      I hadn't really thought about it. I hacked the original Vaultek products when they came out in 2016, and I followed up on their products for years, too many. If I never say the name "Vaultek" again in my life, along with the names "Bulldog Vaults" and "Sentry Safe" and "Union Safe Company," I will be a happy man.

    I haven't watched the video yet (still on my months long UA-cam break) but I do recognise that wall. I guess you had to repair it after the other safe fell off, which makes me wonder if all wall safes like that are also vulnerable to that kind of incident.

    • @HandgunSafe

    I have a question: how do you determine whether or not a inner groove lock can be picked or not? I noticed in some videos that you jiggled them open, whereas some others you mentioned they couldn't be picked. I recently saw a safe that looked sturdy and all, but it was a combination lock and the bypass key was an inner groove key, so I suggested it may or may not be picked open very easily.

    • @HandgunSafe
      @HandgunSafe 12 днів тому

      The vulnerability in these locks really just comes down to whether or not a lock has a side bar inside it. A properly designed side bar will not be accessible inside the keyway, leaving the lock picker no means of attacking and compromising the side bar. If you see me raking or jiggling one of these kinds of locks open, the lock has no side bar.

    The whole point of the 'secret' latch is to lock the catches in place, you are always supposed to leave the safe secured this way. A fair test would be to engage the 'secret' latch and redo the test, I'm sure the outcome will be very different...

    • @HandgunSafe
      @HandgunSafe 20 днів тому

      The point I made on video is that it doesn't matter. If the safe is not bolted down, one only has to try one position on the dial and drop the safe. If that fails, try the next position and drop the safe. Continue until open.

    • @clarkguenfu
      @clarkguenfu 20 днів тому

      @@HandgunSafe Sure, if they know it's a safe in the first place and that there is a secret latch commanded by the knob... The whole point of the diversion is that they won't know. The user is supposed to ALWAYS engage the secret latch. In this case there is no way the safe will open upon impact. While you raise some valid point about the documentation, the drop test is misleading, it makes it looks like this safe will open by itself if dropped while properly locked :/

    • @HandgunSafe
      @HandgunSafe 20 днів тому

      @@clarkguenfu You're describing what is known as "security through obscurity." In this case, the safe remains a secure diversion strategy for gun storage until it is no longer obscure. Once the safe is on the market, presumably selling through the website and maybe Amazon, and once it has been reviewed on UA-cam and elsewhere, the diversion is no longer obscure. Thus, the security is lost. Even without my video, the obscurity would vanish. I've advised companies for years to avoid this strategy for their devices.

    How hard is it to pull the cable from the little brown piece that connects it form the box so that they could just take the whole box without cutting the steel cable? What's so special about the M-Lock locks from MAKE locks? What tools is it resistant to?

    • @HandgunSafe
      @HandgunSafe Місяць тому

      I didn't test how hard it is to pull the cable from the crimped piece. You can contact Steelhead and ask them to provide some testing data on that. The M1 lock is an excellent lock with a sidebar. The lock looks like a wafer lock, but it isn't. The sidebar is inaccessible from inside the keyway, so there is no way to compromise it. The face plate is 1/8th inch steel, and there are also anti-drill pins in the face of it. You're going to have to ruin a drill bit or two, or a couple of screwdrivers, to force it open.

    Do you have a recommendation on the best brand besides this brand for a lockbox stored in a vehicle? I have a CCW but there are times were it is not legal for me to carry inside a building. I am a big fan and think that these videos are very educational. All of the research I’ve done has been leading me back to cheap boxes or Amazon (which seem like really poor products).

      Contact Viking Safe through their website. Every one of those locks come from the factory with the same preset combination, 2&4 together, then 3. Maybe somebody at the second factory, where the locks are installed in the boxes, something went wrong.

      I like how UA-cam is capable of suggesting some videos in which you said these lines when I searched "the damage is done" on your channel. I think it's capable of searching (to some degree) within the automated captions of the videos for keywords. If I search "you could just give it a good shake", I instantly find the Union Safe with too many ways to break in.

    () I keep forgetting how stupid these things are programmed to be. Instead of greeting them with the same cheerful tune - Just changing the response to a farting noise when there's no print registered would immediately inform the user that the safe is compromised - without increasing parts count. Making it hesitate/require confirmation to 'lock' without a registered print (illuminating the scanner until button pressed again) would inform the user that it wants a print - without increasing parts count. Making it refuse to lock (quickly) without using a registered fingerprint would force the user to return it to a more 'secure' condition - without increasing parts count.

    If that button is moved to a different place, I wonder if this safe will get your approval?

    • @HandgunSafe
      @HandgunSafe 6 місяців тому

      No. The bypass lock installed in this is a short-cylinder cross lock. I've demonstrated how to open them on this channel using tools any non-expert lock picker can use. Besides, the reason that some biometric handgun safes were recalled recently was this identical programming issue. If someone makes a mistake enrolling a fingerprint, that person has no way of knowing the safe will still open for any fingerprint without actively testing the safe. The risk of somebody leaving a safe available to anyone is too great, so devices that have this programming oversight are being recalled.

    Is a simplex lock box that small really worth $300?

    • @newyoutube6282
      @newyoutube6282 23 дні тому

      Idk...that time you sprint to your box and the bad guy is between you and your car keys that are in the garage and you can open the box with the buttons will probably be worth it right? My life is worth more than $300. Most people that already swung the cost of a gun can afford to cut back on candy, cigarettes, fast food for a month or two to swing $300 for this box or something similar from Vline
