Welcome to the channel where we believe that Every Card Has Value! Our goal is to find ways for you to extract that value from your bulk collection. Whether it is buylisting your bulk to another retailer, selling individual inexpensive singles profitably, or just enjoying your collection in new and interesting ways, we are here to help you get the most out of that pile of cards you otherwise wouldn’t be using.
Is THIS the Card Sorter That I've Been WAITING For? | Introducing the CardBot!
Well I've finally sold out and allowed myself to capitulate to the card sorting robot hegemony. I for one welcome our new Australian overlords, the CardBot from CardCastle. In all honesty, it seems like the most affordable option for the quality of the build, and it's distinct binary sort design looks like it will be the simplest to socket into my own existing card sorting processes. It won't be alphabetizing or set sorting for me, but it can sift for value better than I can, and it will create csv's for me to add inventory to TCGplayer or wherever I end up trying to list. Look forward to more videos about this as I integrate it fully into my business!

What to Expect In a Box of Bulk Trading Cards (Not What You Think)
Переглядів 1,3 тис.14 днів тому
Not one of my highest production videos, but this is what it's really like when I get a box of bulk most of the time. If it's Magic, I'll get stacks of Erg Raiders or whatnot. Pokemon, I'll get piles of Caterpies. Baseball will send me lots of 1988 Fleer base cards lol. It's really not about every card specifically being a home run, it's about how to turn a whole bunch of very small incremental...
Something is ROTTEN in TCGplayer Direct...

This was a tough video to make. But - I have finally done so. I understand that this isn't necessarily the experience of all or most others, but maybe this can help you understand some of the things that have been affecting Direct specifically. I hope things get worked out, as I really liked the program in its form from just a few months ago. Meanwhile, I'll be focusing on developing my own bus...

Curious if there is a machine that just sifts for cards over a certain dollar threshold and not sort or organize the cards. Kind of like a dollar counter.
As one of the only card machines I haven't messed with, I'm interested in seeing how this works out for you!
Had to double take I thought I was watching Rudy when the video started 😆 I appreciate your honest thoughts about the state of the card sorting market especially when the big boy ones are $25k+ just to get started. As a new seller this seems like something I could aspire to buy if I got the point I needed employees.
I didn't even do that on purpose =] That was exactly how I felt about the CardBot too, once I got to looking into it. It's really very reasonable and feels like it can slot in alongside me pretty easily
when you get bulk submissions like this, how does the transaction typically work? If it's a mix lot of common, uncommon and rares... regular, holos and reverse holos... does the seller typically state how many of each type they are selling to you so they can be paid out accordingly? Or was this type of bulk submission just classified as all bulk at $10/1000? Do you pay them after you have sorted it out yourself? Or do you expect the seller to state what type of bulk they are submitting to you first? I'm asking because I have started to slowly buy small collections, but have started to find collections in the few thousand range where it looks like it's all bulk. I'm trying to figure out how to best approach situations where you're reaching out to a seller and how bulk sellers typically reach out to you.
When buying a collection, especially in person, I typically tell the seller I am a bulk buyer, I explain my bulk categories to them. If they have anything that meets these categories, I'll need it sorted out ahead of time - anything that isn't pulled out of the base bulk category (usually c/u) will be considered as part of the base bulk category. Likewise, anything they consider to be of greater than bulk value, they should pull it out to have it checked, else if it is in with the bulk, it's bulk till I find it. When I get submissions in the mail like this, it's kind of the same - I want the seller to separate out the categories if they are going to be expected to be paid for those categories. If they don't care to at least separate the rares from the non-rares, then I can't really pay them expeditiously. Ideally I receive a bunch of labelled bulk with a list of what's to be expected in the box, and I can just go through it real quick to determine their labels are correct and the amounts are close to right, and there aren't any condition issues.
My mother left a storage building full of old sports cards from a renter that ran off years ago. The cards go back to the 70’s thru 90’s from all 3 sports. I would guess about 25,000 cards total that seem to be bulk. I looked up a handful that range from .75 - 5.00. They take up a lot of space. Is this worth anything to sell in bulk or just take it the dump? I really don’t want to deal with this.
