that Blaine dude smart AF. I like the shake on the bike. looks dope!
I’ll introduce you two sometime. Cool guy. Great beard.
Blaine “Magic Arm Clamp Combo” Westropp. That’s what they called him in high school.
Idk about this Blaine guy 🤔
@@edwardcrockett 😂
Blaine is him🔥
Something essential for these setups like the bike shots. SAFETY CABLES
Yes sir!
The bicycle shot is dope asf
Thanks!
Gawx has some really cool ultra closeup shots using this. Also tapes the pens and pencils in his vids to the lens for the ultra macro shots
Love Gawx! one of my favorite creators right now.
I really love how more and more people are aware of Gawx! Definitively one of the greatest on UA-cam!
i've been trying to figure out how he gets those shots! did you just figure this out or does he have a bts vid on this?
All the shots I made were from my own ideas after playing around with it but watching his videos I'd guess its what he is using as well!@@SimieIriarte
you mentioned in the video the arms not being strong enough, I can recommend the Manfrotto 244 magic arm, it can hold my C70 without any issue! Love the video and the creativity with this!
Wow that’s insane! Next time around I’ll have to try those ones out. Thanks for the recommendation
High shutter speed + natural camera shake of the bike was a fire shot. Stabilized shot def serves it purpose for specific vibes. This vid was insane, great shot composures man. Getting myself one of these right now
Dude thanks so much! glad you enjoyed it. definitely a lot of possibilities with them!
Thank you so much! I’ve only seen this done once before and it was on instagram. He had his full frame mounted on his bike and I’ve wondered how I could do it. Though in classic instagram fashion, he was being rude whenever asked about how he did it and continued to dance around the question when asked by everyone as if he could keep the method to himself forever. Gatekeepers are the worst. Art is meant to be shared, so thank you 💙
In order to make it safer the camera, I’m thinking of mixing in some ratchet straps to ensure it can’t move. However, I’m out of state so no experimentation for now
The thing is even if you share your secrets no one can do it like you do it. It will never be the same.
dude i've been using this little arm for YEARS and i never thought of clamping an object in front of my camera while i'm holding the camera. like WTF 🤯. I've mounted my camera in so many cool places with this: foot shifting on a motorcycle, top of a door while it's opening, on a vacuum etc... but now i feel like you've just unlocked a whole nother world for me. I actually use it regularly to get static shots on a rolling c stand so that i can quickly set up shots around my apartment. Thanks!
Send me some examples it sounds dope!!!
Thanks for the Video. I was exactly looking for a video like this because i had these two shots in mind. I ordered 2 of them via your link and ordered some safety cables too :)
Happy you enjoyed it! be safe and do many tests! also would love if you sent me the final result would be super cool to see.
Ive been thinking about using those magic arm mounts but didnt think I’d get use of them. But you just gave me some great ideas! Thanks for sharing
Glad I could help! Please share what you end up getting
The glass with the magic arm is a great idea! I'm 100% going to try this
Try it out dude! I have seen people use spatulas and such too
Good thinking on that safety wire.. i love that you kept the motorcycle audio here
Unfortunately I have dropped a camera out of a car before so it was a lesson learned that anything CAN happen. And I’m happy you appreciate the audio. The sound of that sweet 900 triple is music to my ears.
I love doing these sorts of things, personally id use a K-clamp with a slightly stronger magic arm like a Manfrotto 143N as this combo would be sturdier
Studier would be better thanks for the reccomendation!
Motorbike shots looked sick!
Just a heads up, i once rigged a S5 to a electric scooter - done with a grip, however even though everything held tight etc and the cage was safety'd off, the micro vibrations caused the camera to come loose in the cage and the camera actually fell out the cage during a take, whilst the whole rig stayed perfect...
Could of just been the Nitze cage has only 1 - 1/4 thread to from cage to body, but still with throwing a small safety from camera to cage...
Oh wow. Was the camera destroyed?
the camera shake on the motorcycle scene definitely works very well
Glad you agree thanks for checking it out!
you could get mini c clamps for extra grip over the jaws if you have space for it
Good Idea! I had more issue withe the strength of the arm. A few have mentioned in the comments that there are some better alternatives
ight bro, you convinced me to get two of those
What’d hou shoot?
You won me here! so many common things my friend! I'm a filmmaker too, also the fx3 and MT09 second gen ! Lets goooooo
No way!! You sir have good taste! The MT09 is such a fun bike I don’t know if I can ever get rid of it. Have you mended the two yet?
Appreciate this! Might just have to pick some of these up, can't wait to start experimenting. Thank you!
