Unplanned bed refresh! // The Restless Gardener
Переглядів 50014 днів тому
This was not a bed that we had intended to refresh this year, but some of the shrubs had either outgrown the space or were ready to, so it was time for them to move to more appropriate locations. I didn't show us doing much planting; moving the Summersweet and the Veronicastrum from the very bottom of our property to the very top was neither glamorous nor easy, and after that, we were beat!! I am not a huge hydrangea fan ( i am an odd duck) , but boy those look so much nicer than the natives that were in there.....Natives have a place in the garden but, in that bed, it was an awesome improvement to move them out. I have about 80-ish acres here in Massachusetts with a ton of wild( native) flower fields. The gardens are not messy like the fields. i love the fields, i just like the cultivated gardens better. My gardens are similar to yours, but i use more evergreens. otherwise we have very similar taste. lol.....but i cant stand roses. to much of a diva. i cannot possibly pay that much attention to one plant. I have one climbing rose and three wild roses. The climbing rose looks like yours. the Jap beetles did as number on it. I planted it last fall and regretted it by this june. Don't be embarrassed by the beds being unfinished. all in due time. I am glad you are getting help with it. but don't be afraid to show it. We ALL have those problems. Some years we have it all together and think we mastered the gardening thing, and the next year it takes a turn and it goes to hell in a hand basket. I was on an uptick this year, but now the septic has to be redone and it is going to get messy and i am going to have to remove a few substantial size apple trees and a magnolia.....UGh! If i could i would share a picture with you so you could feel better about your progress! :)

That's going to look great when it acclimates to it's new surroundings. I love cat mint with evergreens. I agree with the shrub idea. you have the conical shape, how about a dome shapes evergreen like an abelia or mountain laurel that stay small enough not to shade the Thuja? But there is plenty of time to decide now that it looks, like you said, so lush. My fingers are crossed for you during this heat wave. Here in Massachusetts, It begins this afternoon and by Thursday we are close to 100. I'll spend the next three days babysitting the new additions. But that's ok. atleast it will be back in the high 80's by next week. Have a great day!
