dropped the FT991A off at the parcel shop and the long walk back has angered me greatly
I have dropped the FT991A at the parcel shop, which required a bus trip to Richmond spending my last £2, so I have to make a long walk back home.
on this journey I was horrified to see potholes everywhere and now believe with much certainty that this caused at least the track rod end failure on my car, this means that in my eyes @northyorksc are 100% liable for the damage and repairs to my car for failing to keep roads to a high standard, since it's predecessor and the district councils ceased to exist on the 1st April last year things have only got worse in North Yorkshire, across the county line in Darlington roads are much better standard.
I will properly rage about this later of course
I was also running APRS to ensure that I can be tracked in case something goes bad during my long walk home.
at this point I have had enough of @northyorksc and that my council tax money is wasted and not any value for money

Local range test of the Motorola GP340Ex
Переглядів 18714 годин тому
I have had a Motorola GP340Ex for a while now as you know but one of the things I didn't do with it was a range test, now I have been able to do so. The GP340Ex is only able to output 1 watt due to the certification given to it, unlike a regular GP340 which can do 4 watts at full power, also I used a compromise antenna in the form of the copper tape antenna used for PMR446 which has remained on...
PNI PMR R40 Pro PMR446 radios

Back in May I took delivery of a pair of PNI R40 Pro PMR446 radios that had a bit of a familiar look to them, a familiarity that went right down to the programming of the radios by computer The radios are a pair of 16 channel PMR446 approved radios, channels 1-8 are programmed as the first 8 PMR446 channels without CTCSS, 9-16 are programmed as above but with CTCSS of 114.8Hz set, so they can b...
A sacrifice must be made, I have to sell my Yaesu FT991A

My car is fixed and has a valid MOT but to pay for it I must part with my Yaesu FT991A, the car is far more important and I can get another HF rig another time. Replacing the speaker in a York JCB-861
Переглядів 90День тому
I have had a York JCB-861 lying around for a while that has had to have some work done to get it into a much more usable state, it has had a broken core replaced, a transmitter tune up, a receiver tune up and now the speaker has been replaced, the original speaker fitted to this radio was open circuit, so rather than scrap the speaker I reused the terminals off it to fit to the replacement loud...
Connecting a cheap Chinese mixer to the Yaesu FT-991A
Переглядів 1,1 тис.14 днів тому
In looking for a better way to feed audio from radios into the camera than using a microphone I dug out my old cheap Chinese mixing desk that can run off a USB power supply, I plugged this into the desktop computer so had to use OBS to take a feed from a camera as well as the audio feed for the actual test, the audio feed was done over USB in this video however the mixer has an analogue output ...
Disabling lone worker mode on Motorola GP3x0 handhelds (re-upload in better quality)

I was using my Motorola GP340Ex to test the transmit and receive of my now very much underused and surplus QYT KT-8900D after reprogramming it (for 2-metres on that radio I used my Wouxun KG-UV6D to test it as this and the Motorola were the only two handhelds I had to hand at the time). Afterwards I had left the GP340Ex powered on when after a while it sounded a loud tone which I thought was th...
A replacement windscreen mount of sorts for the control panel of my Yaesu FTM-400XDE
Переглядів 16321 день тому
the windscreen mount for my FTM-400's control panel completely failed a week or so ago so /m operation on 2-metres and 70cm has not been possible, so I picked up a phone mount from B&M for £9 and it seems to fit just fine. I can't confirm if this works with other Yaesu radios with detachable or remote control panels but it certainly works with the FTM-400s, both the XD and D versions as the con...
TTI TCB550 modified to drive deviation meter... update
Переглядів 92Місяць тому
so an update for the TCB550s modification and the device it is driving, all seems to be working ok. The deviation meter was complete yesterday, though there was a magic smoke incident, my fault for poking at it while it was on with a metal object, it blew a veroboard track like a fuse when it went pop so a blob of solder has since fixed that and a fuse holder will be added when possible. The ra...
modifying my TTI TCB550 to drive a deviation meter from a discriminator tap
Переглядів 173Місяць тому
One of the few devices I do not possess is a deviation meter and my TinySA is far too slow measuring deviation so after a little bit of searching online I found a project by an Australian ham for one that uses an FM receiver with a discriminator tap as the audio feed rather than through the normal audio chain. So to this end I modified my TTI TCB550 with a discriminator tap from one of the ICs ...
The internal adjustments of the Moonraker FA5000 CB radio
Переглядів 100Місяць тому
Having found very little information on it despite its age I had a look at my Moonraker FA5000 to see what is what inside. Transmit and receive adjustments normal for the most part, the radio despite being FM only is equipped with a modulation transformer for AM, the crystal and red trimmer don't quite do what you'd expect either. Either way this thing was the most complicated radio I have ever...

