  • so an update for the TCB550s modification and the device it is driving, all seems to be working ok.
The deviation meter was complete yesterday, though there was a magic smoke incident, my fault for poking at it while it was on with a metal object, it blew a veroboard track like a fuse when it went pop so a blob of solder has since fixed that and a fuse holder will be added when possible.
The radio was finished off in between videos as a chassis mounting audio socket needed to be installed and a hole had to be made carefully as where the socket could go was pretty close to an electrolytic capacitor I did not want to damage despite having a selection of them, a patch lead was also made so the meter can be connected to a radio with a discriminator tap.
The deviation meter scale measures up to 4kHz deviation with everything beyond 2.5kHz marked red, this is to alert me on initial tests of CB radios that the burner brigade, "rig doctors" and "screwdriver experts" have been going by the myth that turning deviation up high makes your signal go further and your audio sound better and louder.
The set being used to calibrate the meter is the Midland 3001 serviced by Tango 21 himself as it is set up for 2.2-2.5kHz deviation.
