I was in the student section for this game, just like I was last year when we got beat by Marshall. TBH, NIU earned the win. They had some amazing play design, and we were frankly out coached. There was no energy in the stadium or sideline and the ND guys clearly came into that game assuming we’d win. I don’t think the ND team of today would come close to losing again to NIU, but I also don’t know how far we would’ve gotten if we’d won. ND has been a completely different team lately and the NIU loss clearly had a part to play in our future success. NIU’s coach is an absolute class act. Great on him to help mentor the young coach into a natty his 3rd year on the job- we need more of that in CFB

And if y'all think it's been bad before now, wait until Washington and USC find their footing in the Big 10. Penn State will not even be one of the top four or five programs in the conference, let alone be in the running for the conference title alongside OSU and Michigan. Franklin would be a great coach at Akron or Middle Tennessee State, but he will never deliver at Penn State. And if you doubt that, go watch the 1986 Fiesta Bowl and ask yourself if either our offense or defense is remotely close to that level of speed, discipline, and power. That was most PSU teams up to the mid-80s. I remember.

I think if they were just gobbling up championships, there would be some merit to peoples' indignance about this. Notre Dame, like this video puts forward, has some advantages to being independent, but it also has its disadvantages. Notre Dame represents something special. Its history and tradition are something beautiful. Throwing them in a conference would be bad for college football because college football has turned into a money-grubbing machine. It seems to me that it's starting to resemble more the NFL in some ways than college athletics. Notre Dame represents more than just another team in the machine. That's my view at least.

Great Video. That 2002 championship season was such a roller coaster of emotions. Almost losing to Purdue. They really didn't give us a chance against the Hurricanes. The game changed when McGahee got hurt.
