A Mobile Egg Layer Coop
It’s late April of 2023 and I am tackling a task that I have been wanting to do for a long, long time now. It was time to get our laying hens in a mobile coop! When we started out I built a small, cute coop to help win my wife over to having chickens and because it would look nice, but now that we are beyond a normal sized backyard flock it was time to go bigger and go mobile.
Going mobile is important to me as I am focused on regenerative farming, and what that means is that I am concerned first and foremost about soil health because I know that it affects plant health, animal health, and eventually my (human) health since we are consuming animals and animal products from our own land. Instead of being a headache to deal with, we can use the chicken manure to fertilize our pastures and also use the hens for parasite and fly control. It is also more enjoyable and beneficial for the hens themselves because they have a more varied diet, they are more content, and they are constantly moved off of their own manure and away from parasites.
I enjoyed bringing you along with me today. God bless all of you and thanks for watching!
Tractor used in this video 1991 Cub Cadet 7275 (27 hp; hydrostatic; 4x4).

In 2016, we decided to move out of town with our two boys so that they could grow up outside, raising animals, working hard, and learning to love their family. I had the dream of starting a homestead, and that dream blended into starting a small farm. Some days it feels like we've bitten off more than we can chew, but there is always something interesting going on around here. We wouldn't trade our lives for anything now! Our videos show you what it looks like from day to day in our life. House and building projects, gardening, firewood, raising animals, hunting, fishing, gathering mushrooms, and much more.

Is Early Spring a Good Time to Mow Pastures?
Переглядів 399Рік тому
It’s early March of 2023 and I took a day off specifically to mow my pasture. It may not be the “prime time” everyone thinks of for mowing fields or pastures, but there are many benefits to knocking back overgrown fields before the growing season really takes off. Here are some: 1.) It allows new tender shoots/growth from the existing plants; 2.) It gives room for other varieties to grow (such ...

Part 2 of 2… In the winter of 2021, I had a whole log truck of firewood logs dropped off to my house to try to catch me up on a good pile of firewood. It was cheaper than ordering propane, but I never fully completed the task of cutting up all the firewood. How I Feed 11 Pigs and 50 Chickens on the Farm // Non-GMO or GMO?

Moving Pigs to Control Brush

In this episode we show the rotation of a group of pigs to a fresh forested/pastured paddock. These pigs are out enjoying what they love to do the most: root around and forage! They LOVE being free to do what they love on a fresh paddock on pasture or in the forest, and they are very very good at their job! I also love what these pigs are up to. They are helping me control invasive species that...

Pig Pasture Rotation // Not All Pork is Created Equal

We’ve begun work toward our long term plans to train the pigs to electric wire and then rotate them around the property. It will improve the property, improve their health, and improve the nutrient density of our meat we get back from them. First step, train them to electric wire inside of a physical fence. This way if they run through the wire (which they did) they can’t get away from you. Sec...

      @@PoplarRidge let me ask you. When I try to put the silicon piece in, it'll hold for a second but as I try to attach it to the other part, it keeps coming out. Any suggestions?

    • @PoplarRidge
      @PoplarRidge 22 дні тому

      @Ben-h3r if you’re trying to put the plastic piece inside of the eye on the cable it may need more force to get it to seat in there or you may need to try one of the other pieces in the pack. If you’re trying to put it on the post or nub on the transmission it could also be the wrong piece. I’m not sure without looking at it. Hopefully you get it figured out.

    With all the financial uncertainty in today's economy, this saved me hundreds of dollars. I went to take my kid to school, and this happened to me. After a quick google search, I found this video. Off to Auto Zone I went to buy the exact part you mentioned. It was a little challenging to get the bushing into the cable housing, even though I used the C-Clamp and definitely tough getting the cable onto the transmission peg, I ended up using some vice grip pliers to help get the bushing onto the peg because it's gives you a lot more pressure. I sent $12 when it could have cost me several times over that. Thank you!!!