Happy to hear you found it helpful! Stay tuned for another video this week!
I like the camera shake.
Thanks Yuval I’m a big fan of your videos!
@@codylarosa thanks man! Welcome to the UA-cam journey:)
the bike shot reminds me of the recent batman movie and it’s so sick
Yes! Have you seen the Tron opening sequence as well?
Been trying to figure out cool shots for when I shoot at restaurants and the drink one is awesome. Thank you for the inspiration.
You're welcome let me know how it turns out!
These are hard, might need one
Scoop em up, worth it IMO
The camera shake is awesome!
Thanks! Have you seen the penzoil commercials?
Cool shots, Cody. I love creative solves and I also love hard-mounted cameras. I have some bigger manfrotto magic arms (like 20" long) that go into super/mafer clamps. I'd be more comfortable with those on the bikes and the smaller arms as extra point of contact to get rid of the bounce. And remember righty-tighty... let the weight of the camera/glass try to tighten the mount point vs loosen. Looks like you're ok there. Regardless, cool shots and keep being crafty!
Thanks Jesse. Solid recommendation on the manfrotto arms. I was wishing I had some more length at times too!
legend. thanks for educating us
🤝
Yo I think I saw this on IG! Was definitely an amazing shot. Someone did it a similar angle with a GoPro later, but it just wasn't the same. Can't wait to be back on a motorcycle and try this out!
Thanks man! What bike are you riding?
@@codylarosa Of course! And I had a CB750, but moved overseas. Not in a place to get back on with licenses and still getting my feet stable out here.
@VlogCity sorry to hear that man there really is nothing like riding a motorcycle. Maybe flying? But I don’t have that kinda money 🤣
Fantastic video and great talent! Your advice is insightful, and I'm thrilled to use these tips into my own channel and videos. I'll definitely check out the gear you've recommended.
Make sure to share it with me! And thanks for your kind words inspires me to make more content.
After the bike I legit thought, wonder if it would work on a motorcycle, didn’t expect you to actually do it lol
The cameraman never dies
Let's go Cody! This is dope!! Keep killing it man! Love the breakdown! More please! The moto shot was dope!
Thanks Ben!
Cool insights for some basic rigging man! One more arm and point of triangulation would definitely reduce a heap of the shake from the big bumps. Props for adding the tether on the motorcycle!
Totally agree with the third point of contact, thanks for watching!
i love your bike. one of the best naked bikes ever. btw thanks for this idea!
Dude its such a fun bike I want to upgrade to a monster 1200r but have such a hard time letting this one go.
The bike shot is dope 🔥
Thank you!!
Cool shots! I personally really like the shake. Give its good energy. Mandfrotto make much stronger heavy duty magic arms and super clams which are also a good option
I keep hearing about the manfrotto arms will have to try that next!
That bike scene on the bridge....holy hell. Thats an absolutely exhilarating shot
Hahaha my heart was racing but mainly for the camera
That bicycle shot is insane bro
Thank you!
amazing shots, my brain starts thinking right away how i could use it, thank you
Thanks so much, If you get something cool send it to me!
@@codylarosa of course it might take a while but yes for sure
I need to get a small camera that will be a good Broll camera for my C70 to do these shots. Nice video.
what are you leaning towards currently?
your motorcycle choice is awesome! love MT
Yeah man the MT it’s just such a fun bike, do you have one as well?
Dope! Simple and effective setups for unique shots. 👏
Thanks! That could also very well have been the title lol
Love this bro - the POV stuff is so gnarly
Thanks dude! Yes the locked on camera I’m a big fan of. Going to buy some more suction cups for locked on car shots
Dude I loved this so much, I wanted to try it myself
Would love to see what you get!
Dope motorcycle shot!
Thank you!
Really cool shot on the bike!! Nice video ✌️
Thanks Marius!
Ibsaw the motorbike shot in your reel and wondered how you got thay, amazing work man and thank you for taking the time to share the knowlegde, deffo going to experiment with this setup
Thanks Ed your the man, if anyone is reading this comment you should check out Ed's videos!
Loved it bro! I’m going to try it soon. Thanks
Let me know what you end up doing with it
Dope lil arm jig definitely buyin one
Awesome let me know what you get with it!
I love this! I am def going to be purchasing 😊
Love that!
Great shots for sure.
Glad you enjoyed
Awesome tip
Glad you liked it! They’ve been a game changer for me
dud this was wild of you to do but I love it! thanks for sharing!
