Fantom Facts Machine Dyno. Brushed motor RC dyno!
Im obsessed with the RC10s! Just finished up the rere Jay Halsey edition and it was a blast to build! Ive had my dads original A stamp gold pan he gave me years ago i tore down and cleaned up but getting to build one out of the box was a completely different experience lol
@Barncat01 I need to get a rere... Been a very long time since I built a nib rc10.
Traxxas stock, plastic, big-bore shocks are great for the price and will really help cars like this.
I had to get the upgrade moter n shred every gear in its ass 🤣
Is there a brushed motor dyno I can get now that supports modern software and computers? I don't feel like having to find old hard drives and os systems to run the dyno. I would think they made a modern one because brushed motors seem to be fairly common still in RC cars
You could install receiver batteries in the Hot Shot & the Fox, you have to sacrifice the figure head but with my Hot Shot I went to good o'l Radio Shack and bought 2 triple A battery packs and hooked the two together making it a 6V batt pack and installed it where the figure head go's pain in the as* but it worked man the 7.2 drive pack batt ran for about 20 mins. Nice video, Ralphie
What is the black tubing stuff you used? Cars tend to go over edges of my burm so maybe black tube would help keep cars on track(beginner barriers? Lol)
@FAKE-NAME It's corrugated land scaping/drainage tube. Most home improvement stores have it in stock.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC random question...ever consider lighting for your track so you can play longer in the winter when it gets dark really early. I'm really considering it for my track the last 2 rc play sessions we ran out of light before we ran out of batteries to drain. My main issue is closest outlet is a good 100'from the track.
@FAKE-NAME Working on a rebuild this spring.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC decided to get flood lights with red and green bulbs to use for Xmas but come boxing day I'll swap out bulbs to white and move lights to posts around the track edges. Using "4 inch pencil poles" with 2 pieces of 2x4s on top to mount the lights to.
I test my quads in backyard before taking them to the bush. My quads tore up edges of yard and started creating burms( was basically doing laps of edges of my yard almost a large circle). So a little bit of rakeing later it's now a groomed rc almost circle track with burmed corners. Quads I ran in yard where just lil 110cc and 150cc atvs...can buy a used China quad cheaper than a new rototiller so maybe consider them a good option...plus you get to tear up the lawn and have fun doing it. Can either go crazy and do doughnuts everywhere then rake or run a natural feeling track pattern and let the ruts start to make the track for you then rake it and add jumps. Just got my family into racing rcs we run 5x wltoys 124017's and one wltoys 124019(beginner car) so total of 6 cars.
Could never figure out how to get the camber out of those front wheels on my midnight pumpkin.
@@Satray01 Some 3d options now a days to fix that.
The Wild One has to much toy like quality, I had the Fox in 86 and have the Nova Fox I think it's 2015 now!
@@ralphhowing3473 Absolutely more scale. Will say it drove better than expected.
I have some kyosho parts that I will send you for free if you are interested . Tires rims that are not going to work on my yellow ultima ii. Just let me know where to send them art keep up the great videos.
Kyosho ultima ii yellow one.
❤looking to rebuild the one I have can't find parts anywhere near me can you please help. Art
@artnutting893 I have only been able to find parts on ebay and assorted Facebook groups unfortunately. Part of the fun for me has always been the hunt though.
How you been, miss the time attacks, which one you like better this is the ultima jj
Just finished my first rebuild and put a 17.5t brushless in it and love how it handles with the 6gear trans
@@dustyw That's awesome!
Excellent video, I'm just watching some videos, I'm thinking of making a track in my patio and I want to clear up some doubts, what height did you use the artificial grass? In the market I see many heights but it seems to me that the one you use is the smallest, on the other hand On the other hand, do you think it is necessary to make the dirt track? I mean, I live in a country where the roofs of the houses are flat and I will do it on my roof. I have 120 m2 to make the track and how is it on my roof? house I was thinking of doing the entire circuit with artificial grass. By the way, what should I take into account for the outdoor rug?
@erickhuntergames It's just (local to me) home store stuff (maybe 7ish mm). Was whatever was inexpensive. My next track will be 90% turf with maybe a small dirt section. The brown stuff looks nice but is a pain to maintain. Rug is just outdoor thin carpet. Appreciate it!
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC Thank you very much for the prompt response, in fact I just have that question, because I am also thinking about making it only with artificial grass since here in my country, the houses have large roofs and I am thinking of doing it on my roof, but I think that since it is Pure artificial grass wouldn't behave in the same way as cars, or what do you think? I want to use it to run my typhon grom =D. By the way, they sell me 8 mm grass here and I think I'll go for that since it's also the cheapest =D.
@@erickhuntergames The grip is great as long as you get the short pile stuff. Even better on office carpet.
what do you lube the diff with?
@@SeeShelby Been s bit....but I think I used Associsted diff lube.
As I say, if I don't build it I don't want it!!!!!
I have a Madcap which I bought used from a model shop in the early 90's. First things I did was to fit a Technigold and oil shocks. I still have it but it doesn't see much action these days, I'd rather bash up my WLToys cars, a lot cheaper to replace parts.