Every card has value - please don't throw them in the trash. I'm sure I or someone can work something out with you so that you aren't dumping them. If you want to email me at tcgbulkkings@gmail.com, let me help you keep them out of the garbage =]
what is that thing at 13:00 called, the alphabetized box
It's a card sorting tray, this one is from a kit made out of wood, but plastic ones work well too. This one was from MTech Cave
I've always had these machines as an idea in my head. I'm a small business mid-volume seller on tcgplayer. Selling singles is just one aspect of my business. As convenient as these machines are it does require an increased output to be on par with the machine. TCGPlayer likes to claim that businesses can get their return on investment in 8 months, but they never advertise how many sales or how much inventory those stores have to go through to reach that 8 month ROI. I'm looking forward to your follow-up video as I initially wrote off the cardbot due to its limited functionality, but maybe it's actually a good option for small businesses like us who don't have physical stores and several employees?
so what your saying is I can leave the bulk mines? Dobby is a free elf!
I mean, we're just bulk fracking now, instead of having to climb all the way down in there ourselves (this poor metaphor is getting really stretched out lol)
This actually seems very reasonable for mid-high volume sellers. Thanks for the inside look of this new machine.
You bet! I am really excited by this one. Tempered by some measure of sanity as I've retained here in Bulksylvania, but still. I just want others who this might be right for not to miss it
These machines are just craziness. Way to pricy for what they are.
yup
Most of them are - this one I actually feel like is useable, and it's already helping me out a bunch
Im reading these comments and am appaled by them. People must not value their own time or work for free. This thing works when you are sleeping. And basically pays for itself in one weekend (10-15 hrs) running
It does need someone working it, but not nearly as much as actually doing what it does manually, that's for sure. As I said in the video, I've been very reluctant to push for automation, simply because it doesn't free up your time as much as you think it would. But this one works a lot better alongside my existing processes, and the pricing makes a lot more sense to me so that I can recommend it without feeling like I'm shilling something I'd never use
That pricing is insane bro. $250/mo for 3yrs, + $150/mo in perpetuity, let alone the 1800 deposit before you even get the machine, is crazy. There's a 0% chance you would have bought this without them giving it to you for free, right?
As I said in the video, the software is covered by not paying the fees to use a lesser service from TCGplayer, if you're selling at a high enough rate to use it anyway. The bot itself is VERY affordable compared to the rest of the market for this. When I went looking for these kinds of machines a couple years ago, I was put off by the $25k and $30k options on the market, that I know stores use effectively. I would very strongly have considered this then had I found it. This is cheaper than the office/warehouse space I was renting, and definitely worth it in terms of return on the investment /for my business/. I'm not saying it's recommended for everyone, but it is definitely an avenue for scaling a single person or small team type business, without having to fork up thirty Gs
@TCGBulkKings I completely understand what you're saying bro and I obviously agree that it's not going to be for everyone. I did the same research years ago, and recently, just like you. The prices are still crazy. I'm just wondering if you personally would pay for this with where you're at today, the Direct Program issues, etc.?
@@CataractsGaming personally, with my business as it was two weeks ago, no, I wouldn't have bought one at that time. But it would definitely be something I could actually afford once I got finished with this shift I'm going through and can see reaching towards getting one in the next 6 months. Had I learned about it in January, I probably would have gotten one then. 2 years ago? Snap yes, no question. But I personally have been through a lot to put me at a cash-poor place at this very moment. But running like I was then, and like I expect to be soon, I could skip a few collection buys to get this deposit saved up and be much better off for it
damn those machines are hella expensive then you gotta pay a crazy high monthly subscription probably makes sense for big stores pushing tons of cards. but for the little guy which most likely makes up 90 percent of the market base whos NOT gonna get one how do these companies stay viable i can see a lot of these companies going under in a few years as the ccg world keeps sliding back to a regular market from the pandemic highs.
I don't think the little guy is 90% of the market. The 80/20 rule says the majority of online sales are probably going through 20% of producers. Plus once you have one machine the productivity compounds so you can put your earnings towards more machines. Machines aren't silver bullets and won't replace smart business practices but they can help you expand without hiring humans.
