Then you will be thinking something that is very common and even logical the stuff that's taught in business school and on MBAs and things like that.
But if you do this as the owner of an online education business, you may be making a really serious mistake.
That's going to cost you a lot of money and waste a lot of time. And I want to talk you through my thinking behind this in this video
Thinking of hiring a CMO or outside marketers to grow your online education business? It might seem like the right move, but it can often backfire. In this video, I’ll share why outsourcing your marketing to external experts may lead to wasted money and time, especially for creative entrepreneurs scaling online businesses. Instead, I'll explain how you can take ownership of your growth strategy, maximise your resources, and build a marketing system that works for your unique needs.

    Fantastic video! 😊 I absolutely agree with your perspective, Olly. Although I'm much earlier in my journey compared to yours, I've always felt a strong pull toward building things I'm genuinely proud of. Conventional wisdom often says to create an MVP, get it out there, and start testing ASAP, and I've sometimes wondered if taking my time has been a mistake. But hearing you articulate this approach is both inspiring and reassuring. It's okay to prioritise quality and intentionality over speed, even when it's not the norm!

    • @realollyrichards

      Cool! The MVP approach is super important too, but you can’t “MVP” your way to building deep skill.

    Hi Olly, thanks for creating this video - another great one! I have many thoughts about this topic (some of which I won't share publicly...) but the main one is that I am of the opinion that the visionary/integrator set-up generally doesn't work and is a myth that many online business owners spend their entrepreneurial careers chasing. I've read Rocket Fuel and I know this concept underpins several business models, but I also know that the only business friends I've seen make this model really work are ones who had an integrator on board with them from the start - in other words: where that integrator was part of the founding team, or where the integrator worked their way up through the organisation when the visionary happened to hire a rainmaker in a lower level role. What I'm instead seeing is that most of my online business friends are struggling to find integrators, COOs, people who can run the company, whatever you want to call them, when they hire externally. (I myself have had bad experiences (plural) with this particular role as well.) Over the last year, I've noticed that this topic has come up multiple times in the masterminds I'm in and I'm seeing growing consensus that finding those amazing integrators seems to be a myth and that a different model is required. It's a topic I will continue to ponder. :)

    This was so helpful Olly! Thank you. I'm working on implementing helpful/useful daily e-mails. Just building out the sequence in Kit. (Convertkit.) I'm also curious about @twostorymediamusic questions. In thinking about how Netflix works, for example, they do promote new films coming in X month. And if you join, you'll be able to see it. If you join after, you'll still be able to see it. Perhaps same idea???

  • @twostorymediamusic
    @twostorymediamusic Місяць тому

    This is some great thinking around this, Olly. I've got two questions: 1) How would you guard against monthly churn from folks who were only interested in the theme of a given month? I.e., "I joined for pivot tables... now that we're onto formulas, I'm out." 2) Other than the joining incentive, would you recommend against providing an evergreen library of content? In other words, would you say that if you cover pivot tables in February, you shouldn't make pivot table training accessible at any other time? Really appreciate your stuff. You're one of my favorite thinkers in this space.

    As an accountant it drives me crazy when I see people trying to flex revenue figures like it’s their post tax, personal profits. In reality the figure is far far lower. Glad you’re flagging this up Olly. Social media really is the Wild West where you can claim anything and people will believe you.
