Rita Hunter - A Tall Poppy In Australia - Part Three - Conclusion
And now, the conclusion to this 3 part series on "what happened to "Rita's Australian Career". It pains me to tell you that, as I have gone through her paperwork in these last few years, I found a draft of a letter that was sent to The AO management, begging for work and her thought at considering asking for work as a chorister. Yes, it was that bad! My parents had the occasional argument, as most married couples do. However, even though they remained married, the strain that this situation put on us as a family was immense and fractured our little family. Divorce was mentioned twice in my lifetime with Mum and Dad. Both times were as a result of what happened here in Australia and her career. She had moments of glory. Mere moments but her career here in Australia never really recovered. By today's standards, she was cancelled. The "faith" that is mentioned by management was performances of Elektra in 1985 (2 performances in Melbourne and 1 performance in Sydney - Sydney were to have 2 performances but one of them was cancelled by management) and Turandot in 1988. To the best of my knowledge......that was the last of this "faith" that they had in her. She died with wounds that never healed and Dad died with the hatred for the damage they did to her. I have carried both my Mother's wounds and endeavoured to let go of that hatred ever since.

RARE - Rita Hunter Sings A Top D - Norma Act 1 Scene 8 & 9 The MET 1975
Переглядів 2,8 тис.21 день тому
There is a story behind the unique Top D that Rita sings at the end of this. Due to a very busy schedule, at the time, she was mortified to find out that she had forgotten a dear friends' birthday. "I am so sorry. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?" To which her friend said "how about a Top D at the end of act one" "DONE!" said Rita So what you have here is her birthday present to...

So now that you have seen Part One in this series, you will now understand HOW a light started to get shined on the problem. Not that it ever got resolved to any great degree but at least you know. Part Three (the conclusion) will address some hard hitting questions with Rita having the final say. So what happened when Rita came out to Australia? Why did she suddenly disappear from the stage? Here we have a very special presentation. The entire Parkinson episode that my Mother was in. Historically speaking, this had to be uploaded in it's entirety. Anything less would go against my very reason for having this channel in the first place. Below will...

Who sang Pollione when Corelli walked out? Having sung Calaf with Nilsson I can't imagine that Miss Hunters voice intimidated him, but this was rather late in his career. High praise from Miss Hunter though. Her voice and diction always clear!

The treatment of your mother was appalling. It was cheap, nasty and low by people who could not hold a candle to her. People who put politics above the music itself are just charlatans. I was mortified when I learned who was partly responsible. Nothing, however, will take away your mother's place in posterity. It's great we at least have recordings by which to still hear true singing.

Brava Rita. How many other sopranos could sing both Norma and Brunnhilde in the same season at such a phenomenally high standard. You probably have to go back to the early days of Callas. That’s not bad company to keep. Thank you for sharing this with us. What a shame it was a video performance. Encore. ❤❤❤

It has not changed, its still a nasty cut throat business. Sadly voices cannot cope these days and only last a few years. Gone are the big singers who can sustain the big roles which again is very sad. Opera productions are set in the weirdest of settings and are a complete turn off. Bring back the voices and the old traditions before we start the process of stopping attending opera.
