My first go on 40-metres with the Yaesu FT991A and the Ampro-40 mobile antenna

- In this video I go out and have a go on 40-metres for what I believe is the first time I properly go on the band.
Not entirely to plan though, I attempted to try WSPR first but RF was getting into my tablet which caused the USB to drop and jam the radio in transmit so I abandoned WSPR and potentially FT8 as well.
I called CQ multiple times, more than what's in the video or it would have made the video incredibly long.
Before plugging the microphone in I happened across Callum @DXCommanderHQ operating as M0XXT, a shame I hadn't plugged the mic in as I would have liked to have attempted a QSO with Callum, there's always next time.
I later came across another UA-camr who was livestreaming, @MikeM0XMX and managed a QSO with him but it was very weak at his end but it was just say readable, I looked at the playback of the livestream after I got home.
While I only managed 2 QSOs in total I was still very pleased as this was the first time on 40-metres where I actually pick the mic up and talk, at the club in the past I've been wary about it but I may feel more confidence to do so now on nights when we do operate the club radio.
I hope to get on HF a bit more now, though I do believe RF was finding its way back down the coaxial cable when I transmitted as the case of the radio was slightly hot with RF, it didn't stop me having a go though.

A bacon and egg McMuffin, hash brown and a coffee is always a good way to start a bit of 'portable' radio.
We have spoken on 2m back in 145Alive event last Spetember.
Well done on the 'portable' expedition - I do the same but up on the North Yorkshire Moors.
Great fun and with the extra height the world ( almost ) is your oyster.
Wow, could you imagine driving around with the 40m antenna. Definitely be an eye catcher. Such a lovely radio, Paul. I'm jealous for sure.
I didn't find my QSO with you.. I did hear Mike XMX though!
We didn't have a QSO sadly as I didn't have the mic plugged in when I stumbled across you, there's always next time though
Well done Paul, at least you had a couple of contacts. I was busy at the weekend and couldn't listen out for you. Keep up the good work 👍👍
