S2E2: A House Within A Shed by Tina Periquet
Most roofs are like a hat. They perch on top of the house to deflect the elements, but on a hot day they gather heat, and they can only take so much rain.
In a land constantly battered by sun and rain, you need more than a hat - you need an umbrella. And, perhaps, so does your home.
Inspired by the simple notion of a canopy floating overhead, allowing air to flow freely underneath while giving shade and shelter, Studio Periquet Galicia designed "a house within a shed". The structure is an arrangement of boxes set on a low tiled platform, which protects it from flood waters while providing a covered sidewalk all around the house.
Hovering above is a large pitched roof, supported by four massive pillars - an archetypal image of human shelter, deconstructed to respond to the realities of a tropical environment.
Space, air and light flow as freely inside as outside, from the open plan of the ground floor to the shaded roof deck below the canopy. The layout is flexible, able to adapt to the needs of a growing family with an evolving lifestyle. Tall windows bring daylight deep into the core of the house, while creating a stately rhythm of light and shade that both calms and uplifts.
The result is the best-selling model of Magis Homes' design-and-build platform. Aldo - a sheltered house.

wow. a truly thoughtful project, Imagine if many designers are like sir Carlson. even the tiniest house in a not so sought after residential area in the Philippines and the less fortunate people would get a greatly designed house. with a calm environment and aesthetically pleasing place. I like this. it's very good and it's a touchy video.

The house looks very complicated, dark and moody with lots of awkward protruding elements. It looks more like a sculpture than a cozy space to live in.

With what I have understood in doing design as a career, both architecture and interiors, is that design first should be about people. Design should be about responding not only for the need for shelter but should address other vital concerns as well as there are a variety and differing concerns between people. Good design is a solution to the many areas of concern that presents itself before even coming up with concepts or even shapes. I do not believe in a one solution for all design approach as the ultimate solution to every problem. Should I say that I can make a huge free size shirt that anyone can fit into? Besides..the need was just some cover for the body right?… problem solved! That is one vital area of concern but definitely will not cover every concern. There are different body types and each type will need a specific way of designing clothing to compliment both assets and hopefully extract some beauty on flaws. I’m not knocking out this design, I think it is quite nice clean and looks very liveable KUDOS tot he designer! However, I just don’t see how a structures looks from the outside, after one sees a good house as he passes by the street, can dramatically improve one’s quality of life. Yes, I am concerned about how a structure looks on the outside but maybe not as much as most people in general would be. My own personal view

Did you listen or are you just expressing your opinion? As for the second part, I've been inspired by architecture the same way I can be affected looking at art, sculpture or even a car. I can also be negatively affected by bad architecture -- like seeing some homes in my neighborhood. Many people aren't concerned about the exterior because they spend most of their time indoors. Imagine what would happen if we actually cared about the way our neighborhood looks? There is actually science behind this, but regardless -- if anyone is going to design or build, why can't it be functional AND beautiful? I understand only a few architects can do both and they command appropriate fees, but that's the thing -- because of low ambition/standards, we are forced to live with bland architecture like we live in Eastern Europe under the Soviets. Surely we can do better.

Why are Fans on the edges? Maybe because the designer does nor want to disturb the slatted ceiling? Then why do the slatted ceiling then? Why an overload of slats? Are there no other elements to use to break the monotony? Planning was mentioned as the best part of the house but little was discussed on why?…. Some of my observations only
