Women's Sporting Fashions 1800-1960 | Museum Exhibit Details of Historical Dress for Outdoor Sports
If you did not get to see this exhibition in person or want to relive it! Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800-1960 exhibit hosted by the Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati, Ohio. This exhibit is billed as “The first… to explore the evolution of women’s sporting attire in Western fashion over this 160-year period, drawn from the exceptional collections of the FIDM Museum at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Los Angeles.” I focus more on the nineteenth century outfits, but you’ll get plenty of glimpses of twentieth century pretties! I wore my me-made 1870s tennis dress and hat for the occasion but did not take in my pink tennis racket for safety reasons. Tobogganing, ice skating, picnicking, gardening, promenading, walking, horseback riding, inline skating, bicycling, basketball, calisthenics, tennis, archery, cricket, golf, croquet, and more! Regency, 1820s, 1830s, Victorian, Edwardian. Lots of 1890s, my favorite!

The Nur Ul AIN tiara is the most expensive tiara in the world. Its value is intensified by its huge diamonds and the incorporation of pink and blue diamonds. Its value is literally more expensive than the combined value of all the British royal tiaras. With regards to crowns and scepter British has the upper hand due to the incorporation of Cullinan and Kohinoor diamond. The two most expensive crowns in the world are the British Queen Mother crown and the Imperial State crown.

I love what you made it amazing I was wondering if you’d be willing to collaborate on something I’ve recently become assistant curator to a early 20th century museum in central California called Madera and I’m wanting to create a social media account to promote the museum. The museum has extensive 1870s 1880s and other decades get back to me if you’re interested by chance are you near a place called Fresno?

Black tea won out because when Sir Robert Fortune went to China to steal tea so they could grow it in India, he found out the Chinese were mixing a chemical with green tea to make it more green--but this chemical was poisonous. Once he brought this information back to England, they stopped drinking green tea.

Very snarky comments about the British Royal Family but not about any European Royal Families who also had gifts from other countries. You clearly have a bias against Britain.

I love Ida B Wells and her work on the railroad cars, how there were men's cars, women's cars, and white men's cars, and how she fought in court to prove that there was not equal access to the public spaces because she was excluded from the fancy cars because she was a woman and was black. Also, her work fighting for black veterans' not receiving the same benefits from the government that white veterans did. She was put on FBI watchlists and constantly had to defend herself. I also loved her showing up to bat (ALONE) several times at very important moments in history, like at the trial of the innocent "Elaine 12." And when she helped to found the NAACP and constantly was pushed to the bottom of the decision-making list because she was a woman. She really stood alone most of the time, but she was always on the right side of history and I hold on tightly to her legacy of being such a fierce social justice warrior. Her words are so powerful. I love that someone can make such a difference with her words alone.

Let me get this straight. You couldn't get into Simon Hastings's arc in "Bridgerton" because of his determination not to have kids and continue the family line? Even though the series had made clear why he had made such a declaration in the first place?

Its so sad that regular clothes have been turned into costumes. In our part of the world, we still wear long dresses and dress modestly. We dont have much s*xual harassment happening due to this reason. I wish the whole world would embrace modesty again

Oh, this was a treat! How interesting that the colors looked so different on film; it's not that these dresses are actually 100 years old. I love Fanny's embroidered wedding ensemble, though the 'old fashioned' dress worn by Judi Dench would look better on me, lol.
