Jokes aside, I really do like this ship. If you don't want to spend steels for Austin or boatload of doubloons for upcoming Smolensk B, Sandy is perfect alternative ship. If you don't like passiveness of this ship, either get Bayard or play gunboat DD's like Kidd.
I do agree that Sandy's SAP is lower damage than expected. Her actual SAP damage on most target you'll be facing is 1k or lower, and I don't know why. Even with saturated modules as consideration, I don't think I have this issues on other ship's SAP shells.
San Diego has artificially lowered SAP alpha (it's the lowest per shell SAP alpha IN THE GAME, even lower than the TIER 2 ITA DD) so saturation absolutely murders it's DPM.

the 5"/38 on most WW2 warships and the 5"/54 on most post-war warships fire an entirely different shell and cartridge. The new Mk 41 shells being longer, heavier and having a higher amount of explosive filler. Also the French use those same US shells in their own 5"/54 gun on Colbert, Marceau etc.
@@Arthion Didn't French ships use the older 127mm cartridge to take advantage of a surplus of those shells in storage?
@@FatFluffyPenguin Nah, they use the 5"/54 newer ones. They basically scaled down a planned 130mm cannon mount to be interchangeable with the US 5"/54 that was entering service

Personally i prefer SD over Austin. Sure Austin is retarded powerful, but i can't stand the bigger hull, overmatchable citadel and worse rate of fire when no MBRB.
SD at least even if i don't do damage, i still shoot fast even if no damage, death by 2 millions cuts! I feel like i have to work hard to get good score with her and i find it rewarding. Seeing T10 malding because a T8 is spamming them is priceless.
