The trick about sewing is there are literally hundreds of different ways to get to the same result. What you chose worked. The dress is lovely. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
The Fall McCall's is in my wishlist and I *think* I own the other one too. My pattern stash is at S.A.B.L.E. I'm afraid. My trick for invisible zipper is to match the seam allowance of the garment to the zipper tape. That way, you match the edges and voilà! Also, a strip of interfacing along each side of the zipper opening to stabilize it. Lovely Frankenpatterning!
One thing to think of when thinking about buying products is that they will always make a profit from selling that item. It may not be the 1000s percent profit margin but profit they will. As far as the environmental aspect of that cotton , well is it way better than anything you buy that is man made. MN made is basically waste products turned into a sellable item. So buying it was better than it going to a landfill even if it is 100% cotton. Oh and this is my first time watching your channel and I wanted to say HI because I'm born and raised in the St Louis Mo area , raised in west county in what was the "country" when I was a kid. Many many many decades ago. Twice more than the 3 many's I put up. I love what you did with the IKEA cover and that dress is cute. When I was young ( so long that it makes you wonder how I can remember, well maybe I'm augmenting a past I can't remember, lol just kidding) I had a dress in the style of the "Gunnie Saxx" style but then I was unhappy because I was finally old enough to wear mini skirts and no one else was wearing them 😭😭😭🥺 but it was a wonderful time to be alive because we had wonderful rock music and concerts were so cheap even poor girls like me could go to A LOT of them and ALOT of them I did go to. Thanks and good job. 💋I ❤ the 70's ❣❣❣💋 Some may say it is because of the age I was during them but hey it is the best time of music as long as you don't add to much disco into the mix. (Being a hardcore rocker we all thought disco sucked way more than it really did. Well now that it's all hindsight.
Where did you get your fabric from? Any chance you can put a link in the description box? As soon as I saw the fabric I knew I wanted to use that same fabric myself for my own homemade dress. Also, Frankenpatterning is exactly what I just did. I took an existing vest and traced it to make an over-large bodice to pleat or gather into shape, traced an existing skirt, an existing sleeve from another garment, made a neckband, a wristband,, a waistband, even a couple different sleeve options - one a cap style sleeve - hopefully? - that would also work as a large pocket, and another sleeve pattern that will - hopefully - be ruffles, etc., etc.
@@AJaneiteSews thank you for that. As soon as I finished watching the video I was kicking myself for not just watching the video before I asked which I know must get old for UA-cam video makers but I just didn't think. I looked it up and I'm sitting on it for now, because there are two options - one I think for $40-ish the other way more but both are kind of outside my budget so I'm thinking I'll just go to Joanne's and find a similar fabric that is maybe more in my budget if I'm lucky before I commit to this butterfly fabric.
@@cziegle3794 1) Meh, you showed the algorithm (aka weaponized math) that you are interacting with the content. There are no silly questions. 2) Try your local thrift shop and Value Village before you head over to Ikea-Land. There's an awful lot of queen-size duvet sets that show up for very little money. Take it home and boil it in the wash and you'll be fine. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Who says you're "supposed to" do anything? Why? Just because society tells you to do something or a pattern does doesn't mean anything - unless it's structural or whatever. You do you. If you don't want to hem the dress by folding the hem over, then don't. You do whatever you want. There are no rules. The dress is beautiful either way. Period.
I love that you thought about the environmental and social cost of this fabric.
Totally adorable 😍 I love when mockups turn into garbs
The dress is beautiful and those boots, OMG they are amaaaazing! I love them.
I love the whimsical take, and the boots are perfect!
This dress is lovely! It looks so good on you. Great job. 😍😍😍
This dress is so perfect!! We all need more cool weather butterflies in our life! Beautiful creation!
"I'm not going back, I'm not". I love it🤣🤣! The dress is beautiful and I'm loving the witchy vibe!💖💖
This dress is so cute, I love the take on the whimsical witch. I am making my own Regency witch dress this year! Can't wait to see Delilah as Loki
What a darling dress. You look fantastic! The outtakes made me giggle. I hope to have my Gunne Sax finished next week. :)
Love the reuse of the duvet! There is also a collaboration gunnesaxoween going around, this fits right in with that whole vibe as well!
Perfectly in tune with my contemplations for dismembering a couple of my patterns buwahahaha!

IKEA Bergkarel duvet cover, but it was on clearance. When I searched on Google, it’s available on Amazon, Etsy, and eBay ☺️

Terry Pratchett did a whimsical witch called Magrat. She would have loved your dress, but would never have looked half as beautiful in it as you do.
