How to Overcome the 2,048 Open File Limitation in Windows with Seestar Script in Siril
Are you running into the frustrating "Max number of opened files (2048) is larger than required number of images" error in Windows while using Siril's Seestar Preprocessing script? You're not alone! This common issue can hinder your astrophotography workflow and prevent you from processing large datasets effectively.
I've put together a modified version of the original Seestar Preprocessing script that allows you to process beyond that 2,048 Windows limit!

    Questions/comments: I've noticed the deconvolution problems but hadn't attributed them to GraXpert. With small Seestar images, I find cropping is not necessary. Process is fast. Thanks for tip on reducing no. of iterations. In adjusting step size, try initial step increase to .0004 or .0005 to save time. In another video, you said AstroSharp may conflict with deconvolution. Any update? Nice tip about color stretch model. Is that true for nebulae too? I notice you did not use symmetry pt. for first 2 stretches. In linear stretch, you can click on histogram to set black point. Towards the end of processing, I try to make black area ~7-10% saturation. I noticed you did not use Highlight protection for galaxy core & didn't check the saturation there. I've been trying to avoid overstretching of bright areas (and bright stars) when I stretch them. In final image, sometimes stars have a green cast (perhaps due to independant color stretch?), so I use remove green noise tool. Also, I often increase saturation and/or do a saturation stretch rather than using my old (CS4) version of Photoshop. Sometimes after Siril processing, I use another noise reduction in GraXpert and/or the last two noise reduction processes in Siril. But occasionally these introduce serious artifacts in a galaxy core. Perhaps from GraXpert?

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro 3 години тому

      It's not just AstroSharp, you probably shouldn't combine any sharpening tools together, but you can always try and see what happens. Regarding the rest of your comments, there's not one way to do anything. Experiment with the tools to get the results you're happy with.

    Thanks for the video. Just in case someone has issues like me, where Sirilic was always aborting because after calibrating it could not stack. It gave an error that it did not had any stars. Somehow the calibration flats removed all the stars. I read in somewhere that: "Flats won’t work properly unless you subtract the bias from both the flats and the lights." So I just added the step to also substract the Bias to the images, not just the flats, like in the video, and I stopped having issues. It stacked just great.

  • @FredOzzie
    @FredOzzie 15 годин тому

    Great tutorial. Thanks. Comment: For integration >30 min, a Seestar produces a lighter diagonal band with dark corners due to field rotation artifacts. To hide these, I use the Siril Background Extraction tool --- more than once before stretching. I often use it once w/o dither and then 2-5 times with dither. It really helps.

    I have a question not associated with this video, but abour your narrowband processing and hubble pallet videos. I wanted to make a script like ExtractHaOIII but include drizzling. Currently i shoot very under sampled so drizzling is almost necessary. But I'm struggling to figure out how to do this. I read a cloudy nights thread and it didn't really help as it ended before they got it working. My other options i understand are just stacking normally, then split color channels(but that doesn't seem to give as good of an effect as the script), or possibly just stack nornally and use your automatic hubble script? What do you think? An automatic script that stacks, drizzles, and extracts into two fake mono images seems to me like the simplest route but possibly most complex to set up. Could you help me? And thank you for all your help already. I got an asi2600mc pro and upgrading to a good camera caused me to dive into seeing how to best process and you've been great help!

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro День тому

      EDIT: I found a better way to do this vs. what I explained below. Test it out the script below and let me know So I think I have this worked out. I had to register the Ha a 2nd time so I could drizzle. The way the original script works is you end up with an image half the resolution, and then it drizzles during registration to bring it back up to full resolution. So since I had to register again to upsample, that's another sequence of files that are created, so more drive space. Probably not a big deal, but wanted to make you're aware. I've ran the modified script just a few times, and it appears to work. I'm just wondering if downsampling, then effectively drizzling twice does anything to the data. Anyway, play with it and let me know. 1drv.ms/u/s!Aii2lourR1D0gapKqjy35MW49GfXUQ?e=0Q43Eq

    I have used Fastar than Hyperstar from when it was first created by Celestron. I had one of the very first Fastar/ST 237 setups. When Starizona improved the design and Celestron let him take over the product and make improvements and scale it up to larger scopes I progressed from all the versions and now with V4 on both my 11" SCT and 8" SCT HD scopes. I also manage a Scout observatory in MIchigan that has a 14" Celestron SCT with V3 Hyperstar. I am a long time friend and customer of Dean, the owner of Starizona. They are a fantastic company and great employees. Collimation was never a big issue. Center a star in the full FOV, get the shadow of the secondary centered and than VERY IMPORTANT....RECENTER the star and repeat the process. Once it is very good tighten the screws a bit tighter so they won't come loose when transported Both of my scopes hold collimation very well. I use with a couple of OSC cameras. Lately I have been using a ZWO 071 with the various ZWO items like their electronic focuser, guide scope via a 60m guide scope, etc. The 11" is on a AP 1100, the 8" is on a ZWO AM5 for field use. I normally use a ASI AIR Plus to run everything from my Samsung Galaxy large tablet. If you use a narrow band filter.... you need one designed for a fast scope. If you use a NB filter designed for slower scopes, it will fall off the band

    I use graxpert in Windows and never found that issue. Some info, I always use 0.7 for gradient and de noise factors, and most of the times I use version 2.0 for denoise model, which is much faster than version 3 and I see not relevant improvement. In my workflow I found best results applying a second denoise in the stretched image, as the process of streching seems to reintroduce noise in the image.

      Probably collimation not being perfect.

    Great video! The final images look incredibly better using Siril, Graxpert and GIMP.

      As someone just starting to muddle their way through this, this lesson was invaluable. But, at what point in the process would Graxpert and GIMP be used? (sorry for the lazy question, I'm just getting overdone in tutorials).

    Glad to see you obtained a Hyperstar. Can't wait to see more videos from you about it. I have a v4 with a C8 and love it. I live in Tucson about a 15 min drive from Starizona. Their staff is the best.

    Congratulations! I just recently used my c8/hyperstar v3 for the first time and am thrilled with it. I did align my corrector plate first, and use the hyperstar flush. I'm really wanting to leave the scope in this configuration now, so thinking about adding a small sensor small pixel camera such as the 715c sensor for some extra magnification and resolution come galaxy season next year.