I would get rid of the cardbot while you still can, most of ours and other LGS people stopped working after like 6 months. I'd switch over to the Magic Sorter, or ROCA.
One of the biggest problems with the cardbot is its inferior plunger material, where it will scan your cards many times until you manually adjust it. I'd switch to a vacuum powered bot.
thanks for the feedback!
I'd stay away from the magic sorter as well. It came to me very uncalibrated. The machine hand would SMASH against the little dividers, and then after like 6 months of use after recalibrating it myself it just died on me. The camera just stopped working and it wasn't a cable issue, because I bought a brand new one to try and use, but to no avail so I just quit using it altogether. Not worth the hassle
I found the Magic Sorter painfully slow. It also doesn't sort the way a Roca would. It just sifts categories into piles.
I've heard about the older CardBots having an issue like this, but my understanding is that they've upgraded designs. The suction is actually vacuum powered, so it sounds like that may be the last that they've upgraded
This looks really good!
Can you tell me what shelves those are? Where did you pick them up?
These were from Walmart.com, I have a link to them in the description of the video =] I really like them. I know a lot of people prefer the wire rack style shelving, but I always felt like they were wearing on the boxes
What is your thoughts on toploaders for PWEs in general? I hear don't do it, others say they're too thick. Also where do you get your Shipping Shields? On their website it's in bulk and you gotta pay like hundreds just for it to cost 80 cents each.
I do get them from Shipping Shield directly, and yeah, you have to get a good amount to get the pricing down. But that really comes out pretty close to the cost of toploaders anyway (though I guess toploader prices have come down quite a bit - they were considerably higher during the teeth of the pandemic when I first switched to Shipping Shields). Anyway, cost notwithstanding, I personally feel, with my own anecdotal evidence, that toploaders are too rigid for the mail sorting machines, and card savers aren't rigid enough. Also neither can really hold as many cards as the Shipping Shields, which hit that sweet spot in rigidity between the two more common plastic protector solutions. I've had more cards chewed up in the mail in toploaders than I ever have in Shields. That being said, I think for the most part, toploaders work fine, if you use them correctly. I mainly switched because I was having a hard time finding toploaders in 2021 and I've been more impressed with the Shields' performance since then than I was with toploaders or card savers. Hope that helps! And cheers!
Ebay shipping is horrible!!! There's no real tracking!!
Not really fair to compare it to regular tracked shipping - that costs $4+. Compare instead to untracked plain white envelope shipping which costs the same as the Ebay shipping. It is better than nothing tracking :shrugs:
Do you at any dollar amount add signature or insurance?
ground advantage has a built insurance, but I will add additional insurance and/or signature confirmation at $100. Honestly rarely comes up for me =]
Where do you buy your 000 bubble mailers? cheapest i can find is just north of 6 cents a mailer!
I usually get them from Ebay, honestly, and that pricing is about right too
So when does it come a time when you have too many of one card? I have 1000s of pokemon energies.
That's something you'll have to decide, but I try to have 2x-5x what a single customer would normally buy at once, if I'm trying to decide what a cutoff would be after which I won't add more
What do you have there?
This is a CardBot from CardCastle =]

Hey bud! Your videos have been crazy helpful as we expand into TCG from just video games. I scrubbed through some videos to try and find the answer myself but I couldn't, do you store Rares with C/U? Or do you have a seperate rares box? And if you store rares with the rest of the cards, do you penny sleeve them first? Thanks again for all the help, you and RNG-Gamez have been instrumental in my learning process :)
I store everything in alphabetic order within the sets. Currently I only sleeve individually listed cards for eBay or my website's Featured and Unique section
Sick! Whats this one called?
