Cinematic Car/motorcycle footage by YOURSELF- here’s how
the Arles look a bit more contrasty (which I like) and the sharpness rolloff is nicer on the Cooks. thats both very subtle - other than that it is hard to see any difference for me…
For spec work your budget should almost all go towards what’s in front of the camera, not behind. Great breakdown on this video!
It’s a hard lessons learned but makes a world of difference! Thanks so much for checking it out.
3:10 funny cut there
Lmao all my friends know I squeak a lot. Had to leave it in.
Hey there! I'm a one-man band, and I've heard you think the lenses I'm considering might slow me down a bit. I shoot with the FX6 and currently have the kit 24-105mm f/4 OSS lens. I'm really looking to switch things up and create a different vibe for my wedding and corporate shoots. Do you have any favorite lens brands you’d recommend? Thanks so much!
Hey! I think for run-and-gun stuff especially weddings it would be wise to invest in the holy trinity 16-35,24-70 and 70-200. I have the tamron 17-28, 28-75 and sony gmaster 70-200 with that combo I was able to film so much stuff. If I were to go back and do it over again I might have waited and saved up a little more to buy the sonys. Theyre just so sharp and super accurate colors. Kind of a boring answer but you really cant of wrong with them. Also recently I have been using the sigma 24-70 and its been really great I think its on par with sonys image but autofocus is not as great as the sonys.
@@codylarosa Thank you for this wonderful response! Would you recommend going with the GM version for the Sony?
beautiful machine 🔥
FX3 continuously delivers for me
Sound?! 🤷
Never heard of it. JK with this setup im not really recording sound. I would have audio engineer use timecode sync if I intended to get sound. Best sound setup I have seen though is with the stock top handle and a mkh50 that setup has truly amazed me.
Nice set up, what is the Matt box? Also I’m getting the. Arles, so I know they are heavy , you reckon long term need rods/lens support
yes for sure would reccomend running some lens support with the arles. This setup I am typically holding the lens. Matte box is polar pro with vnd but I dont love the VND. The matte box itself is nice though!
That monitor mount is nice
I love it! swivel would be nice but I can live without it
You know it's a no bs rig when the monitor only tilts forwards and backwards. Ain't nobody got time to miss a shot! 🙌🏽
Haha there has been times where I wish I could rotate but they are few and I’d rather have a simple tilt!
this is a work of art
Come hang out
Awesome video bother. Subbed
Glad you liked it! More to come thanks for the sub!
slick !!!
Thanks Hugo!
very nice build. thanks for sharing.
Appreciate the support!
Jealous of rigs that don't need internal audio! I'm stuck with the fx3 audio handle as a necessity 😭
Don’t get me started on the top handle, fx3 and fx6 top handle drive me crazy
@ the audio is actually so good from it. I’ve tried like 4 different monitor configurations on my fx3 but they all feel awkward because of the top handle lol.
@ what I have been doing is just using a monitor mount right on the flat part. If you send me a message I’ll send me setup
@ that’s what I’ve settled on! I tried really complex setups with like evf style monitor mounts, a rod going across, but ultimately wanted a simpler setup. It can just feel so close to my face when mounted along the flat part of the handle.
love it bro, I always save my specialty shots for last because othwise I get carried away too lol
Dude that’s a smart idea haha I’ll have to do that next time!
an f1 grading video would go down a treat
What all would you like to see in it?
day 340 of commenting on rig videos until I see a shotgun mic for "run and gun" rigs.
mkh50 is the best hands down.
May I ask info of mate box?
It’s polar pro matte box with VND if I’m being honest I do not like the VND but the Matte box itself is nice
is that a monitoring lut your using on your monitor?
Yes was using ice blue phantom lut here
@codylarosa oh wow I have the same luts, I haven't actually use that specific one yet as I'm learning on how to pick which lut depending on the mood I'm going for. That would actually be a great vid to do, knowing what is the best phantom luts to use for a specific look.
Perfect break down vid Cody - always learn a lot when you step us through your approach, fantastic footage too!
Thanks Ed always inspired by your videos! Hoping we get to hang some day
literally my dream rig
You can do it bro! What camera are you rocking currently?
that link match filter is crazy you just put me on
Pretty crazy, also works with Spotify to which is fun. Helps when you cant describe the song with actual words.
Those Arles are clean!
Heavy but so so worth it.
Hi Cody ! Don't you use the vmount battery to power the camera ?
You definitely can! I’m just not in this instance. If I did I would power it just with a cable though and not the dummy battery.
no wayyyy I saw this on frameset and put it into my vimeo inspo! great job my guy!!
Wait a second, you saw this on frameset??
Very clean! I'd wrap the HDMI cable around the shaft of the top handle so there's no loose dangling but that's nitpicky!
The HDMI cable is super short so it can be wrapped around but a cable tie on the camera could tidy it up. Good eye!
I know what you mean bro... don't use wannabe fake models, utilize a REAL model that understands the concept of what their job is and not "look cute". Just say it man lol. Nah nice video my guy I digs this!!!! I run into a lot of untrained models that wants more than Tyra banks but they need to do more than just "look good" which 85%of todays no experienced and no agent "models" don't understand especially when you have to shoot AND train and hold tey hands. It's annoying. Contact through a model agency or ask for their portfolio NOT on faceboob and IG.
cool! what brand wires are those?