The Motorola GM350 (4-metres) is back in the car
Loved the video. Regarding the PMR. Can you tell me if this set is expandable. So if i by 2 set will it be possible to communicate on the same "line" /frequency.
All PMR446 radios work on the same set of frequencies, so the SilverCrest one in the video will communicate with any other brand of radio that operates on those frequencies, all you need to do is set the channel number in each radio to the same one and you're ready to go
Might be worth asking the garage if they could confirm whether they would say if, in their opinion, it was impact damage that caused the damage. If you can find a likely pot hole then you might have a case to put forward. We've had tyres repaired under those circumstances. Carbuncle in a tyre and we knew for definite which pothole caused it. Get a picture of the one you think caused the damage (showing the depth) as evidence. Get the picture with GPS on, before they fill it in
@@EveryUserName problem I have is that I was not aware of any damage until the car was inspected so cannot pinpoint an exact pothole and have no idea when the damage occurred, I did have some steering issues appear within days before the car was tested
Are they 16 channel?
@@redjohn20001 yes, they are
Once a pot hole has been cashed in for damage once, they don't pay others. It's a big cheating and robbing scam of County Councils.
to be honest around here the council tax feels like a scam with the state of the roads
Hi Paul, those pot holes are a nightmare, I encounter lots of them nationwide. I hope you get everything sorted and at least put the complaint into the council. All the best mate.
Hi Paul, the roads around Richmond, Catterick and Brompton-On-Swale are horrendous. I had no less than three sets of front springs replaced on my previous Peugeot diesel and lower wishbone suspension arms. I would recommend complaining to our local MP mister Sunak, but he's as much use as a chocolate fireguard. But spare a thought for him as he grew up without Sky TV so he knows hardship 😂😂😂😂
@@silvertrain123 you're right, complaining to Sunak won't get anywhere fast, that bit of the road in Richmond has yellow paint marks around some of the holes like the council are going to just patch them over, which is an utter waste of time, and most of the resurfacing up Longwood Bank into Catterick Garrison is that lazy surface dressing method which I believe will just be bad again in a few months given the traffic on that road daily, on my car it was a rear spring that went, then of course this track rod end as well, it is all fixed it is just stuck in Northallerton until I can pay the bill
Send the link to this with 1000 signatures from residents to your council. Let them save their phony baloney jobs!
I have to say goodbye today to my 706MKIIG and the FT-710AESS but I will gain a Elecaft KX-3
how did you get it to run? like i have gqrx up and running and i just install dsd but how do you get it to run in the command line? Thanks
Hi how’s it going, are you getting any nearer to getting your car back.
@@Hades30000 no closer, no, worse my rent is now due for this month and I have to pay it and that takes priority
Yanno what Paul? I've just got home from work, had me tea n shower... I'm absolutely shattered, worked over... On my way home, I was just thinking about getting a couple of extra radios, now I'm sat relaxing, scrolling on UA-cam, and your video pops up! Sooo weird! Lol. Pleasant surprise! Deserves a sub bro.
Interesting video Paul 🙂👍
Great handheld got 3 sets am looking software for it. Great video
The software is available online if you do a search for it, I don't believe the software runs on current versions of Windows or anything newer than Windows Vista, I run the programming software on a virtual machine running Windows 95 for that radio, for the GM350 low-band VHF mobile radio I have in the car for 4-metres I use another virtual machine running Windows 3.1 for programming those, the programming cable.for the GP340 radios is available on Amazon
@@PaulMcGeeM0WNU I do have programming cable and win 95 I will look up the software somehow. thanks
OMG! 😳😳😳 🤔
That’s a rabbit or some other Telepoint base station
That would make sense Lewis given its age and poor state of repair like it has not been looked after in a very long time, I have walked and driven up that street thousands of times and did not notice it until that day
Hi Paul, is there nobody around you that could help out short term.
@@Hades30000 sadly not, I have asked everyone I know
Good luck with it mate. Money issues suck.