This is the CardBot from CardCastle
Video incoming?!
yep, don't touch that dial lol
Awesome collection, love seeing bulk lots like this 😄 One of my first bulk buys was a collection of ~4,000 vintage cards for $50 -- in the first handful I came across 3 NM Vampiric Tutors, which I sold for $50 each -- that definitely got me hooked on searching for treasures while listing bulk myself 😎 I was wondering what you were referring to at 11:27 when you said you "still don't want to list below-near-mint [cards] on TCGPlayer for my own reasons." I'd be interested in hearing those reasons if you're open to sharing -- do you discuss it in another video? 🙂 Thanks for your time -- and the great vid! 🍻
I have discussed it before, but not in it's own dedicated video. Basically, because of the inherent subjectivity of conditioning, even with the conditioning standards TCGplayer have published, whenever I try to sell below NM cards, I immediately get into a higher rate of customer service issues, where people dispute the condition. Way waaaaay more people complaining their LP cards are actually MP than NM are actually LP Thanks so much for watching!
@@TCGBulkKings Ha, well that's understandable! Literally just yesterday I had someone message me about their order of ~60 cards -- they provided a DETAILED LIST of EVERY SINGLE CARD & why it wasn't the condition I had listed it as..... "this card has a scratch on the lower left & an indentation on the back of the card, with the edge chipping it's more MP than LP" etc. etc. for all ~60 cards. Their order was $16 & they really took all that time to write out every card over what they suggested should be a $3.40 refund. 🤦🤣😒
I know a cardbot when i see one
So excite!
Hey Chase! Wanted to ask, I have reached gold star seller on tcgplayer and have over 1000 in sales and now 500 sales for the past 2 months, getting into grinding at it hard. You sell primarily bulk, so I want to know how you profit on it? It costs me 93 cents to ship a card to ensure no damage 73 cents for stamp 3 cents for envelope 10 cents for shipping shield 4 cents for paper from laser printer (for address) 1 cent for piece of printer paper (to ensure card doesnt move left to right) 1-2 cents for tape (depending on how much I use) To sell a card for 5 cents by itself on tcgplayer, for 1.27 shipping, I make 82 cents. That is an L however that is very few of my orders, most of my orders that contain cards from the 5 to 10 cent range include cards that are more expensive so due to bundling I sold that more expensive card. I have 1800 bulk cards here and for my time moving at a relative speed, it will take me around 12-15 hours to get that in the online system and organize probably, but putting so much bulk in might lead to 40 card 5 cent per orders and it looks like I will make minimum wage or less for the math. How do you do it? I want sales and the bulk helps sells the more expensive cards sometimes, but not that often. I don't know if I hit a low end order if I should just say fuck it and send it with less materials, but I think from there perspective they spent 1.32 on that 5 cent card, so it better not come damaged or I would lose massive reputation. What methods are you using to primarily deal with cards 50 cents or less? how to you make a good amount of money shipping this? I just want to know, because these 1800 cards for example will equate to maybe 140$ of inventory put in for 12 hours of work, and that is not going to include the shipping fees and losing the money to send those cheap orders. Your channel has gotten me into the selling game, and I do think I can make this a living, I just gotta know how you move the bulk profitably consistently, Thank you for your time!

I've got a question chase. My shop has been growing and I'm starting to get bigger orders so far been able to handle them but today I got a 9 dollar order for 170 cards. How would I go about shipping this in a cost effective way?
I would pack these evenly into team bags and ship them in a bubble mailer, probably a #2 would do. Pirate Ship for a shipping label should cost around $5 depending on how far it has to go. Less the cost of supplies and fees you're still making ~$.02 per card, which is pretty good, about what you'd make through Direct anyways =]
@@TCGBulkKings great thanks for the advice!
I have been going through your back catalog of videos, great stuff. Any chance you could address how you deal with card conditioning generally speaking ? You have said in the past you have higher standards than TCGplayer but storing, handling, receiving, and shipping out unsleeved cards like this is going to get edge wear and scuffing at a minimum and if you don't keep your hands and work surface spotless grime, indents, and scratches can also happen. In my personal experience going through bulk I have not found any cards that meet your standard for NM but I do find those that meet TCGPlayer standards for NM.
