Building the Philippines with Wilma & Greg
Philippines
Приєднався 30 жов 2014
My wife and I created this channel to document the building of our dream home in Dauin, Negros Oriental, Philippines. It would also be nice to be able to assist anyone who is looking to build their dream home in the Philippines as well. We hope you will be interested in our journey. We both retired in July of 2021 and moved to the Philippines. My wife and I bought property to build our dream home. We found a perfect building lot in Dauin, Negros Oriental. Please join us in this journey with all the ups and downs of building a home. We will lay out the entire process from how to find land, how to purchase, title, building permit(s), utility hook ups, find an architect, contractor to get to actual construction and everything in between.

Thanks for showing. Look very nice. Add us to your list when you decide to go back.
You bet, and certainly will reach out when we set up a lunch with the gang.
The price for the meals was wow! The location looks great.
A smidge high for around here, but overall not bad. Thanks for watching.
I never caught how much your bill dropped when you went solar.
About 4500 pesos a month to 700.
Beautiful home.
Thank you
Brand new brother
You know it.
Nice
Thank you
That place looks really nice
It really was. Relaxing atmosphere.
Wow. you overpaid for what you got.. But, I guess you pay the price when you don't DIY.
That's correct
WOW, theres the usa arrogance. True colors.
You know it. True colors shining through.
@@buildingthephilippines If only Filipinos can see that western trash like you are destroying their country .
Now, finally, that's the real retirement life 🤣
Time to enjoy a bit.
I have a new title for your You Tube Channel. Building a quiet life in the Philippines 😂. Nice resort!
Good idea.
Curious, is that spray for rehydrating the liner? Is it paint? Or mainly reconditioning? Prince, as all our beloveds do, just want to be with us all the time! Pets are required for more love in your home❤️. Cleaning constantly all the salts add to our difficulties, one MUST stay on top of it. The benefit is longevity. So good to see you both relax, have a nice meal that would’ve been $150. without tip here in the US, but you know that already lol. Wilma, the tenderness of a filet is wonderful, daresay after 40+yrs in rest/hosp ind., I didn’t sell many! Reason being is no flavor, unless stuffed!!! Dated a few chefs in my time, and was prepared a filet seafood stuffed-out of this world! Another time, fire grilled veggies and bread stuffing in a sauce unknown lol-to LIVE for! I say stuff a couple an put em on the grill!! Bon a petite’!!! Lovely resort, thanks for the deets! Are hammocks in your future😝😎🤔🙏🏻❤️
I'm not sure about the type of liner. Most of the writing on the can is in Japanese. Hammocks maybe. We enjoy good meals out. Thanks for watching.
Is your truck gas or diesel? I noticed that diesel fuel was cheaper than gas when I was in Duma in June. Here in the PacNW, gas is the cheaper fuel.
Truck is diesel, best to have diesel engine in the Philippines. Extreme heat taxes gas engines.
Hi Greg and Wilma, nice truck. In one of your videos you mentioned you are planning on jacking up your truck 6” is it still a plan? In the Philippines are you allowed to attach a hitch on your truck for towing.
Yes, we will replace springs, shocks, tires, and wheels. 2 or 3 inch, I believe. Will do next year. Thanks for watching.
2 ribs. I think people should realize that prices are much lower but so are portions compared to US.
Correct
I would definitely call that a resort! Most of the resorts I've been to, since moving here, are 6-12 rooms, very few amenities, and hardly worth the effort, in my opinion. This one, however, is NICE! Maybe we'll book a room for a week, when we come back down there, and use it as a base of operations. Thanks for showing us, Greg and Wilma! 👍
Yes, looked real clean and food was good. Pool was spotless as well. Thanks for watching.
I have watched all your videos didn’t remember that it must be age hitting me.
2nd thing to go. Thanks for watching.
This is a very relaxing place.
It was pretty nice.
HI 👋 U2. YES 👍 having a truck while owning a house is a must. I miss having mine . PROJECT GREG??? Why am I GREGS FAMOUS PHRASE “NO MORE PROJECTS ”.😂😂😂not surprised 😮 brother 😂. Get away for a few days & relax. Blessings 🙏🌺🌼🌸
Need to keep knocking out little projects, no more big ones for now. Truck comes in handy.
Have you ever been out to the Island.
Apo Island, yes we visited that island as well as dived there.
We have had breakfast at this resort two or three times that were all good. Please add Marilou and I to the invite list when you have the group to the resort. Thanks!
Yes, we certainly will. Thanks for commenting.
Almost sounds like you are OCD...lol (talking about the truck bed) Looks like a very nice resort. Glad you two got a well deserved break. Thanks for the video, Wilma and Greg...Jim
You're probably right, always trying to keep it new. Thanks for watching.
Enjoy guy’s 😊
Thank you
Thank you for sharing this beautiful place on the seaside. 👌👌👌
You bet, nice grounds, good food.
😻I can't stop watching once I started. Thank you both kuya Greg and ate Wilma :) Wilma could be up to Coronary 💝
Thanks for watching our videos.
Very informative! Lockout for safety- genset/grid disconnect You've ditched Inverter using grid line with a generator instead of hooking up the generator to the generator inverter port Configuration were properly set from the inverter Redundancy of redundancy system :) You're a pro! Experience is always the best teacher 🥰 Thank you for your video. It's worth watching and we learn a lot
Thank you, appreciate that.
Thanks for the video. I'm a solar installer certified by Deye. May also use your video to promote the product. Very informative video.
Sounds good, where is your business located?
I'm a free launcher, just started this business recently ☺️. I'm from Northern Luzon, province of Pangasinan ☺️
Congrats, we wish you luck.

