    Use your Serge fabric and make a mock neck like the one you have on. Then wear it under some of your knit vests!

    That technical fabric is top notch among the adventure set! Yes make long johns from it. Do not wear a tank under it because then it won't work as intended. It is lightweight so that it packs small and light. It also keeps you from overheating when doing strenuous exercise but is designed to keep you warm when you are taking it easy. Great for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing or even hiking in the mountains. I am making a mock neck long sleeved T-shirt out of it for my hubby for mountain biking. Your purple plaid coating is gorgeous! It will give you a lift in the mid-winter blahs. I think the coat patterns should be different from what you've already made but still within your everyday lifestyle. Maybe the I am patterns Re which is a duffle style coat with a hood. Make it car coat length for your climate. Lots of fun ideas for 2025

      Ok- I made a turtle neck with it after hearing this and will probably make leggings too. I tend to wear layers on cold days and will definitely try when I go skiing!

    Hi! Thanks for sharing all your ideas 😊 You've got a nice variety of patterns and fabrics there. That big windowpane check is gorgeous 😁 and there are SO many coat patterns! I got the I AM Merlin coat a few years ago and have finally gotten it printed to use. Not a huge collar, and this one's is pictured in a large check on their site. The other pattern I have pictured with a large check is a 2015 Vogue 1479 Isaac Mizrahi coat.
    I brain has been spewing out sewing ideas this last week, and I need to take some pictures and put them back away 😆 I got a lot done on my Riley Overalls yesterday, and might get close to finishing today, then a couple of knit tops to go with. Happy sewing!

    I’ve been wanting to make a Sew Over It Cocoon Coat-the simplicity might lend itself well to your gorgeous fabric.

    Seamwork has a lot of really great coat options and I remember you saying you had some credits or are a member?? The Baz Coat or something like the Andi Jacket would be fun.

    I am a new viewer and have watched your end of 2024 start of 2025 videos and I love them! I have been knitting garments for about 10 years and have been a self-taught sewer since childhood but have always felt a lack of confidence in sewing garments. You are inspiring me to get started on my sewing garments journey!

    A good chaotic mixture of makes planned 😂. Love the coat fabric…. My vote would go for long version of the first pattern. If I can suggest an alternative… the hunter coat by Fibremood would look fab in this fabric too. Good luck with all your plans!

    Fun projects 🎉 Excited to see how they go! RE: the Atelier Jupe pattern, I made one of their dresses (Olivia) this autumn and I love love love it! However, there were a couple of spots where the English instructions were a bit unclear to me. Let it be known: I’m an adventurous beginner, so these instructions might have been clear to a more experienced sewist. But, I suspect it was a language issue because I speak Dutch (as a second language), and the Dutch-language instructions were much clearer to me. All of this is to say: if something about the ENG-language instructions doesn’t make sense to you, throw the Dutch or French instructions into Google Translate to check! (Or maybe you can read FR or NL, in which case you can skip Google Translate, haha) 😊 Have a super fun January!

    S9854, Love the print with the pattern, tie blouse would be fun! I ordered the same fabric in a different color for my grandson, I didn't really like it. Haven't sewn it yet.

    I bought some burnt orange wool coating a few months ago and am planning on making a coat, specifically the weekend of 1/17. Took the some PTO just to work on it. Lol

    I’m so happy you posted this, your fabrics are lovely and I get inspiration from you! I’m sure you will find something fabulous to make with the last ( grid fabric) being new at garment making, I almost bought that fabric and am happy I didn’t because I would NOT know what to use that for lol .

    Check out the Pattern Scout poppy blouse for the red fabric. It’s a fun technique at the neckline your vibe is similar to Casey’s.

    I love the tie front top in the red! That transparent fabric could be doubled! A matching tank and long sleeve top. Have you seen the Matchy Matchy On-Deck Popover? I have some canvas or denim in my stash I might try.

    Fun makes!
    My thoughts on your coat options: S 8797 is more classic looking and will stay in vogue longer. Boxy coats are in style right now but I think it's in today and out tomorrow. Also if you are pattern matching, which is a lot of work, you want a coat style that's going to be around for a while. My experience is if you want to be warm and long coat is awesome. I have a wool long coat and it is THE warmest!
    I also stopped buy fabric, though longer than a month, I found that at the end I didn't want to buy fabric, the urge to buy had passed. I really did want to focus on making up the fabulous fabric I already owned. I found it was just getting past the habit of looking at fabric and sales worked for me. To not buy I think one needs also stop also 'looking'.

    Whitney, I think a coat with a wing collar might work better than a notched collar with the large plaid. Tessuti patterns has some great coat patterns however, I think a lot of them are unlined.

  • @addiekl

    I'd try a long-sleeved top over a sports bra and see how it works as a base layer. For leggings you could use a solid black as the main fabric with the sheer only on the sides (I think you have a leggings pattern designed like this by green style maybe?). For the coat, I'm in favor of a big collar for the 70's vibe! The diagonals of the folded back plaid break up the pattern in a good way. I'm going to make the Closet Core Phoebe coat (shown in a plaid on one of the models). In addition to the cool collar I like that it has bigger sleeves for layering sweaters underneath. It's more tailored than the patterns you're looking at. I'm definitely going to make a muslin first. You keep referring to having talked more about your updated style in a previous video and I love those conversations but I can't seem to find that video, can you please point out which one it was in? Thanks!

    • @whitmakes
      @whitmakes  14 днів тому +1

      No I keep talking about it but… not actually talking about it 😂 I had planned on a whole chatty video but then thought it was too boring. I will find a way to get it in this month!!!

      @addiekl 14 днів тому

      @@whitmakesAh, okay thanks! I had wondered if it had been edited out... it's hard to have a one-sided conversation and know if it's interesting to anyone else. Our style is always evolving too, so pinning down defining features sometimes feels too prescriptive. We don't really know if it feels right until we have been wearing new styles over time. I'll look forward to whatever form it comes in!

    Oh my gosh! I have some Polartec power grid that I bought FOREVER ago and never figured out what to do with it. My husband has a ready to wear sweatshirt (Nike I think) that has powergrid as the lining and it's super warm. If you figure out what to make with it I'd love to know because I bought a lot! FWIW the polartec sweatshirt fleece, if you ever run across it, is fantastic for cozy warm sweatshirts.

      Everyone’s saying to make it as layers so I’m going to try and will report back!

  • @michellelemesurier3106
    @michellelemesurier3106 15 днів тому

    I've purchased a similar polartec fabric which is also quite thin..trust me its fairly warm.. I made a long sleeved basic shirt which i just wear a tank top underneath and I don't normally wear it if I'm indoors because its too warm. I also have some plaid wood that I'm planning to make up in the next month (hopefully) I decided on the Octave Coat from Love Notions, it has 2 types of collars, I do like the wider collar, but the integrated hood in the smaller collar looks so comfy. Would I use the hood.. probably not as our average winter day time temps are 5 degrees Celsius 🙃.. but perhaps could be useful if its raining...I think the Syd tie top will look great in the red and you could probably wear it summer and winter😊I

    • @whitmakes
      @whitmakes  14 днів тому

      Ok I’m trusting you on this and going for some layers with that polartec!

    That transparent fabric might as well be made into some type of gothic longe gown lingerie and just embrace the sheer vibes because the idea of sheer thermal underwear sounds impractical, like you'll just be cold any way, and silly. Happy sewing