Haha glad you enjoyed it! Was a little nerve racking it’s got my mind going for some other shot ideas
Dang I want to get one of these now. Great video!
Thanks man!
Bro, you might want to upgrade to the ifootage spider crab magic arm for when you are attaching heavier items to your camera or when you are attaching your camera on something. It is more than just secured by treads which will not come loose when it matters.
I need to look into that one for sure have you been using it?
@@codylarosa bro, it’s amazing! It’s just more expensive and bulkier than regular friction arms. You don’t have to crank really hard to avoid it getting loose.
I'd trust the Smallrig superclamp way more but the idea is great, thought those things were 200€ a piece or more
I think the heavy duty ones which are way better are quite a bit more expensive,
I’ve had two of these in my kit for years but can safely say I’ve done nothing as creative as this! 😂
It comes from a lot of boredom and failed attempts lol. The first attempt was to mount it to a steering wheel but it looked terrible
Awesome piece of kit man. Deffo going to get one.
Love hearing that! It’s nice when something practical in the filmmaking industry doesn’t cost a fortune.
@@codylarosa exactly mate, especially with how much cameras and lights are it’s a good change when things like this are pretty cheap.
Great video buddy btw
i did subscribe because of the shot tbh
Haha thank you!
really useful bro🙌🙌
Happy you found it useful! Trying to upload some unique content is tough in this industry so I appreciate your support!
Dope i have heard a lot about these but never was intrigued until i saw what kind of shots you can get with it
Tons of cool stuff you can do with them, and they are helpful on set too just to hold random things.
This is very useful thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Happy to hear you got something out of it. Will have another video dropping tomorrow
damn, i thought about doing exactly this with my zv-e1 (baby fx3) on my xsr700 for a short film. but damn, thanks for making me think about vibrations, because that sensor stabilization sure as hell won't like these kind of high freq vibrations. kinda scared now
www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1730673-REG/tilta_hda_t02_sah2_hydra_alien_shock_absorbing.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtOmsBhCnARIsAGPa5ybZiuQBg6UJrzZoGTZhGG9oUcYNzuMFTQ04VCgavOVZBy7Wa_6dnowaArqpEALw_wcB
I havent quite figured out yet how to incorporate this yet but next time I do this, I will probably use something of this nature to error on the side of caution.
Great video bro! Love all the shots you got!!
Thanks Edward! Thanks for your insight as well.
Nice video bro. Great length also
Thanks, I’m trying to find a sweet spot. I have a hard time making anything over 5 minutes but UA-cam seems to favor longer videos. How long is a typical video that you enjoy?
Oehh definitely gonna buy and try that, looks really dope! Let’s just hope it doesn’t fall off😛. Which wide lens did you end up using?
I had on the tamron 17-28!
Very creative bro!
Thanks!
nice concise video :)
Thanks Eva! Appreciate you watching it.
Super cool!
Thank you!
We out here doing videos on clamps 😂
Great video tho 🦾
Would you prefer a “cinematic 3 point lighting setup” 😂 thanks bro!!
@@codylarosa no, next video should be all about gaff tape 🖤
Hold up…. I have this?! I’ve just been using it to hold my microphone while in a call, never occurred to me to use it in this way
Very versatile piece of kit!
Nice shots dude! I usually increase the shutter and stabilize it with the gyrodata with a program like Gyroflow or Catalyst browse. It will look smoother with the bumbs
Thanks! For the bicycle shot maybe, but on the motorcycle I liked the shake
@@codylarosaexactly, there are certain scenes that are better left with that visceral, violent motion that adds to the scene, driving cars, superbikes, hell even skateboards or some sort of sport on wheels
Love your colors. What LUT's you use?
Hey there! I use the Phantom luts I have been using for a while now and I’m a big fan.
Great video mate!
Thanks! Still feels quite odd talking to camera but hopefully gets better with practice.
Dope gear! Just placed an order. my only question is how do you nail focus on an item so close to the lens? For example, on the cocktail shot the glass is only like 3 inches away from the lens.
Thanks looking forward to seeing what you get, the Tamron has really great close focus. But I was right near the edge of being to close with it so was definitely tricky.
Hey Man, I love the motorcycle shot! what focal length was your lens at for that shot?
Thanks so much, I believe this was at 17mm
👌
🤝
This is so goos
Goos? haha
More!
They’re coming.
I actually like this a lot. HOWEVER, Sigma is heavy.
Sigma is chunky. The tamron is super light even survived a car crash once lol
It took me 1min 49sec to immediately buy this thing. Thanks for the inspiration dude! Nice video as well.