Podría enseñar la pista entera y decir medidas exactas etc...? Porque me gustaría construir una en mi jardin
I was going to buy the frog used in decent shape for $135 is that a good deal?
@chrisboroff3546 The rere kits are fairly identical to the original. It would need to be pretty fresh for me to spend that on a Frog. So I guess it depends on how bad you want one.
Great video man!! Definitely gave me a direction to go next spring.
@adampearson5286 Awesome! Good luck with the build my friend.
Do you have a link for the plastic sheet you use ramp?
@radripperaj I don't unfortunately. My local Home Depot has it with their peg board (in the lumber section). It's mainly used in bathrooms/washrooms.
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC thank you for the fast reply. Your backyard track is so cool. I am hoping to do something like that soon. What is the width and length of the track? Also, how wide are the lanes?
What a cool car!! ❤
@@dinohuntr851 Thanks so much!
I bet your wife just loves it....hahahaha
@milesonewheelwinter Thanks...She does. Enjoys racing the cars with us too. Great family fun for all.
Back in the day I built an rc10 with an MIP transmission and a JRx2 front end with a 30 degree kick up rather than the losi 20 degree. It was fantastically fast and won me many races across the SF bay area. About a year later they built the car for Masami with the longer front arms.
@jongreenhalgh Dang...you were ahead of the game! That MIP trans was an amazing bit.
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC I’ve still got the trans on my gold pan ;)
Back in the day I had a hornet and my mate had the falcon. The falcon was supposed to be a much better car, and maybe on a bigger track it would've been. But in our gardens it felt heavy and slow in comparison. The hornet is so simple and light. Also the suspension was way too stiff on his falcon. But the hornet rolls easily if you're not careful. Good times
@hubdeep9452 The turning radius on the Falcon stinks for sure. The simplicity of the Hornet is it's greatest strength for sure.
If your tires are rock hard soak em in wd40 overnight.
Im looking forward to the Hornet EVO. Are you getting one? It would be interesting time attack video.
@@torredchc1768 Could happen at some point for sure.
My first real rc car! Found it for $47 in an rc airplane mag. Saved up for it and my uncle built it. Drove it till the front tires split. Loved that buggy.
@@Gumbputt One of the best!

I am a proud Pennsylvanian myself. I haven’t been to rc misfits… but I have been to park lane hobbies in Pottstown.
@@Nlangkirby135 Heard good things about that place. Hope to visit this winter.
NEATO NEATO NEATO!!!!!! Great to see you out n about!!!!!
Nice 👍 Is that a 58001 Porsche 934 on the right 🧐 ?
@coygtrc Yes...check out our Porsche video we did for a detailed look.
Found this out the hard way and to my cost, when very small splashes of either fuel, or wet exhaust filth spoiled my beautiful candy blue paint job on my 1/8th Tamiya Mini 🤦🏻♂️ I had painted it with either Pactra or Custom Colour and only found out after it was finished that the brand I used did their own aerosol nitro fuel barrier to protect paint. I had no idea how vital it was. After only a couple of runs the paintwork had blotches. Needless to say I bought the protector, but I’m still yet to sit down and mask the whole Damn body up YET again so I can treat it ☹️🤦🏻♂️ It’s just languished in an RC bag for years. So always use paint protector on nitro cars fellas 👍🏻
Super cool!!!!
Nice selection/collection 😎👌🏻 You’ve done really well to track down all three. 👍🏻 I only have the 935 (plus a static 934) so far. Do you think you’ll keep collecting the early cars like the Countach, the LB Celica and the P34 ?
@SANDSCORCHER In a dream world I would have them all..lol. I appreciate it very much.
You and me both😆👍🏻 Re your dried tires, in case you’re not aware, a good way to revive them a little is to remove, clean with a mild warm soapy solution and then store overnight in a polythene bag in glycerine👍🏻 Wipe off and refit and it gives them a bit more life if you catch them soon enough. 😎
🤙👍
Awesome baby I love it. From pa myself
Awesome. Thanks for sharing bud. We don't have anything like that around here
Very, very nice!
Always good to see the VBRC out enjoying RC life 🙌🏻
Good to see your still active! Waiting to see some more laps and tuning! Will you be getting a hornet evo?
@rccrazer Have a lot of home stuff going on rn. Hopefully back up and running by the winter.
You’re neighbors are ass holes and petty as fuck if they gon whine bout some lil rc track on your own property not like it’s a full blown motorbike track L neighbors but cool track I love it
Traxxas Bullet was a great racing buggy back in the 80s!
Great stuff man.... Do you have another channel?? I watch another dude (way different topic than RC) and he sounds just like you...
@UncleBobsRC Appreciate it brother. I do not. What is the channel?
U should compared the cars how they came. Thats what you would have got when buying them so thats how they should be compared.. IMHO 😊😊
@MrBoomtheroom Would have been an absolute blow out with silver can vs technigold. This was more of a challenge of suspension. One thing for sure is....it's been our most controversial video.
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC would like to se the bigwig vs supershot vs boomerang in factory form
Very cool video, to make it a 100% fair comparison were you running the same motor, battery, gearing, and tires on the cars?
@teamcrc1 Yes...everything was swapped over. Appreciate it very much.
