Thank you very much for covering the new AI Beta of GraXpert! Placing sample points actually doesn't do anything with the AI method. The difference you saw in the last image was due to the lower smoothing. I recommend to use a smoothing of 0.0 because the AI is already trained to produce a smooth background. I haven't seen an image yet where smoothing helps to get a better result with the AI method selected. CS Steffen

Thanks Rich. I mentioned on your previous post on GraXpert I really liked some of its features. I tried the AI beta version on some image sessions where I didn't take flats and I'm impressed at how well it took out severe gradients.

Thanks for covering this, works great!!! Important note, when you first open GraXpert, you need to click on the Advanced tab on the right, then select the AI directory to load the AI folder that was downloaded.

Hi, that's a feature in the newest Beta version v1.0.6cAI . The default directory for the 'bg_model' folder is the same, so if you follow the instructions in the video it should also work. But you now also have the option to put the 'bg_model' folder into another directory and then manually select it in the advanced menu.
This will be a game changer when it gets into Siril, make it a true one stop shop for Astro Programs.
I'm not sure it will get into Siril directly. The GraXpert AI model appears to be written in python / keras, which would be pretty difficult to translate to C or C++ to include in Siril. Plus the GraXpert guys have worked really hard on their application and have come up with something pretty cool and unique; I'm not sure I would want to just absorb that into Siril. However what I might do is ask if they'd be willing to make it so that when the GraXpert bundle executable is run it can take a filename as an argument. That way Siril could call GraXpert with the current file, and reload the file when GraXpert exits, which would allow the use of both tools reasonably seamlessly within a workflow.
That would be a great alternative! So version 1.2.1?😂

My thoughts comes due to my lack of experience in the Astrophotography hobby, having only started doing this in March this year.
I have found that there are a plethora of programs that can do bits and pieces of the processing, but none of them are integrated. I am sure that there are many people who would pay for a one stop shop, one that analyses, stacks and enables all the process to be completed in one instance, rather than Sirilic, Siril, DSS, GraXpert, PS et al...
It was confusing and frustrating, without the help of Deep Sky Astro, AstroBackyard et al, I probably would not have persisted. The tutorials and generosity of the the community has kept me in and helped substantially.
If we had a program that was all inclusive, I would pay money for it (I have contributed to a number of programs via paypal such as Astrosharp) and then everyone of the developers would benefit and be able to continue providing this great product for us all.
This is by no means a criticism as all the developers are doing their bit, just that all of the bits, which make up the whole is bit like buying an Ikea Poang armchair and getting no instructions and the wrong sized Allen Key.
Thanks for all the work everyone is doing and keep it up, we are getting there.

@@DeepSpaceAstro 😂 I think it would be a 1.4 feature at this stage - I'm not a huge fan of adding features within a stable release, certain other astro software *cough*kstars*cough* does that and it tends to increase new bugs, which as a user can be very frustrating.

Loving it. As much as I like Pixinsight, I have never really mastered or enjoyed DBE or ABE. GraXpert has been my goto and this just makes it better. I know processing is a key part of the astro imaging hobby, but anything which reduces the time i need to spend at the PC is aces in my book.

Hi, I've been trying to get mine to work but when I click calculate background I get "No file or directory found at
C\Users\labte\OneDrive\Desktop\bg_model" what does this mean?
Sounds like you don't have the bg_model directory in the same directory as the executable

Hi, what other files do you mean? You should only be able to dowload the 'bg_model' folder.
Yes, thats what I mean, there is the Exe File, then the BG-Model folder. Are those files in the BG-Model just needed to run the .exe file?@@steffen1181
@@OVRCOMEThe files in the bg_model folder are needed to run the AI method in GraXpert. For every other interpolation method, the exe is enough.
Doesn't work for me. I tried it on a L-eXtreme image and it took out a large part of the red nebulosity. The results in Siril were better where I placed just a few sample points manually.

Same directory and followed the video and still can't get it to work, ran updates on everything and no go. Anything else it could be?

@@DeepSpaceAstro no sir just hangs there, when I check task manager it shows not responding. Currently PC is core i-7 16gbs of memory, 1Tb of space

Hi, what operating system are you using and can you use any of the other interpolation methods, or does GraXpert not start at all?
@@steffen1181 windows 10 home and it doesn't run at all. It doesn't give any error codes to reference as well.

Change your settings in UA-cam. It's 1080p. I think there are some issues going on at UA-cam today