(Sorry for being the 70th comment and breaking the 69)
Maybe I can just delete a few comments to keep it back at 69 lol have fun with the magic arm let me know what you end up getting.
On the bicycle shot, how did you notice it got loose? Did it fall? On the bike when you went to take the camera off was it still on their time or did it become loose?
When I went to go take it off it would be slightly out of position. And when on the motorcycle I could see it fall lol
Can you share the link of the first motobike clip?
Are you looking for the full video or just the clip? It’s not a part of any full length video unfortunately I was just testing
wait, you said 'shake the magic arm loose' when you hit bumps? I'm assuming it didn't fall off? lol i feel foolish even asking the Q, bc I don't think you'd be suggesting we go trash our cameras ;) lol but i am curious if you had any issues.. I have a couple ifootage spider crabs and have been meaning to buy the clamp that works w its quick release system but have just worked around it... i think I'm gonna order it now, actually. thx for the tip! it seems like such common sense but i'd never have thought of it!
It never fell completely off, but when on the bicycle it did come loose a little it was tough getting the arms in the perfect spot. Excited to see what you get!
the clamp didn't get you views, your creativity did. Everyone remember that it's not what you have, but how you use it!
Say it Louder for the people in the back!
Just be careful with your cam, the vibrations from the engine WILL kill the IBIS of your camera long term
I have seen people mention that, I wonder how they are avoiding this with hard mounted shots like Macgregor gets in his Lamborghini ads (he mentioned he used FX3) maybe they just don’t care and are willing to eat the cost of a $4k camera just for the ad.
Damn dude your lucky that camera didnt fall.
Props to you though for thinking outside the box.
Was definitely a risk, I do not recommend doing it that way. And thanks I always love experimenting with new shots.
What’s a lens you used? :)
I used the tamron 17-28 I love that lens
nice
Thanks!
Clip the mic on
Bro how’d you get the crystal clear audio on the bike with no wind. It was literally like pure exhaust
Oh man I honestly can’t remember let me look at the clip data and get back to you I probably either dubbed it from a separate audio source OR it’s just the on board mic 😅
@@codylarosa do you have it in your helmet or somewhere where there’s no wind?
Really wish this video was titled differently.
What would you like the title to be?
@@codylarosa "This Magic Arm Clamp Got me Millions of Views."
"I think it's bad for the sensor to mount it on a bike and ride it on bumpy roads."
It ain’t wrong if it worked
Lol the question is would it work again? Idk I am not taking the risk again.
Funny you have quad lock to protect the phone from vibrations but the camera 😭😭😭
Funny that the quad lock actually broke my phone but after they released a vibration dampener you could buy 😭 my camera did not suffer any damage though
@@codylarosa yeah i'm very paranoid about vibrations after i read some people complain about their phone gyro being off. FX3 also does gyro so that would make me paranoid - AFAIK that cant be turned off, can it?
@@farzadq I went down the rabbit hole I have seen cases where people’s IBIS has broke due to vibrations but I haven’t seen any about the fx3 (not saying it can’t happen). People are hard mounting fx3’s to cars all day.. All in all I would say it is probably wise to be running some sort of vibration dampener just to be cautious.
@@codylarosa yeah thats a good point about the cars actually and i expect the machinery to be more rigid for 3-4k usd camera. You got my subscription buddy!
@@farzadq cheers! I’ll be posting more frequently this year thanks for the sub!
Are you Chris Benoit's son? RIP to your father bro.
OMG haha I have gotten this before. Such a sad story though :/
your friend's name is Tenzin? like from avatar? bruh
lol
This reminds me a lot of this scene from tron, very similar feeling
ua-cam.com/video/loGNj5jJBTQ/v-deo.htmlsi=aHDNoAve6KT-dNTr&t=44
I did get a lot of tron comments the original inspo was actually this video. ua-cam.com/video/GqonaUTpDm4/v-deo.html
@@codylarosa I definitely see that, either way, very well done 🙏🏻
@@BR3AD_YT thanks so much!
Anybody who makes shorter videos I just have to sub sick of hour long videos
What’s an ideal length of a UA-cam video you like to watch ?
Millions of views? Where?
Instagram @codylarosa
Why are you mounting an FX3 on such a flimsy tool? Just mount your phone. Instagram audience wont notice the difference
Why are you hating on a good shot
Dogass take bro.
Than i must be even more dumb than the FX3 guy. Cuz i Mounted my Komodo with 3 Ifrooto magic Arms and 1 30€ suction Cup to the bike 😢😢
But you don't have millions of views as such.
Check instagram :)
