CAUGHT in A MASSIVE STORM trying to DESCEND from 13,000FT in Jeep Gladiator 4x4s!
HighGrounders, welcome back to another adventure to the top!
In todays adventure we're going to 13,000 feet over Engineer Pass in Colorado and as we start to descend we hit a massive storm that makes the sketchy shelf roads even more sketchy. This one took a lot of energy to focus on and there were multiple moments we almost slid off a cliff.
I hope you enjoy it. Se you at the top!

👋 HighGrounders, welcome back to another adventure to the top. This is the first of the Colorado series, for which I drove 22 hours to meet up with @wethepeople4x4 and spent a week exploring some of the highest elevation 4x4'ing you can do in NORTH AMERICA! You all know how much I love to get to the top of big mountains, so this trip was something I have been dreaming about for a while and I'm ...

👋 HighGrounders, welcome to another adventure to the top. This one is a little longer because I wanted to be true to the real events. By the time we began actually summiting it was very late in the day, we were very tired and honestly we had gotten a little lost, taking the harder route. It was difficult to tell that story genuinely without showing the earlier parts of the day, where we covered...

👋 HighGrounders, welcome to another adventure to the top. In today's video we're heading up to a well known Glacier that has been filmed many times by many content creators and I'm honoured to be able to film my own experience and share my thoughts on not only the beautiful area but what it means to have the opportunity to film and tell stories about these very special locations in BC. 👋 HighGrounders, sorry but no premier on this one. This is one that I'd have a hard time watching live with all of you. 👋 HighGrounders - In recent times, we've lost many of BC's best fire towers. We all watched live as Nahatlatch burned, recently the 4wdabc facebook page was full of sorrow when we lost Lavina, but not much has been said about Baldy which recently was under significant threat of fire as well. Many dismissed it due to the lack of tree cover within proximity. I hope this is true and not just some ...

👋 HighGrounders, you are in for a treat on this one. I decided to pack 3 EPIC summits into a single video for the TRIPLE CROWN of summits. This is Day 3 and 4 of an 18 day mega rally with Gord and Ken. I can confidently say there is no other place in BC that you can get this much alpine action of the most insane mountains, in such a small area. I'm so stoked with how this video turned out and t...

🫡HighGrounders, welcome to the story of apocalypse ridge. A lesser know summit and the first summit from the mega rally I recently did across British Columbia over 17 days. In total we did about 7 summits during this trip and I’m hoping to share a video for each of them but due to some camera challenges I’m not sure yet if that will happen. 👋 HighGrounders, welcome to part 3, the finale of the Baja Series. This was the most intense part of the trip overall and also probably the most scenic and amazing one to edit. This one is also longer than I expected, but it's worth it, I promise you. If you watch the whole way, there's a surprise ending. Comment BAJA if you dream of going to Baja. Something I want to say is that Baja Mexico is an incredible safe location. I...

Great video I look forward to starting my around the world trip leaving Whiterock and will definitely head down through the Baja as I work my way through Mexico Super glad you enjoyed your 40th

@@HighGroundByNightfall I had no idea that you were so close to White rock lol I am having my jeep upgraded with an Alucap camper as we speak, I want to document my trip on UA-cam but I find it more daunting than planning my journey lol
@@craigharrington4731 yeah I bought my truck from Kevin at white rock. Welcome to alucab club! where are you doing the alucab? Capit?
No the whole build is being done by Westcoast Offroaders I have been working closely with them since I bought my jeep back in August

Sorry I missed the premiere, I am watching from my camp site up in my gladiator right now. What an adventure, gotta make it to Colorado some day 😊
We missed you! Damn. Watching an alucab gladi from an alucab can gladi? That’s inception.
The sights! Holy heck I want to get to Colorado!
Yeah it’s pretty sick but honestly just wait till you see the rest of sights I have coming for this trip. This was just the first day hahaha.
That golden stump/hill by the lake is a great spot. Love the trail. Color grading is on the upside a little bit i think but nonetheless, an awesome adventure. Can't wait for the next one.
Yeah amazing spot. I tried a new approach on the colour grading bc a lot of the original footage was feeling flat and I agree it came across a bit heavy in the final export. Trial and error. I’ll tone it back a bit. Thanks for the feedback & for watching.
Ooo Colorado baby! So good!
Next year we gotta take the team!
I hope you enjoy the beginning to the Colorado series! Leave a comment if you want me to keep posting them 🫡
Is that a little bit of a “beef” with the story till now?
@lubawinski Never heard of him 🤣 I’m joking. Why would you ask me that? It’s weird but ok… If you look at Shaun’s past videos from last summer/winter you’ll see I brought him out on a big trip in the summer and then I went and supported him for his Patreon run shortly after in the winter. Would I do that if I have a beef? Clearly not. I hope that is direct enough. Now to be extra clear so there’s no mistakes about this… This video speaks on topics affecting all creators in the genre not just one. If you are referring specifically to the “bridge incident” Shaun wasn’t even involved in that but we are both individually friends with those who were and to be more clear this isn’t a beef with them either. I talked to them all directly before I posted this video and they all gave me their ok to post my thoughts about it. They know what my content is about. My videos aren’t about click farming and clouting views over drama or beef homie. I make video to tell stories about topics that try to leave things better than I found them. That’s actually what this video is all about. Ironic you’d ask me that here! I’m making videos so my son can watch them someday and learn lessons from them about using any “influence” he might be given to be a good person and a solid recreational steward in the outdoors community. I’m also actively involved in 4wdabc and I assertively prioritize community over clout. I have no interest in turning social media into a career. I’ve declined thousands in sponsorship offers as my way of ensuring my incentives are in line and values are uncompromised. I go out with almost anyone who asks and regularly guide out people new to 4x4 on BC for free. I don’t believe in velvet ropes when it comes to the outdoors & I won’t tolerate it in the people I associate with. So, no - I’m not beefing with anyone. Least of all “influencers”. That would be a waste of this energy & integrity. I prefer to spend it on creating content that is my absolute best attempt to set a better example for my son, at very least metaphorically if not literally. That said I’m also fully aware that some people do not like me because I don’t bend a knee at the alter of clout and I’m fine with it. I hope you follow along anyway ❤
Wow! That Doctor is sicked! Hope to see him next summer!
Call the doctor this lake is sick 🤮
Did someone cut that huge diameter tree off the trail to the upper lake?
@michaelmerriam7606 Good question. I’m not sure I saw it so I don’t know. It was pretty late when we got there and we left pretty early.
Highly, Highly recommend having at least one hand held radio ... helps to maintain comms for someone scouting ahead on foot and/or spotting. We also find it allows more precision in spotting when things get sketchy. Great video ...
Good tip! We definitely carry hand held but it was easier to just communicate through line of sight here for the most part! Glad you enjoyed the video!!! ❤

