Colbert, the more interesting Smolester for Unicums. I think she is hillarious 😀
as someone who has also physically been aboard the Vampire, I will never understand why WG chose the still pretty cool Vampire II as a name even though they do not yet have it's predecessor in the game, when literally right next to it irl is the objectively cooler named sister ship VENDETTA
I agree. I’ve been running Shikishima in asymmetric. If players with hyper accurate ships aren’t using the cheek against you, the hull soaks damage like crazy.
you know what could help solve the player retention problem? removing subs and CVs in random battles. Just put subs and CVs in their own special mode and the actual surface ship players can have fun again!
Could you stop saying "like", every 1.5 sentences.
Clearly the Russians designed the boats. Now its just Ultimate dreadnaught style mods just renamed for a steep price.
Add that Lesta did a complete weather /visual update. The ironic part is, if it was not for the War and the whole payment issues, we will probably see a lot more Western players, play with Belarus accounts. From a western point of view, the content is like 4x cheaper for the same thing, with better visual improvements and somewhat attempts at actually trying to balance a lot of issues. You see where the passion was...
I grinded through Buffalo recently after the recent buffs for her, and I'm glad to see WG finally moving towards tier XI cruisers not feeling completely worthless. I remember how much Ibuki was a struggle.
The part where you talk about the new ships on Lesta's part is so fucking true and people dont get this, most morons even defend Wg on the discord server, I cant anymore..
I swear to God if you say the word "like" again.. dude slow down a little while you're talking and take the marbles out of your mouth. The first half of most of what you say is clear and understandable but then you trail off into this muddled slurry of words that are almost impossible to make out. Also you seem to be almost whispering through some of this. Good information, bad delivery bro.
28:34 there was never steel in the direct drop in santa crates. Like at all
also, BP cost was never 1500 dubs. It was either 2,5k or 3,5k on X-mas. But 2024 is 7k for both which is a lot for sure
I used to be a WoT player but quit years ago, wasn't really following any of the bullsht WG does anymore and honestly I didn't even know they split with Lesta existing until a few weeks ago when a WoT youtuber started making vids about the overpowered bullsht they have on the rus/Lesta server. I had thought they left russia entirely because of the whole ukraine situation but I think what I heard at the time was they didn't even want to do it initially and hoped for things to be over fast or cool off in the opinion, but the general outrage and risk of some kind of sanctions was too great and they made a split deal in a hurry. I think I have to disagree on most of the programming being done in russia, they had been transfering people over to their giant cyprus HQ including the big honchos for years even when I still played. Maybe WoWS was handled very differently than WoT but I kinda doubt it. I vaguely remember that at one point they had a plan to merge WoT WoWS and the plane game into a single one. That would be kinda hard to do with the devs for what would now be the different components of the same game all over the place. I'm pretty sure if you could dig up the documents of how they structured the split, it says somewhere that if the war and sanctions stop, they would rejoin the company into one. A lot of other companies thought they could get away with doing something similar with just leaving their russian branch operating at arms length for a while until things 'calm down', until putler essentially seized their assets for 1 ruble sooner or later. I think the answer you are looking for is much simpler, they figured out they can save a buck by raising the amount of copy pasting, and to their credit there isn't an infinite amount of WW2 era warship hulls that exist. WoT too had long went too far into the rabbit hole of prototypes and nonsense gimmick game mechanics even back in 2016-2017 when I quit this clownshow.
Lesta kept Dasha and we get male teenegers with ACNe and probaly fluid gender to explain us the news... another smart move... are u sure Wee Gee kept the genius of marketing and PR???
The problem is that wargaming has made a conscious decision to put wows on milking mode. They're investing the least amount of resources/money possible while trying to make the maximum profit. It's been over 2 years. If they actually cared about creating new models, they could have hired and trained new staff. Especially since they were in contact with Lesta for several months after the split.
Don't watch this and just buy more Mega Satan Crates with ships no one wanted/clones/etc and boosters for our broken economy. That WG broke. Lets go 2.5 million silver for 5$ gambling crate!