The HDMI or DTAP?
Smooth!
Thanks Kye
12th like
I think you gotta like his comment haha
I mess wit it
fx30 video when?
@ if this gets 12 likes I’ll post one before sunrise.
All you could possibly need - amazing dude
been down the rabbit hole of complex rigs. a monitor, vmount and nd system is really all you need. glad you liked it!
Dang.
kickflips and coffee soon?
love it! question , are rails necessary for such a heavy lens? or the e mount can take it
Good question, with this rig I am usually pulling focus off the barrel so I don't use rails but if I was using it in on a tripod or anything else I'd most likely have some rails and lens support on it. This is about the same weight as a 70-200 which on sonys website they show it on a fx6 with no support so I'm assuming its fine. however its better to be safe than sorry.
@@codylarosa i saw the 70-200 is 2.3lb and the arles is 3.59lb. so thats also a big difference. be safe brother
@@snickernick3651 According to B&H the OG Sony 70-200 is 3.3 lb / 1480 g the new one is 2.3lbs
Came out really good! Love the halo effect man! Any specific brand of filter you’re using?
Thanks so much! Not at the moment I pretty much just bought the cheapest one I could find on amazon. Prism Lens FX looks really nice but is more expensive. I ended up buying two different ones from two different brands and in my opinion they look identical
@@codylarosa Appreciate the reply man! Yes I was looking at the prism lens fx one but seen one for half the price on Amazon so might try that one if there isn’t much difference in it. Cheers👍
Love this! Your channel is a gem. How do you find the close up filters so far? The price went wayy up and it is now $87. Wondering if it's still worth the price?
oh wow thats a crazy jump, to be honest I havent used them much after this shoot. they do have some very serious CA so if youre okay with the funk I think they are cool. for a paid project I would rent a specific macro lens at this point.
And not only do models “look good” like you said but they’re also professionals at modeling they are so confident in front of camera and you don’t have to tell them what to do where as your friend would be shy and not know how to pose/ model etc
Yes exactly haha I Believe I said that almost word for word. First time working with a model I was like yeah u never want to film one of my friends again 😂 so frustrating when you’re trying to dial in a shot and you hear “what do I do”
Incredible video! Whats your thoughts on the F1 LUTs? Worth the money?
I’ve been really liking them, I did some side by sides and they are very close to filmbox but filmbox is much much more expensive. There’s so many luts and I’ve been yet to use all of them. The discord is nice too and Blaine is there to answer any questions about them. Depending on your workflow you can really dial them in with the powergrade or you can just drag and drop one of them and it’s pretty much a final image. Check out Nick Brady too he has made some amazing videos using them. If you have any questions you can DM me on instagram too and I’ll be happy to talk more in depth about them.
They cured my hair loss, so I’d say they’re worth it. 🤷🏼♂️
@ bro what 😂
Another great video!! Super cool seeing your channel grow
Dude me you and Tony gotta hang! Thanks for always supporting, want the channel to grow as I grow and don’t plan on stopping so should be much more content and hopefully each one slightly better in some way.
the halo filter is still in my amazon cart. great job!
could be really cool on some car stuff!
You really hit with the comments about paying for a model, it creates so much freedom and really elevates things!
Yeah its great it takes a few elements of stress off of you!
Love! Thanks for the solid info, sir!
Thanks Juan!
👌 now I need a halo filter.
Next addition to scatter?
You won't believe what he uses to create THIS effect! Way to go Cody, another banger.
Dude, you’re funny TODAY 😂 hahaha love ya bro thanks for watching
I'm sorry I sent you to my agent. If you want me to model for you, I'll do it for some wings. Loved the video. I already sent it to my mom. 🙏
Are you picking noble beast or good company?
@@codylarosa It's Noble if we're within 20 min of the spot - no contest
FIRST
come to akron and skate and eat good food with me bro.
That starburst flare on the Cookes are nice though. I prefer the color from the Arles.
I kinda like the funk from the cooked and yes I’m loving the starburst flare its super cool
@@codylarosa what kind of projects would you use the Cookes?
This shows definitively that the ARRI lens are extremely overpriced.
They are for sure high priced but they do beat the arles in a few categories just depends on the scale they're being used at IMO.
@ - ARRI doesn’t show any meaningful advantage over the DZO Arles lenses. For that matter, none of these high-price lens manufacturers do. IMHO, it’s merely Hollywood-gear-nepotism.
Incredible test. Both are great lenses with very similar looks, but they are for different markets. The Cooke Panchro were made to be rented and used in high-end productions, while the Arles were more designed for low-budget productions and videomaking, so the biggest difference are in the build quality and functionality, the Cooke for example retains aperture and focus metadata for post-production. Both are great for what they are intended for
I’m glad you liked the test! This is a really good point about their target markets.
Great value kit.. Arri's clearly more neutral, sharper and more detailed in blacks and highlights as expected... dem flares on the Arles are a bit out of control lol. But I'd say 90% of people couldn't notice a difference in 90% of usage cases, most limitations only come out in the extremes. For the price... totally worth it.
Flashlight died so the flare test was basically useless haha but I think the Arles are an incredible pickup for the price