When packed right, the bulk that gets sent to me is well over 95% NM, or at least in the condition they seller packed it in. Rarely do I damage cards in the receiving, sorting, storing, pulling, and shipping processes. It's in principle possible for cards to be damaged over time while being stored, &c. But either I'm just not noticing and I'm shipping lots of cards that people are silently dealing with being under NM condition, or else accidentally damaging my cards while I have them hasn't been a problem
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I think I am just experiencing old bulk that was played with more than the original owners remembered. (Their memories of light use and gentle handling not accurate) I should really just crack some sealed product and test how much abuse they can take before noticable card condition loss.
Q - Do Americans not recycle as they go? Why stack it to that degree?
We are provided with a single recycle bin, and these boxes don't really easily fit into it. It is kind of a chore to not only break them down, but then cut them up into sizes that efficiently fit in the recycle bin, around all our normal recyclables. So I've just been letting them pile up for a while, until my autistic ass can get around to breaking them all down and getting them to the recycling center
@@TCGBulkKings oh dang, a single bin sure is limiting! To compare, I'm in rural Canada we have no max. to how much recycling we can put out on the street on pick-up day (we put it in blue transparent bags, no limits). In any case thanks for clearing that up for me, I appreciate your time. Have a good box-break-down party ✌️✨😊
Hi Chase, do you need a special/certain kind of printer in order to print postage onto an envelope?
No a regular printer will do it, but it's more efficient with the tank ink style printers. Cheaper on ink 👍
I knew you'd be kicking butt.... I didn't know about the scorpions though 😂
Lol, we found a few more dead ones too x.x
I really appreciate that You're not using plagiarized stamps off of eBay. As most UA-camrs tell people to do.
We're literally in the business of selling things damaged by the counterfeit market. I can't believe the cognitive dissonance sometimes Unless they are proxy stamps, those are okay 👍😜
@@TCGBulkKings How is the product you sell damaged by a counterfeit market? Does it cause the floor prices to be artificially low?
@@LanceKotelnicki yeah, I sell trading cards. If people are faking cards, then bad actors are receiving the funds that should be going to legitimate dealers. Oftentimes they trick people by setting prices lower yes, but they are also just extracting money from the market. Also, those who get tricked are usually just out that money if they become successfully tricked. All bad things
@@TCGBulkKings ok thank you
My local dump takes all cardboard for free. Took a 16ft uhual full of flat misc boxes
There's a pretty robust recycling system here, I just have to do the work of breaking them all down and getting them to a place x.x
Disappointed I missed this live!
Youll have that done quick. Just a caution though, if that water heater in the corner is natural gas fired, please keep the cardboard away from it man. Those pilot lights are just literally open flames all the time under it. They are decieving because of all the insulation on the putside of them and all the heat going up and out of the vent.
It's all electric, but I appreciate the caution
@@TCGBulkKings gotcha man, just looking out. I'm probably too cautious, but I used to see it all the time.
Woah, that’s a lot of bulk😂
Well, like I said, it's been a lot of personal shipments as well. I think my daughter's Barbie Dreamhouse box is in there somewhere
gl gl
Yoooooo that's a hype project. Very much look forward to.
I'm super excited, and I think a lot of you all will be too =]
Good luck, but you've got this no problem!
Oh yeah, I've just been putting it off. Not because I can't do it, but because it's just a lot of tedious box flattening lol
Hey there, i own a fab online singles business and have A LOT of bulk. Would you be interested in a discussion to buy it?
I bet some old bulk of games not active anymore might be attractive to people for nostalgia's sake; I think most people would throw in the good holos too, but they probably want extra for it?
Dead or mostly dead CCGs absolutely have value, you just have to work a little harder to find the audience for them. There are facebook groups around dead CCGs in which Star Wars, Deadlands, Legend of the 5 Rings, MLB Showdown, and all kinds of other games are bought and sold every day The collector market for those is going to be different depending on how many people want to to collect them and on how they were produced
Great vid! Been wondering if you had plans to do a video on how you pack up and mail jumbo cards? And other things adjacent to the singles? Like pins, sleeves, etc. Would love to see how you do it!
@@sterlingwingard4298 I might do that =] maybe a short or two, not sure I could do a whole video, probably just an opportunity video whenever I sell such a thing, but I'll definitely try to do something next time that comes up