Several typos in the video but the overall message stands, what you say here has been the case for a very long time. I think anyone will notice how every post-split perma camo that is not part of an early access event is just one color without any noticeable details. Trend continues with camos like the Golden ones for Chikuma II, Georg Hoffmann, and Prins van Oranje, but the point is if perma camos cannot earn WG huge sums of money, they will be garbage. New lines all follow the copypaste model, some more some less, new premium ships too. Look at Niord, the latest Dockyard ship, which is just a Prinz Rupprecht with a few changes, or Kalmar, which is a Visby with minor differences. Superships are an obvious tool to drain accounts. They're only distributed through auctions and there's always whales ready to spend hundreds of millions of credits to get the ships a bit earlier than everyone else (one billion credits per ship when?). Coal is a dead resource (how long has it been since we got a Tier 9/10 ship for coal?), steel is the most important one and obviously the hardest to get, and research points award gimmicky sidegrades so they're of little importance (the only ones that matter are Ohio, Vampire 2, and maybe Druid). To be honest, if I wasn't a veteran and willing to spend money I don't think I'd play World of Warships, or World of Tanks for that matter. WG built their core communities years ago and will last as long as those communities are loyal, I don't think there's any real interest to rope new players in.
@@pihip that's exactly why I don't think WoWs will 'die' in the sense that people expect, but die slowly over the course of 4-6 years. The game is already half a foot into the grave.
I didnt play for 2-3 years and was staggered by the lack of new content. I dont understand why WG dont create an actual team to do this work as it would be far better for the games health in every way
22:46 Chesapeake is dockyard T10, not supership. Also as for gimmicks, all latest Lesta's superships design don't have funny buttons (same goes to Maine, they removed the F-key and just buffed her reload) but in return they designed supermodules for superships only which only give buffs and don't debuff other parameters (like some modules from slot 6) and one supermod just costs 150k coal. At least they nerfed Annapolis' citadel invulnerability Also Lesta made 1 new map Kamchatka and on the latest KotS they said they'll release one more new map in 2025. As for plane-spotting, minimap-only one didn't get to live servers. They only did tests for 2 different concepts of planes spotting in Concealed Maneuvers where CVs got other buffs in return. The only thing they did change with plane spotting is that now firing main guns doesn't increase plane-spotting range.
@@dimvssometimes thanks for the corrections!
I only login to WOWS to look at the nice model ship especially for reference when making 3d model boats, other than that it's really just a dead game but it holds so much nostalgia to me especially back in 2015-2016 when it first began and also when kancolle became huge, that era is where I truly missed but I appreciate the art department no matter what even though the game is pretty much a polish turd at this point
I just realised something. Didnt WG just put out a beta for Steel hunters and wasnt there not another Tank game in the making which we havent heared from in a while? I think I know where the devs are...
they headquarter it in cyprus and,,,alot of big EU companies are there due to low taxes, nothing else
so why they still deploy public test updates exactly at the same time in wgc and lgc (lesta) applications (i have both game clients). also why recently my display settings were changed from "full screen windowed" to "full screen" also in both game clients exactly at the same time. they have changed game mechanics differently in both clients (in lesta: no sub nerf, new flags etc), added different ships. but other things still happen suspiciously synchronized and maybe their split is not so deep in some areas
@vlad_nn I think that's more to do with the similarity in the base client and how having both clients interact with the other. For example when I play across servers and have different settings, the game tries to mirror and unify settings wherever possible, unless they cannot (e.g. voiceline settings). I don't think that that actually means that both clients and companies are still secretly connected or something
only problem with lesta client for me is that it has no english language stock also the only reason few people play low tier is that wg have intentionally fucked you over if you play them less credits less fxp no mission progress no ranked mode or clan battles with them thanks for waking me up this has cemented my decision to never give them money again and i have all the ships in game
They are trying to re-release Hipper as a tier 9 lmao
The monetization part is complete bs. At least WG didn't make pay2win signals or must-have superlegmods on superships 150k coal each lmao. Transferred to EU even before the split. Absolutely no second thoughts on that decision.
