I hope you feel better and lifted. This is such a tough and dark time. I can’t believe where we are in the US and the world. I’m working to stay grounded in faith, know there are many people of good courage and who focus on supporting others, humanity, kindness and continue to look forward. I have to keep working to do the same and not get swirled into this darkness. Take care.

Yes, things are dark. Truly, darker days ahead I fear. I am questioning everything on line. I would just delete IG and FB except I truly love the sewing community and also I have an online digital scrapbooking community, a local to me (Vancouver Island) gardening community and part of Sam Harris waking up community (that one is not social media and is incredible). I have done all I can using guides from techy nerds ;) to stop my private info and photos from being copied and shared without my consent. I have also joined Bluesky and looking at Vero. I am compiling a list of books that may be banned and also books from a feminist perspective (feminist as a badge of honour from the 60’s) I’m that old. Anyway, I love your presence and social conscience- it does come through. I have followed you for a long time.

So good to hear Americans whose values align with mine. I don’t want to feel this way but I’ve been so angry with America. I understand it’s not everyone, but there is a lot of toxic hate infiltrating into Canada (not to mention what that monster keeps saying about Canada being a US State). For the past couple months I’ve intentionally curated what I view. Cancelled cable; no more American news channels and CNN. I vet everyone I follow on UA-cam to the best of my ability (Whitney gave a good tip in a video in November about vetting people one follows). There’s no room for bigotry of any kind in my space. Thank you friendly like-minded neighbours. I appreciate you.

Honestly I don’t know how you do as much as you do, it must be difficult even under normal circumstances. I admire and appreciate you. Since having found you here you have been my inspiration and something bright to look forward to, even this little snippet was lovely.

Real life can give us a kick... but then we get back up. Sometimes it takes a little longer, but it will happen. So sorry about the app. I have stopped using apps for sewing as they kept changing and I lost all my uploaded stuff. However I do not post and when it hits your work efforts that is big. Spoil yourself

I agree, this week has been ROUGH. I knew it would be and it was still very hard and continues to be. I have to focus on self care. I got off all the Meta (it was just Instagram for me) and moved to Blue Sky and ThreadLoop.. That has been good. I am reading books for 30 minutes every morning and just peeking at news so I'm not uninformed. I have a cozy mystery audiobook for my commute and I cut out 5 projects over the holiday weekend. I'm trying to sew a little bit after work every night. My first project is the Cornelle Shirt by Elbe Textiles. I am working with a very thin and shifty linen. The first big step is putting in the front half button placket. I just have to do it! I'm grateful for my family, my friends, and sewing for bringing me some peace and joy even when it's rough out there. Thanks for the video. I hope you keep posting because it really helps me.

On your flared pants, try pinching and pinning the excess fabric across your front. It should be more in the middle and pinch out less on the sides (maybe), measure that inched gap and remove it from your pattern, that excess fabric should just be a fitting problem. We woke to 3 degrees this morning- love it!

Such good makes as usual, Whitney! I really appreciate you adding the extra line drawings and info. Threadloop looks intriguing... having a note book, insta and youtube to keep track of my makes, I'm not sure about adding another app to the mix. But now that Insta has changed so much, I find it hard to use it for finding inspiration and sharing my makes. So maybe this is a nice alternative. I'm interested to hear what you think!

Donated to Collin - thanks for the links. It's helpful to know I'm donating to a real person in need instead of a scammer and I'm sure there's plenty of them out there. The ITS Hepburn is my "go to" turtleneck pattern and I have sooo many. It makes a great cold weather running top too if you use the right fabric. Love watching your videos!

I think your pants are fine. Maybe a prominent front thigh adjustment, but not enough to warrant changing those pants. Just something to think about in the future. Thanks for highlighting resources to support the families in CA.

Love your makes! I agree with closing the pockets, I even have done that with rtw pants. I was commenting the whole video in my head, like are those rtw jeans you have on, the flares look so good and I hope you enjoy them more if you stitch the pockets closed to reduce the gaping and bulk. They look great with everything you tried on. Loved the chocolately brown Brynn and your burgundy Hepburn are outstanding pops of color !! Thanks so much for the call to action in CA. Thank you for the GoFundMe info for the black community. I lived below in Pasadena for 17 years and knew many people up there, an artistic community. As a musician, I would rehearse with many colleagues in their homes over the years. Now it is all gone. This is a great idea. Know that they charge a tip of almost 20% on top of your donation, but as Whit said, I don't know a better way to help yet. World Central Kitchen is doing a great job as well. One of my friends said they are everywhere feeding locals.

Speedy work on the tops, they look great! On your Brynn, did you do a working or a faux button placket? I have the pattern but I haven't made it yet. Do you happen to know what weight that knit you preferred (the heavier one) is? Knits are always a little tricky to pair because each one is different.

I lived in Pasadena for 17 years and know the areas you are talking about. It is so devastating. I have donated to World Central Kitchen with Jose Andres, an amazing person, and my favourite place. I also donated to a colleague's GoFundMe page, and just know that is close to a 20% 'tip' added. I understand it is to run the business, but I will continue to look for places where they don't add that much money. I decided to do it in this case as it was for someone personal to me.

Have 4 FOUR baby sweaters to make by April! One for a set of twins girls! Working on one now, have finished two, for babies soon to be born and one already here! That’s seven baby sweaters ( I can almost do them in my sleep by now!) also crocheting my DIL a sweater.

I assume you are going to hold the Madelinetosh double for the Wednesday since that is a bulky gauge? I love the simply wool. I knit my Dagmar in it (and also another cardigan in the worsted version of that yarn). It's nice to knit with and pretty soft. Knitpicks used to classify it as bulky but after feedback has put it to aran. I would swatch with it, it could work!

My winter, actually 12 month long knitting plans - make 6 - includes 2 pair of socks, a bunny hat, learn to crochet a market bag and dish scrubby, and a comfy slouchy sweater (my first sweater). I also have a sewing make 9 which I want to make priority since I have SO MUCH fabric, LOL, like a fabric store amount..
