Quickly becoming my favourite astro channel (along with Cuiv, Luke and Trevor!) Thanks for your really fantastic content - so clearly, quickly and eloquently explained too.
Thank you very much. Very handy, I try to do several field trips per year and here in South Australia mobile reception is sporadic to say the least out in the countryside (miles of dead zones). This is another option now available to me. Thank you very much for the info. Cheers 👍
Thanks Rich. Was finaly able to figure out from your video that I had to unzip the .xy files for all this to work!! In 2 months I am heading to an Arizona desert to capture photons. Now from the field I'll be able to plate solve and double check my object framing !
Rich thanks. Do you know if there is an external data base you can load that identifies PGC objects? When i use platesolver in SiriL it lists NGC object only. However if i have an image like Coma Cluster i known in PI it can identify and annotate the main objects including PGC… just wondered if there was a way to do this in SiriL with a downloaded database?
The devs responded and said it can be done manually and provided this link. siril.org/tutorials/photometry/#plate-solving. He also mentioned they'd consider adding it in a future release. Hope that helps.
@@DeepSpaceAstro thx but this tutorial is a about a technique for finding a known object in the star field. I am keen to find unknown objects (galaxies) identified and auto-annotated from the PGC just like the NGC process we routinely use. Back to my drawing board i guess… but thx again…
Hi Rich, I need some advice, I have taken some images of Carina nebula, I used 105 mm lens, iso 400 and I second exposures, when I auto stretch the screen just goes red, if I check out histogram the I can see the stars but they are very bright? Any idea?
That’s cool, thanks! In PCC, the force plate solving checkbox, I have noticed that I do not get rotation unless that is checked. What is your experience with this for orienting your image automatically with plate solving?
@@DeepSpaceAstro oh, perhaps. I’ll report it and see if it is an issue or just something odd with my environment or settings. Hope you all had a nice trip last week!
@@DeepSpaceAstro I finally got around to creating an issue on the Siril project and learned that the reason Flip was not working unless Force Plate Solve was checked was due to my images having already been solved during my session. If PS data exists on the header already, Siril will not solve again unless forced. Within scripts you may use mirrorx-bottomup and will only flip if needed.
I followed your Siril tutorials and used your scripts and my first set of data ever taken with a TEC cooled OSC after processing produced an image of exceptional beauty and detail.

Hey thanks! I'm honored to be ranked with those guys by you, although I feel I'm still way out of that league. Thanks again!

You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful.
You have the best tutorials of Siril on UA-cam.. ❤
Thanks so much!

Thanks, thanks, thanks! Excellent tutorial!

Good morning, no, I will give it a try. Thanks for your help 😃

I don't think so, but I sent the question to the devs. I'll let you know what they say.

Did you try using the link/unlink button next to AutoStretch?

I honestly never noticed. Maybe you found a bug?

@AstroAF Ah that makes sense. Thanks for reporting back
Thanks!