@zeroliquid5652 never said Lesta was perfect. Yet WG's practices on WoWs are literally not something to write home either for the aforementioned reasons, especially considering most of the marketing department being with them should mean they make better decisions in this regard
So you enjoy pay only events with zero f2p aspects, endless lootboxes, lootboxes within lootboxes, paid event chains, early access in which you cannot get anything without paying, limited time paid events and so on
@@DahakaProd Yes I do in fact "enjoy" them because I never have to take part in them. Grind in this game is easy as fuck and none of its pain points are even remotely related to these monetization practices with grinding commanders being basically the only pain in the butt for a new player. I haven't spent a dime on this game and still have 20+ researchable TXs, 4 RB TXs, 4 Steel TXs, a bunch of premiums and a couple of legmodded ships which I can take out of port to any gamemode at any time without having to worry about some mfer having a higher tier p2w signal.
@zeroliquid5652 I haven't spent a cent either, that doesn't make their monetization any better than you make it out to be. Just because you don't have to, doesn't mean it's good practice from the company. You don't have to play either, which is something like 90% of the original playerbase already practices, for a good reason
"We're still relying on a fucking mod by ttaro" is the perfect summary of WG's approach to making quality of life improvments
When tournament organisers and streamers even for KOTS are using mods just to make the game viewable, it says a lot about whether or not some features should've been in the game in the first place
It isn't just that WG didn't get the talent at Lesta; they aren't even raising new talent. Recruitment and hiring for dev or modeller positions is practically nil, and most WG locations outside Europe are purely marketing only. AFAICT their shareholders have decided to mainly keep the game in 'semi-maint' mode and not create or invest in a studio with the same capabilities as Lesta to create their own branch of the game.
take a shot every time he says "right", right.
Finally someone spoke out I suspected a year ago that we got the slimy corporate types while most of the art/devs stayed in Russia. Since then the monetization has gotten increasingly predatory in contrast to their promise made back during the whole CC walkout. Who knows, perhaps that is null and void the moment they split with Lesta. - In a game about warships there is always going to be an element of copy pasta. A Prince of Wales premium would just be a copy of KGV and there's so many Fletchers yet to be added. However, it gets old real fast if that's the only thing WG is releasing. - Glad you brought up the devaluing coal but it's worth mentioning auctions. They used to be a "decent" way of picking up the occasional rare ship but now they have devolved into the same slob of supership early access, coal and rehashed Jolly Roger ranked flag.
WoWs is such a suffocating experience for new players that I have no idea how they think the ecosystem can be sustainable long term. Not just with the game economics which are bad enough, but how dead low tier MM is, just how many ships there are total in the game that you have to learn to play against, and WoWs content creators seemingly not hitting the alogrithm heights they used to (which means less effective advertising to bring in more new players). I feel like this is going to be a terminal issue regardless on whether WG can fix its skill shortage.
@@britmachine722 wows skill curve involving learning 7000 numbers and values
I have an account on WG NA server and also on Lesta. I enjoy playing both.
Really great video, i think most of us are at least suspicious of what you talked about. Thank you!
In fact, after playing both versions of Wows, you will find that the amount of game content is complementary. Every one to two versions of WG's game content increases, followed by one to two versions of Lesta's game content increasing, and the cycle continues without any competitive situation. In fact, there is no competition, so they must have long-term cooperation.
I have to wonder if, on top of the fact that Lesta got most of modeling and programing in the divorce, if because of the fact that WG is also developing Project Cold War and that new Mech Hero shooter that was announced at the Game Awards that their remaining modeling and programming team is mostly focused on that, leaving WOWS and WOT with a skeleton crew that can only make this trickle of content to keep the lights on. I won't speak on WOT Modern Armor and WOWS Legends since those games just pull assets from the other games for console (though do seem to have a different dev team handling balance changes, and WOT console at least must have some sort of modeling department for the cold war tanks).
I suspect that the reality is simpler. WG was probably making those games already before the split (remember, it takes years to make a new game). It was Lesta that did most of the actual content + the Australian team that WG sold off (that managed the engine). It only becomes more visual noticeable because of the split. It makes business sense. Ar you going to pay a western dud 50k salary, when you can pay a guy in Belarus 20k to do the same work? We have seen this a lot, with the export of programming jobs to countries like Poland etc, where the drudge work gets done and maybe one or two more senior guys that are in the german/dutch/... company to overview the code/coordinate/etc...