@@PaulMcGeeM0WNU okey dokey, they seem to work well. Are you going to the National ham fest, Newark?
@@Ossie12pints I will be if I have a car still, mine is pretty much stuck until I can stump up the almost £900 repair bill still outstanding, the 991A has sold but that has only gained me just over £500 after eBay took their fees

Hi Paul, Love the videos but you need to tidy the bench mate !
Neat - is there CB hardware that has a native USB interface to allow channel selection for spectrum agility?

I still had a service and MOT left on a service plan I had with them, had I known how much work was required I wouldn't have bothered
Paul, I would recommend having a 2nd opinion. Always get 3 quotes, if possible.
Hi Paul, sorry to hear about your car issues, been in the same predicament in the past. You shouldn't have too much trouble selling your HF rig and I'm sure you'll get another when the time right👍
@@silvertrain123 yeah, I will replace it when finances allow
Sorry to hear this Paul what did it fail on ?
All repairs are done, so it has passed now, it was a split exhaust centre box, a track rod end, a handbrake cable and when they came to fix the exhaust the flexible joint between the output end of the catalytic converter and the exhaust had also snapped
All of them pot holes, causing damage to our car's.
Good job, thanks a lot!
Maybe if we reverse engineer the length of the vertical to work out the frequency. It may give us an idea.
I'd go in the shop and ask them and say nice shop. Can I ask what was the antenna for on this building any idea as I'm a ham radio operator 73's de 2E1FUE 😊
I think a lot of hams could benefit from using an audio mixer in the shack. If all the radios were connected they could mute or change the volume on any rig from one place. The tone controls are helpful too. In my living room I have my TV, scanner, dual band ham rig and FM stereo tuner all connected to a mixer that is right within reach of where I sit The output of my mixer feeds two large studio monitors on either side of my 65 inch TV. I can easily listen to 2 meters or whatever during commercials. I like the idea of using one for streaming. Pretty much any USB mixer will work great as a streaming interface. Mixers are the "swiss army knives" of the audio world.
Hi again! I'm going to the mountains on my summer holidays, do you recommend those walkie-talkies ? Thank you anyway!
Just got one of these a few months ago, cracking little set, may do some packet with it but also SOTA
Has anyone seen any service manuals for em?
@@MarkPentler I haven't found one, most of the service adjustments are done in the software to program them, there are no adjustments inside the radio itself or at least none I could see when I opened the radio up
I remember I had success with this method, but it seems the 262994 talkgroup is no longer operational on BrandMeister servers? I tried today and it didn’t work.

@@zepreto8903 currently a work in progress, should be done soon
PS people are advising not to use the USB charger for regular charging, it's only recommended for emergencies in the manual. I've seen reports of radios burning out when being charged.
Did you mention the plug to Moonraker? I've just bought one from them and it came with the same plug, and I'd bought another Quansheng in the hope that this time it would come with a legal charger.
I don't believe I did, however as the radio can be charged from USB-C I suspect most people will use that option
