over mass-produced or superficial items.
Pursuit of Aesthetic Experiences
Aesthetes actively seek out beauty in their surroundings and experiences, whether through travel, visits to galleries, or the creation of beautiful spaces.
Remember that when you open your eyes to the beautify in your home, you train your eyes to experience the beauty in your life.
Sending you so much love from NY 😘

Wow! I just had an aha moment! When I have purchased things for my home because of a feeling that the item evoked, they continue to bring me joy even years later. For instance, I bought a crystal cut sugar bowl and creamer cup at a street fair for $15.00. I didn’t really need them, but my friend told me to buy them simply because of how much I admired them. Every time I see them in my cupboard, and especially when I use them, I feel joy. When I have rushed a purchased and bought things that I thought were nice (but didn’t really spark joy), I’ve regretted them or lost interest. This video definitely gave me food for thought about how I will buying pieces for my home.

I just keep a constant eye out for things that I connect with. Ahhh so you know the film. I introduced it to Jerry abc he loved it. I tear up every time. It’s really such a beautiful ending and even as an adult I think, “Wow.” On a side note too-I remember as a small child imaging what it would be like to float in the sky. This was so thought provoking. I concluded that I am not an aesthete, but you being one is why I love you and your channel! I am much more simple, and objects do not evoke a great deal of emotion in me; however, color, simple lines, utility, and the natural world of the garden or a woodland are where I see beauty and find peace. We're just starting to really remodel our home after 21 years, but you should see the yard!!!!!! That is where my heart is ❤

The video really appealed to me. ❤❤ I started collecting beautiful things in nature very early on. And I love homemade and individual things. Individual pieces, painted, pottery, crocheted and much more. At some point I lost my way and let myself be influenced by Instagram. I bought lots of branded items just because it felt like everyone had them. After about a year, I sold everything again because I realized that the items had no emotional value for me. I have now rediscovered my old treasures and am very happy. 🙏😊

Your videos have all resonated so much because I’m still figuring out my new space. Really appreciated this. It definitely spoke to me as a Capricorn sun, Libra rising, amd Aries moon. I see how all three are injected into my home. I like a soft, cozy, practical, neutral, but semi luxe palette, which represents that Capricorn & Libra sides, but I’m obsessed with candles. I have an entire storage basket overflowing with candles. I can never have enough and I love bright or colorful artwork on the walls to balance out the neutral tones. The latter represents my Aries side.

There is so much inspiration there and in life. Movies, books, music, food, etc all things can bring you inspiration-but most importantly trust yourself in this process 🤗 Your home doesn’t have to look like someone else’s to be beautiful, memorable and nurturing ✨ This is what designers do with their clients to create a home that is unique-and you deserve that too!

I don't have a lot of money, but that only makes me more creative and I finally have the freedom and peace I have been longing for (and room to dance because I am finally feeling joyful after years of pain and sadness). Ooooh I am so excited for this cabinet! I’ve wanted it for a year-a year CD-but we had to wait. Also we wanted to look around for something second hand that could be even better, yet nothing has topped it yet!

Christina, Thank you so much for those heartfelt words. I think that since I was a young girl, I have always sought to create a sanctuary in my home...it felt intentional, and I was always driven to do so- but now, more than ever- do we feel the significance of creating an environment that will allow us to feel at peace, and at the same time to be inspired, so that we may continue to expand in knowledge (within ourselves, most importantly, as well as expand in what we learn of the world we inhabit- and our place within it). It is true, that some interior designers, or shows of interior design- are done for the wrong reasons (imo)- driven by showing off, or changing constantly for trends rather than what speaks to who one is, as an individual soul- encompassing all their experiences, tastes, and individuality. Your focus and inspiration for this channel is what draws such a beautiful community here. I do think that probably all of us here, resonate exactly with your sentiments in your final statement. Beautiful.

Thank you 🥹 I am touched by your words so much. This is my mission with the channel. I want use all to feel the embrace of home and its purpose in our lives. I do think our lovely community feels this ❤️ and as we move forward this energy will grow welcoming others. We are so blessed to have a home and to be able to make that home our own-a place that inspires us everyday. Thank you dear for being here and sharing your kindness ✨

Just subscribed. Your living room is so exceptionally beautiful, you have such a great eye for creating small vignettes of interest and they are so beautifully cohesive. Would you have any advice or my living room? I don't have a sofa but a chaise at an angle in a corner. I'm not sure how to position an accent chair or other seating . I also only have 2 walls that can be used . All of the photos online usually have huge living rooms with room for sofa etc and I do not. Looking forward to binge watching all your past videos.❤

Layout has been such a process in our home. It’s 576 sq ft and one room. Separate bath and utility (mini laundry room) room. We are on our 4th dining table and chairs. A 36” round table with the right color variation and height with chairs that tucked in to keep things functional as you walk around was hard to find. Plus we use it so much we didn’t want to buy something expensive and have to be a bit fussy with it. We opted for the (Ikea) Mariedamm table and two Yngvar chairs. We also have that space in our home when you come out of the main hallway and walk to the kitchen there’s a short wall. On that short wall we have had…🤔 an armoire (too bulky and dark), a book shelf (too busy & not functional), now we have the Potter Barn Reed Buffet in soft black. It’s super functional and there is a place for books and a small quantity of office supplies. Our printer will fit inside as well. The depth is perfect and the style is simple. I’ve also had to learn about the shape of furniture. When to use a glass top table over a solid wood, or metal. How much black to infuse in the space, how much wood. We chose not to have a television since our space is so small, we just use our devices to watch things. You videos help so much because you incorporate really practical tips and seeing your space is so useful. I would love the Perseus Sconce on the wall over the Reed Buffet…🤔✨I think it would be so pretty at night all lit up. ❤❤❤

It’s sounds like you have put a lot of thought and also effort and education into your space. Love the buffet idea-I imagine it keeps things pulled inward and organized. A big focus with small spaces, but you’ve also taken the time to make sure it’s thoughtful ❤️ I’m so happy you enjoyed this video and the tips. I think this series is going to be a lot of fun-I love simplifying things so I’m looking forward to being more of these to you!

Hi! We used Hardwood Putty on the walls and Antique White on the kitchen cabinets-both Benjamin Moore 🤍 Love these whites-they’re not super bring and resemble the walls of an older home.

I had a floor plan while i waited for my apartment to be built, that I played around with so much before I got to move in. In the end I found the feng shui command position and went from there. The best surprise was that in that position, I have a full unobstructed view of the full moon rising every month. It's amazing! xx

I really enjoyed your commentary on decorating a home. I’m in limbo right now with my home for sale, but not much buyer interest. I’ve only lived here 1 yr and bought this house unseen in person from out of state. However, in 1 yr we already made this house very cozy and yet we’re thinking of moving so we can have a little more property. It’s hard because I’m sort of torn either way. I think it’s because I’m such a homebody at heart and feel nurtured by my personal space …

    • @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio
      @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio 6 днів тому

Oh yes I know those feelings! I get very connected to my home and I’ve moved many times! Just know that where ever you go, you will be able to create a new home and this same feeling cozy feeling. When we put our heart and our love into a space, me transform it from just another house into a Home ❤️

You and your home are gorgeous! Thanks for the great ideas. I have a doorway that makes it so that my furniture has to be against the walls and a stair that juts into the room which will affect rug placement ,but you have showed me that I can still make it cozy.

    • @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio
      @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio 6 днів тому

Oh good! I know there can be limitations and pulling the furniture off the wall is one suggestion-however we must make our designs fit into our unique spaces. I’m so glad you still got inspiration and new ideas on bringing it all in to create a cozy space to enjoy 🥰