The bigger thing that really could use more emphasis is the issue of bugs. It's not just the fact there's bugs that are going a long time without being fixed: there's new bugs that get thrown in that also linger! A couple patches ago, Watchful and the two skills that improve Fighter patrol radius didn't work properly. While Watchful, IIRC, did get fixed, the two Fighter patrol skills that should be giving improved Fighter patrol radius actually do not work. This was documented around the same time as Watchful's bug, still not fixed. Any CVs that want to build into Fighters are effectively wasting 4 points that comes at the expense of the player to respec out of (and later back in to whenever the fix is implemented). Also to include with the bugs is when missions don't have the right text, but for some reason "can't be fixed" during the patch (ex: the one Enterprise unlock mission where a player had to destroy a ship within 10km, when the text said at least 10km away), a bug that a player would never have known if the player didn't engage in the numerous social media outlets WG and the WoWS community utilize. That merits reiteration: WG's bugs/errors come at the player's expense. The uptick in (predatory) monetization and expensive collaborations was already one red flag that WG's taking the game in the wrong direction. The lack of in-game info and resources that explains the various mechanics (even basic mechanics to learn the game, before gimmicks) is another problem in itself, with the account level system being so archaic that players can jump to T8 or even T10 without having commanders unlocked on the account. Much of learning the game, just to start, involves the long-dated "How It Works" series on UA-cam (not even in-game to learn something like angling/overmatch). Sounds like WG has one heck of a triangle of failure on their hands: aggressive monetization, new/persistent bugs that cannot be fixed in a timely manner, and poor in-game resources to learn how to play and advance in the game.
@betaflex1 oh yeah for sure. I didn't talk much about bugs because I was getting tired talking for 40 minutes straight, but there are also years ling replay bugs that just get shoved under the table. I don't like playing cvs, but even I've heard a lot about what you talked about
The aesthetics of WOWS is one of its greatest assets. The ship models, the environments, the shells arcs, the way ships move and relate to each other visually is unrivaled. I think they've lost focus on this in recent years.
Wows lost something after about 2021. Its as if the creativity stopped and new lines were just copy paste lazy money grabs. And then they got hooked on Fkey gimmicks and its not making the game better or more engaging.
The Libtard line is funny. The Ipiranga and the Los Andes appear to be almost the same ship model while the Lib is similar but noticeably wider. It's one of the few lines that is very visually similar across tiers.
I love the game but I don't love the direction it has taken since about 2021. The focus on gimmicks is lazy and cheap. Rather than developing new line characterietics from plausible, realistic weaponry they just do an F key buff and copy paste the parts and call it a new line. This isn't a good sign for the future of the game.
Good talk. I've been thinking about how WG is going to continue to make money as the player base declines and ages. The game isn't growing anymore. Is WG developing a Warships 2.0? And if so, will it be Age of Sail or Cold War to modern? They each have pluses and minuses. AoS would be easier to devslop since the mechanics would be similar to current just at a smaller scale and slower pace, right? Whereas CW era would be the opposite with missiles and air power. But AoS may not be as exciting or fun whereas CW may be more interesting to a younger audience. I hope WG doesn't rest on its laurels and just soak Wows for all it's worth and narrow their focus to WoT and its successor, though WoT 2.0 would be interesting to see. I hope WG comes out swinging and sets a new standard for naval war arcade gaming in the future.