@@Jacare1973 thank you 🙏
Dude, awesome video. But dude, I hate to break it to you, you don't have a storytelling voice. Please get someone else to do the voice overs. Other than that it was great to watch.
Hahaha not a story telling voice? What’s exactly is a story telling voice? Do you mean like that lame AI voice actor stuff people are doing now?
It actually is our right to goto these places, our birthright by being citizens of this country. I understand why people say its a privilege, but it really is a right. Begging the govt to let us access/keep accessing places that industry has had their way with needs to stop.
I agree that it’s our right to access public land. In this area, it’s less an issue of begging and more an issue that people run to the government to help them gatekeep areas. Most people don’t understand that the government are biggest threat to our rights to access public land.
@HighGroundByNightfall I know the area, and am glad it's still as open as it is for the time being. The begging is more of an Alberta perspective, they've closed down almost all the good trails in the southern half of the province.
This is true.
There is a big fuss about the Sketchy Bridge these days?
Yeah it’s getting removed now. If you google for adventure taco + name of location and 2024 you’ll find a pretty decent account of the events.
Your video was recommended to me because of your Tread Lightly approach. I really like your drone angles and the fact you didnt gloss over the cabin details. I like your message but find this video a little bit preachy. Just my $0.02. Kudos for producing these videos and putting yourself out there for guys like me to scrutinize🙂
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed the tread lightly content. I get the feedback about being preachy. This is something I’m trying to be cognizant of. I am trying to walk a careful line where I use this content to try to share a meaningful message that goes beyond just simple drone shots etc. tbh I make these videos not for people on UA-cam I don’t know but so my son will some day watch them and learn some lessons. Most of my videos in the last year deal with topics outside of wheeling metaphorically. It’s more about personal values, growth, dealing with hardships, all the things I want him to learn how to deal with as he gets older. In this case, bc of the recent controversy I did get a bit more intense about it in places, mostly bc I was feeling passionate about it so I can recognize your point. That said, I don’t know that I will stop doing this. It gives this content meaning for me. Otherwise I’m just driving up a mountain begging for views and tbh I don’t really care about views or sponsors. I want to use my platform to tell a story that gets people thinking about life and nature and ultimately marry that with acts of responsible recreation. I hope you’ll come on this journey with me as I learn to find my voice. I’m still very new to this and promise I’ll do my best.
Honnoring this special place would be not filming it so it stays special and open.
Sorry I completely disagree with your point of view & the basis of your assertion on this topic. Filming a location is not what gets it closed. Teaching people to gate keep places so they can be destroyed out of the public eye does. It’s also very pretentious. You don’t own public land. It’s for everyone and filming is a way to educate the public on how to respect these places. We can disagree on this respectfully. I wish you the best with that approach. It simply doesn’t work. Ask any 4wd association.
@@HighGroundByNightfallI'm sure its an unspoken rule in the 4x4 community not to just openly tell people on mass about these gems. Posting a video with a high level of detail is not just telling a few friends. Its taking a local gem and making it highly visible.
@@follow_fraser3081 I hear your concern but again I don’t agree with your point of view. Gatekeeping locations is not an unspoken rule uniformly in the 4x4 community. It’s just one for people people don’t want to share public lands and that in fact is the worst possible approach to stewardship and why we have major associations like 4wdabc who do this instead of local gatekeepers. The approach of gatekeeping public lands is exactly what caused the recent controversy this video is speaking of that has led to the bridge being removed yesterday and today. So now you don’t have to worry. You won’t be able to get up there unless you have 40” tires & a 4.5” lift anyway. Thank god for keeping local gems hidden right? 🤦
I’d also like to note, as someone with big enough tires and lift to get up there with or without the bridge, I’m not in favour of gatekeeping it so only large rigs can reach this area. I believe public lands are for all and if you can find locations you deserve to try to go. Feel free to watch my other videos on these topics if you would like to understand my pov more. I recommend dichotomy ridge as one that specifically speaks on this issue from personal experiences.
@@HighGroundByNightfall dude. I've told many people of this spot - face to face, over the phone. In a controlled manner. Showed them where it is and what to expect. I'm pointing out that channels who put out videos to the world are giving spots too much exposure. You're just framing my Cristism as gatekeeping and attacking that. The last two times I've been up there there has been convoys of over ten vechiles at a time. It wasn't like that before.

Come ooooon....this is totally melodramatic. The spot you camped on the coast is super well known and accessed consistently by locals with passenger vehicles. The "cartel" incident was about 200+ miles north btw. How you going to navigate? Its called the pacific ocean and a map...hard to miss it. Is this the Baja everybody talked about? No, because you're too worried about making your video, fiddling with your gear, and wearing your overlanding costume. Lame
