    PS people are advising not to use the USB charger for regular charging, it's only recommended for emergencies in the manual.
    I've seen reports of radios burning out when being charged.

    All could lost re usb c charging, some units do not charge through it. It’s in the manual.

    Did you mention the plug to Moonraker?
    I've just bought one from them and it came with the same plug, and I'd bought another Quansheng in the hope that this time it would come with a legal charger.

      I don't believe I did, however as the radio can be charged from USB-C I suspect most people will use that option

    I bought the quansheng uv-k5 from Amazon and it also had the illegal UK plug. I returned it and bought a pair of the jucjet variants (the same radio) which had USB charging docks. Safer and more useful.

      The flex on the charging dock is also awful, very thin wire made of copper coated steel, I have been charging the radio using my phone charger which seems the safer option and I am replacing the flex on the charging dock with a more compliant one as I do have some spare two core mains flex lying around but in the main I will probably keep using the USB-C port on the radio

      @@PaulMcGeeM0WNU indeed that type of cable is awful. If you want to charge via the USB port you'll find that USB C "power delivery" cables won't work. Use a basic USB cable.

      @@chrisreynolds6331 the USB cable supplied with my phone isn't power delivery but does support a proprietary fast charge for it and it also works with the Quansheng UV-K5, so I conclude it is indeed basic

    did you ever do a follow up video on the thunderpole boomerang antenna ? ive looked through your videos but i cant find it.. did it perform any good ?

      I can't recall myself to be honest, it performs ok the way I have it up but the block of flats is electrically noisy, it could stand to be further away from sources of interference though

    Why bang on for so long about the charger? So it has an unfused plug; just change it if it worries you.

    • @PaulMcGeeM0WNU
      @PaulMcGeeM0WNU  4 місяці тому

      @@jemussi7842 I did change the plug and the flex, because the supplied plug was non-compliant and the flex, when I later examined it, was copper coated steel and a massive fire risk, British mains sockets are protected by a 32 Amp circuit breaker and fault currents can be high and no fuse in the plug means the flex can potentially catch on fire if something goes very badly wrong, I have a video on the process of rewiring the charger which was made not long after this video, I have had the radio a few months now and charged it off USB until the flex and plug were both replaced, with the charger being supplied with a dubious plug and what turned out to be a low quality flex it was right I be concerned about it
