This test shows how impressive the Arles lenses are especially for the cost. They look very close to the Panchros and could definitely be used as an alternative. I still prefer the color rendition of the Cookes, that distinctive separation and overall characteristics.
Incredible test. Both are great lenses with very similar looks, but they are for different markets. The Cooke Panchro were made to be rented and used in high-end productions, while the Arles were more designed for low-budget productions and videomaking, so the biggest difference are in the build quality and functionality, the Cooke for example retains aperture and focus metadata for post-production. Both are great for what they are intended for
Honestly for 90% of my paid work i would grab the Arles. I know they look clinical in comparison, but that's what pays the bills with corporate work and docu-style ads. They have surprisingly good angular resolution without being harsh.
Just used them on some high end corporate work and I think they really elevated the look. has just enough creamy nice to make it look like it wasnt just shot with photo glass but still in the same world.
I should bring over the SLR Magic APO Microprimes to compare. They have a "Cooke Look" that's really nice. The SLR Magic brand name is terrible, but this APO line is really really nice.
the Arles look a bit more contrasty (which I like) and the sharpness rolloff is nicer on the Cooks. thats both very subtle - other than that it is hard to see any difference for me…
Panchros have such a pleasing look but Arles does come really close though. Grt comparison, would be really interested in similar comparison with the SP3 or Nisi Athena's. Grt work
@@codylarosa Yeah I feel you on the flares! The rain bowing and pinching that they get at certain angles... so cool. From a sharpness standpoint the Arles definitely hold their own. From what I'd seen, youre really showing where they shine. I'd love to see you take on a project with the Panchro!!
These are basically affordable cookes. It shows it with the lens flares. The arles vs the signature primes the flares were very tamed on the arri signatures vs the arles which was very bright and didn't control the flaring instead it let shine bright just like the cookes 😊
These are basically just Cooke lenses. Only difference cookes lens flares have a purple hue vs Arles has a golden hue with a circle. Thats it. One cost 35k the other 2k. Is the purple flare worth an extra 33k? Its subjective at that point. Hats off to DZOfilm for doing there research. ARRI better watch out. I feel a true ARRI signature clone lens is coming from DZO next.
What a long way DZO has covered in such short time... amazing.
Really impressive, thanks for watching!

The Cooke look is real for sure but at this price point it’s pretty impressive the image that the Arles produce.
Love the loops in the flares of the longer Cookes.. and killer music choice!
The flares of the cookes are very very cool, and thanks! I have been rewatching lately so it felt fitting
That starburst flare on the Cookes are nice though. I prefer the color from the Arles.
I kinda like the funk from the cooked and yes I’m loving the starburst flare its super cool
@@codylarosa what kind of projects would you use the Cookes?

I’m glad you liked the test! This is a really good point about their target markets.
Panchro FF boys just have a rich look with crazy cool flares. So cool to see this 😮💨
Lets go back

I want to see them next to some Athena’s for sure, I have been getting that request and am curious myself. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@codylarosa we are waiting for it. thanks Bro.
Panchro has a lot of depth. Have you tested the Cooke S7?
Have not, I’d love to. This was a first for me!
I was thinking to buy cooke sp3 or two lenss of arles? what is your prefer if you have to buy one of them for your sony fx3?
one sp3 vs two arles? I would buy Arles, but I have not used the sp3's so take my input with a grain of salt.
Panchro FF is soooo damn good... but Arles have a very nice look to them for how much you're paying
Love the panchro flares, Arles are looking quite nice. I dont see too much of a similarity between the two. Do you?

The ARRI signatures were better than the Cookes in my mind. Arles are the cheap Cooke look but nothing can stand next to the ARRI's
Agreed. Cooke has a different look and I dont think its meant to be perfect and thats why people love them.