I like to listen to how they say that WG use the code " IMPACTFORCE "to recruit new players,so why does no one mention the code from Lesta" SUPERSTART202..."(the code they already use is 3 years old! because there are no new players in them and will not be!) Has Lesta updated the sound of gunshots? Yes,it is, and it sounds (as for me) proto terrible! The sound is indistinct and quiet, the old sound conveys the feeling of that caliber much better (or is it just boring for me) Lesta made a "standardization" of visibility from ships after a shot of smoke, why bother with the mechanics of which Bois was made from the very beginning, I think for a reason? probably for players (those who came by the SUPERSTART code... and they don't know how to play at all) Lesta made eternal modules-thereby killed the piece of "realism" that was in this game. Lesta reinforced a whole branch of Soviet destroyers (a branch that was already strong) I wonder why? Probably because the same new players go to play on the nation that they like best ,all the second grades are relatively slow, and the new player is a "picky" person, you give her a "show", there you can throw the torpedo behind the auto-guidance so that you don't have to think a lot.But we know that the branch is not for beginners,so in order not to lose new meat, they are made not just strong, but super-strong for their realities. Lesta did nothing with the" Shotgun "on submarines (yes, it is still present there) proto stated that I also want to get rid of this" harmful " mechanics...Instead, it releases a branch of Soviet submarines, which it positions as a branch for the use of shotgun, then releases Super Submarines and Surcouf (which has no acoustic torpedoes at all) did not provide an opportunity to more actively counteract submarines (underwater search for cruisers / destroyers) in the direction of the submarine's ping. Lesta changed the color filter(change for an amateur) Lesta reworked the combat signals in the mood of economic boosters (I think it's clear who wanted to change the economy from the very beginning) The author criticizes WG that they do not want to "develop", but it depends on how they "developed" (degraded)a competitor. You ask yourself the question "is it really necessary?" The fact that WG doesn't have artists has become clear to me since the announcements began to write "the model and appearance are still in development" well, that's what you can do if WG doesn't have artists. I believe that if WG does not make new ships like Lesta and does not make changes that the author wants, then this does not make them a bad company.Maybe you think I just don't like Lesta? Perhaps, however, I try to look more or less objectively.
great, less cheaters will be in the game.
Lesta were an independent company before they merged with the WG brand and were already located in St. Petersburg before development of WoWs started. As for reusing assets, South America and Spain didn't really design their own ships but rather either straight up bought ships from other nations, or asked other nations to design ships for them to build in the case of Spain. Almost all Spanish historical ships at the time are based on Brittish designs and Italy did a lot of design work for hypothetical future Spanish ships, most of the Venezia line past Zara is actually ship designs Italy wanted to sell to Spain or other customers. WG do deserve genuine criticism for not using actual built in steel South American dreadnoughts built by Brittain and the US for Brazil, Chile and Argentina like the Minas Geraes-class, Rivadavia-class and Almirante Latorre, they just needed stuff to fill out T6 and T7 to make a full line. It's just a lot cheaper to buy something already designed or built by somebody else and possibly modifying it than having to develop domestic design offices and shipyards. As for French torpedo DDs, if you actually did a bit of research there just aren't any real designs to work with as the last such ship designed by France before capitulation was the Le Hardi and before that the L' Adroit-class. The game is genuinely running out of real ships and real designs to work with which leads to a lot of of mix-'n-match to "invent" new shit.
@Arthion the thing is this is just what I said about WG using a convenient historical narrative to hide the fact they haven't modelled anything in fucking forever. As Lesta is showing, there are things you can model even if the well of ideas is going dry. But instead, we get a $80 Johnston Fletcher that makes money off the myths of the ship
Wrong about the "not modelled anything in ages" part shinano was confirmed to be a completely new model @@FatFluffyPenguin
@@FatFluffyPenguin You need to also realise that aside from the new Soviet battlecruisers and US DDs Lesta are just as prone to reusing old assets. Look at the new Soviet DD line. T6-8 are all copy-paste, It's a new Gnevny at t6, a new Ognevoi at t7, a new Skoryy (Siliwangi) at t8. Look at the Lesta German CL line. They obviously have an easier time with most of the old modelers and artists still with them, but they are just as prone to taking lazy shortcuts. Either case both companies are essentially scraping the barrel for finding new shit to put into the game.
@Arthion I'm nor going to say Lesta isn't making a lot of copy paste ships- in fact after going through Lesta devblogs ever since the split they've done tons of that. But it's gotten to the point that when you cross compare with WG, Lesta making something like Surcouf or Madrid (which both have plausible historical narratives btw) actually amazes me, because WG has modelled nearly NOTHING. That's how low the bar has dropped.
