Installing the 8' GP-15 antenna at the side of my house.
man, how you chose signal frequency to input into the SWR meter?
0:53 An antenna itself cannot increase power. It can increase directionality which can extend its range, but the antenna does not create more power. Power comes from the radio not the antenna. The higher gain antenna concentrates the RF signal to a narrower degree angle; a good example is a Yagi. With antenna charts and antenna software we see many benefits of what gain provides. Because its RF signal is a more concentrated degree angle than a lower gain antenna the higher gain antenna will reach further than an omni directional lower gain antenna. Think of a Maglite flashlight, twist its head it concentrates the light to a narrower beam reaching further however, the opened all the way or closed to a tight beam the light output remains the same. Choose your antenna wisely. High gain will be much better on long open roads, across the flats, areas with minimal obstructions, and the like. In cities, urban areas, woodlands, forests, and the like, high gain antenna does not perform as well as a low gain antenna. In those locations folks switching from a high gain antenna to a low gain experienced considerably better Tx and Rx. Again, antenna does not increase RF power, the transceiver's power is set. The antenna directionally concentrates the RF signal to a narrower angle helping it reach farther. Higher gain more directional more distance, lower gain more spread out less distance. Again, the power coming from the transceiver to the antenna is the same.
This is the best video I have found very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this great comparison video. Well done.
Why dont the impedence show on uhf
Three years later and this video is really helping new GMRS guys get started and be successful understanding in GMRS fun , so many UA-cam radio guys just want to review the latest transceivers . I was measuring and setting my SWR on a mobile radio today , and I could not figure out why I could not get less than a 1.7 SWR . I watched your video and now I know that 1.7 is the exact dbi loss of signal from my 16' of RG 8A/U cable going to my 6db Midland antenna. Thank You for helping me .
Thank you! A very nice presentation.
Thank you, It has been very useful to me. Blessings.
You, as most people, say what SWR is and how it's measured, but do not mention the fact that standing waves that are reflected are not lost power. These waves continue back and forth until they are eventually radiated. This happens millions of times per second.
IF YOU CANT GET one radio right why take on three family service and G M R S shair the 22 channels channels 1 through ch 14 are family service radio no licensee needed power out put is limited to 1/2 watt F C C rules and reg's G M R S is 5 watts and shear channels 15 through 22 as off repeater channels G M R S channels are the same channels but this set are repeater capable of you where to get on these channels you will trip the repeater but get in to the repeater I am a licensee holder for G M R S radio

SORRY there IS only one power setting for G M R S that is 5 watts for that radio and I run 45 watts on base radio

Runte Landing
what you have is a 1/2 of a watt child locater and that is it one mile and your done.
and that goes for all F R S radios that is why you run out at 2 miles.
rember this is a four old radio radios in 2024 are 1/2 of a watt for family service with all the privecy codes which are not privet thay just lock up the radio so no one can talk to you as your radio are coded but thay can still hear you. I Owen rugged radio's they have no privet codes just 5 watts going in to a repeater at 60 watts then back out on second channel just trying to help.
comon realy a three year old radio rules have changed and new radio's have come out to replace them ok here we go. by the way I am licensed for G M R S my radio is also F R S.
please don't mix in the codes with the channels there are only 22 channels in F R S land then you say privecy channels and thay are not privet your two radio's will seak out each other be couse thay share the same code every one can hear you just not talk to you and why talk about a radio that is four years old thing's have changed may not even being sold anymore
The 1000 is still sold new as of today!!!
and let's not for get you really have a low power F R S radio rated at 1/2 watt and 1/4 of a mile range do to power and the antenna as mandated by the F C C radio service KNOW if you bought a C D ROM down loaded it in a conputer hucked up the radio to computer in staled the tower in put tone received your license call sign then you and I can talk to each other.
I have said it over and over the radio runs on a 1/2 watt transmiter and has a quter mile range take to plates the plates represent 1/4 mile if one plate does not over lap the other you are out of range I am W R X N 824 from minnesota.
So how can I talk using (FRS) BF888S and (GMRS) UV9G?