My wife have found the exact same as you guys . Always best to get tradesman to do the work on day rate - works out to be less then half the price of a contract price
@robkelso4397 absolutely, much cheaper.
You amazing we are here your wife is Filipina nice

Awesome Doberman ❤
He's a good boy.
Definitely will consider him. Helping aspiring entrepreneurs is a good deed. Thats where you start. The power of word of mouth.
@jakeramos6006 I agree, hard to find honest vendors here. Good luck with your solar choice.
Hello Greg and Wilma. Everything is looking good in your house. I have a question. I am thinking of buying a new electric fan made in Germany but sold here in Canada. Is it okay to bring the electric fan in the Philippines? Is your microwave from abroad or bought in the Philippines? Thanks in advance
@endabutsoy6071 you need to check to see if the device is 220v or not. If 220v then it's a good idea to bring. If it's 110v, common in the US, then you would need a step down transformer to use here. Doable, but an inconvenience. If the device shows 110v to 240v on the label, then it's good anywhere. That's ideal.
@@buildingthephilippines Greg and Wilma, Thank you very much for the valuable info. With God blessing i will be coming home January 2025.
What are the red bushes called?😊
I can't remember their name.
Looks great and comfortable. Love your videos.
@JackWaller-g3c thank you, appreciate that.
Very nice!!! I would have to have a wood burning cooker❤ I can't believe that you've conceded, allowing a propane tank inside your walls. I recently moved the propane tank outside my fiance's place. I don't like the idea of a frequent make/break connection for a high pressure explosive and heavier than air gas serviced by a woman enclosed by concrete. By the way, why would you add a 300 gallon tank to your water supply when you have a 15,000 or so gallon pool? You can get a good filter cheaper than a 50 gallon drum. And it could be used for any fresh water.
No wood for us, dirty cooking. Each propane cylinder is surrounded by 4 inch concrete and rebar on 5 sides. Pool is back up to the back up. Thanks for watching.
Good advice on moving the propane tank outside. I hadn't thought that safety part all the way through especially considering the quality of items here in the Philippines. My propane for the stove and the oven also is inside the house BUT it just became a TOP priority to move it outside. Great advice and thought provoking info. The blogger should have just said, thanks for the great advice. 🤔 🙄.
@@earlclep1 sit them outside in a tropical environment, hopefully nowhere near the sun, and watch the tank rust away extremely quickly. I had 4 inch concrete with rebar surrounding each tank separately? Not in our living space, but in our dirty kitchen.
@@buildingthephilippines I guess that means I like dirty cooking 😉 I can't wait to try your local fruitwood for cooking. I was addicted to oak and hickory but now 100 year old hedge fence posts. I can only imagine the potential for unique flavor from so many fruitwood varieties!
@markwadsworth1254 the locals dirty kitchens are full of soot from cooking with wood. Usually every inch of structure, bamboo, tin, coconut wood etc is covered. If I used wood in our dirty kitchen the walls and ceiling would be ruined. Nothing wrong with cooking with wood, just not in a western style home.
Good advice. Thank you.
Thank you
who are you trying to impress.
My wife, so she will stay with me. Did I do a good job. Thanks for watching.
Very practical and neat.Imagine it looks nice at night with the lighting also.Any LED lighting plans in the future?
The house has plenty of outside lights. No plans to add at this point. Maybe in the future.
My wife had a similar experience with a Cobra as Wilma did. My wife is also terrified of any kind of snakes, and she is a neat nick as well, it must be part of the experience. My wife and I are in Poblacion Compostela, Davao De Oro. and we have been doing construction projects since we bought our property 27 years ago. Next month we will be moving from the USA permanently to our retirement home.
Congrats on retirement to the Philippines. Enjoy your new life. Phobia of snakes is hard to handle.
Been watching your channel for quite some time. Absolutely beautiful, your estate is looking amazing!

Greg do you think 6 550w panels and 2 batteries will run my ac and the water heater for my master shower, house is 70m interior?
Depends on the watts for the AC and water heater. Do you know the combined watts.
Hello Wilma and Greg. I learned a lot from your house build and additional work you completed. As far as different topics, I am interested in one topic you mentioned. Specifically how life aside from working on your house is for you as foreigners in the Philippines. So, I’m interested to learn what activities you enjoy to do the most in your free time and if for example you have been able to establish friendships with other expats or locals either as a couple or individually. It would be nice to see you doing some of your favorite activities outside of your house and yard. Just an idea. You must be looking forward to having a break from house projects. David.
Yes, we do plan to do videos as you describe. Videos of the area and what every day life is like.
So What wS the total cost fir this house?
We did a complete video on all costs. It's on our main channel page. House was 3.3m pesos.
I did not know where you lived but found you because of the Great Wall of China was being built right beside you. LMAO
We are in the Philippines.
@@buildingthephilippines I live in Bacong. LOL. I was just taking an aimless long drive on my scooter and saw the Great Wall from the house being built beside you. I drove up to the new build and then realized it was your house on the left. Also met some friends of yours today. Just a bunch of funny consequences.
Small world.
@@buildingthephilippines Yeah its funny. I remember speaking to you over a year ago telling you I was coming to the Philippines. Lived in Cebu for a year and then moved to Negros. I like it a lot better here. Me, and my Scotch and my South American Cigars. Pure Happiness - LOL