@ChaosDeath131 it's not. Shinano was playable and existed in the beta test of the game. They just had to touch up an existing asset. If you were wondering, it was the old T10 IJN CV before Hakuryu released. Hosho > zuiho > ryujo > hiryu (I think) > shokaku > taiho > shinano
My only question is, if in the future they ever would go back to being one company. While far fetched, especially seeing that we're soon reaching 3 years since it all started, we can hope (not that Lesta is a saint, may players have pointed out to just as much predatory behaviour and gambling).
and lesta player almost d.u.m.b
thats true
What you are missing is the WG side got the CV and sub culture. Where the WG side is developing those two items, the Lesta side is weaning off them going main line surface ships. The WoWS player base has gone down when subs and the CV rework was done. Both of those game plays are bad for WoWS.
WG makes submarines? Soviet submarines, Super Submarines, Surcouf at the shipyard with sapfir, Pasopati and Shotgun send you congratulations from Lesta!
Excellent video documenting how WG develops ships and how they did things post split. Given the time passed since the split I doubt anything is gonna improve. WG itself were being hush hush about Lesta pretty much tells everything you need to know. There is no drive for them to improve, because Lesta is their only real competition. And thanks to the war, they don't need to compete.
you are right ......but you do realise Rodney its a Nelson class battleship.....like a lot of thinks you say are tru but not because of the copy paste ......
@VladislavVasilev-i6g yes of course, but the thing is instead of modelling something we just get another nelson. Or the 27th Fletcher in the game. Like ok? Can you make something new WG?
@ new like ….another Blue print …..I don’t defend them don’t get me wrong
Im playing both WOWS but also made a MK account since they had this starter thing going on where you got a Tirpitz, 5k dubs and tons of other shit for free after playing like 100 battles. So they are even more desperate for new players than WG. Most points of your Video are valid, but some are also just shittin on WG for the sake of shittin on WG. For example the new players thing or the Incomp and Napoli camo which exist since years (MK released the Incomp camo like a year ago) But that's just some nitpicking. Overall i think Lesta at this point just produces better quality content. By now they reworked the visuals on all maps, made actual new Tech-Tree ships like the russian Battlecruisers, which are both incredibly fun to play, but also rather balanced, since they just die when caught broadside. They don't have any over the top gimmicks, just an engine boost, solid armor when angled and decent guns. For the new USN DDs it's the same really, but im only at the T7 atm and can't say much more about them, other than that one feeling fun and also balanced. For premium ships they also cooked up some interesting things like the drum magazine on the Lothringen I own because of the 5k free dubs. That one is essentially a less retarded Hildebrand that also works as an actual battlecarrier, since it has tons of armor and secondaries. So it can actually participate in the game. But of course MK also has plenty of copy paste premium ships, but most of them feel seem rather interesting still. They also fixed bugs like secondaries nit shooting at subs at periscope depth and implemenged many other good changes like modules not being able to be permanently destroyed, or a minimap indicator for teammates getting spotted. However they sadly also didn't go through with the minimap spotting for some reason. I guess the way it is is perfectly balanced and not gamebreaking at all.
Some fun-facts (depressing, actually) about recent models: 20:04 - On the tennessee's devblog, the preview image they added for it still had the californias hull-number on it. They couldnt even be bothered to change that. Wisconsin is literally just an Iowa but 23% lower in the water (same with Illinois' hull) On Libertard, they were so lazy at copy&pasting assets, they at one point literally shoved a single 20mm oerlikon into a quad 40 mount. The AP shells are also a 1:1 copy paste from conqueror but without the shortfuse. I think the best example of the copy & paste epidemic is numancia, that thing was so insulting that I went around checking other ships and found literally every single asset on it. (Hull, torps, aa guns, rangefinder, radar, bridge, life-boats, turrets, even the crane) But in general I do agree with the things you said here, there just isnt any new content being added anymore. The upcoming dutch cruisers are literally just copy pasted provincien/wiesbaden hulls with german 127mm guns slapped on it, with some boring gimmick noone ever asked for nor wants to play against.
Not only model but the naming and quality of 18 inches shell of steel Italian BB ( I forgot the name ) are also shared with St. Vincent It just sounds weird that it only got copy-paste naming instead of entire model or something
This may be true of Wisconsin's modeling, but the play is very different from that of Iowa.