Is there a lockout feature on this light?
Great information. Thanks for sharing and also for putting up a webpage with the charts that you use.
Best explanation for on the GMRS waivers/conditions I have found.
Thanks

Ahh I see now why many radio operators damage there Nano meter
thank you so much this was incredibly helpful information you have no idea
I may self was a dummie once brok into CB and moved up
you know that the securty codes are the bigest hang up remove them that dont work any way I have three radio's from a off brand thay do not have them just 22 channels pick one and go.
what was your range test at
1/4 gutter of a mile or less or line of site.
ok that is about the end.
sorry pal G M R S has two different power 5WATT on hand held's and 45 watt on base
G M R S is 5 watts on portable and my base is 45 watts and requires a license for that 35.00 covers all family members and last's 10 years which is on my F C C license and my call sign is W R X N 824. and I talk to Chicago twice a month on a lower link,
HOW DID YOU TUNE THE ANTENNAE
there is no 50 channels in are radio's
This is specific for Midland radio. They are nor "real" channels. They are each one of the standard 22 channels with preset CTCSS or DCS codes.
I under stand my radios are used in off road atv' 4 wheelers and are cart radio's are 45 watt and 5 watt hand held's on a repeter network at 20 miles ond no extra buttons eather
ok do the 22 channels then do the codes that do not do any thing but stop people from talking to you that's it you guys get on here dont read theb and all the crap on the midland box is lies becouse thay don't care just sell sell I have a license and don't have any codes on my radio as thay are used by people with off road toys I run a 45 watt radio for base and do 20 miles and talk to chicago ILL. on a link.
@@personalradiofun526 thay are the same channels you jest get 150 way's to mix thing's up on all 22 channels that is all by the way I own a licensee radio station on G M R S and this is not the last guy I will get strate as he did not read the book.
@@personalradiofun526 I ave the same radio channels and security codes in my radio there are only 22 channels in family service 8 family sevice channels are G M R S off repeater channels and 8 G M R S in the repeater channels 15 through 22 I have a licensee and that is the way it work's W R N 824
Do i need to get a FCC license for a gxt midland radio model gxt1000G
It is a GMRS radio because the highest power is 2.8 watts. The FRS limit is 2.0 watts.
limets on G M R S is 5 watts hand held and 45 watts on base. 2.8 and 2.0 are family service watts out put.
G M R S is 5 watts on a hand held and 40 to 50 are base stations.
sorry G M R S is 5 watts on you portable yes you need a license as of 06/03/2023
he is wrong family service is rated at half a watt on the G M R S side your at 5 watt's I run a 45 watt base with licensee for it and do 20 miles off a radio tower.
Wjat does all the power high low for?? Im new at all this
F R S is low power G M R S is high power 2 watts f r s and 45 watts for G M R S and I have a license for it this is state side
there is no more high or low power.
nothing it went away new F C C rules for F R S all 22 channels are 11/2 watt channels 15 through 22 are really off repeater channels so if you what you is the police it is not them but us useing are call sign
as of 2024 the only power change is all 22 channels of family service are at a half watt only G M R S is 5 watts on hand held and I use a 45 watt base and own a licensee for that be safe have fun.
reprient F R S is low power half a watt G M R S is ht hand held is 5 watts and 45 watts on base and mine are not Midland eather there Brand X
Where does the 2.5 multiplier come from?
I have the same antenna and similar set up but I have to keep it much lower because of my HOA... Do you see any issues if my radials extend under my soffit and gutter? They end about 6, inches from the brick on my house. Will this cause any issues?
The gutter is what would give you problems. Metal in the area of the ground plane and radiator can cause "reflection". You should find an SWR meter to test it.
@@personalradiofun526 thank you!!! How much free standing area would you suggest?? Or is it all test and see type of thing?
Instead of Wouxun software, try Chirp Next with KG-UVD1P settings. The freqs won't default back to factory. The 805G GMRS model can be programmed similarly.
Note that the Wouxun KG-805M radio has a channel numbering system that is different from many other MURS radios (e.g. Btech MURS radio). Wouxun's channels 1 and 2 correspond to 154.570 MHz and 154.600 MHz, respectively. On business radios, these channels are known as "Blue Dot" and "Green Dot" channels, respectively, and are more likely to be used by nearby businesses. So it would be more advisable to rotate between channels 3-5 (not 1-3) on this particular model. In contrast, on the Btech MURS radio, the "dot" channels are channels 4 and 5, and rotating between channels 1-3 would make perfect sense.
Good catch. I did use the three 151.x MHz channels. Also when programming the radios it wants to default back to the (channel 1 & 2 is 154.x MHz) and cannels 3,4 & 5 are 151.x frequencies) scheme no matter what you put into the computer.
@@personalradiofun526 You can try changing the stock channel scheme by using Chirp-Next instead of the Wouxun software. The 805M is not on the Wouxun list in Chirp-Next, but you can select the kg-uvd1p model. It works. The freq-channel combination did not default to the stock scheme in my hands. Actually, the 805G GMRS radio can also be programed in Chirp-Next by selecting kg-uvd1p.
