BSA Regal Gold SR 500cc Gold Star walk around and startup
BSA Regal engineering were direct descendants of of the original factory and recommenced manufacture of motorcycles in 1999 using the Yamaha SR400, the Gold SR being an export model sold, ironically, in Japan! Expanding production, the SR500 based version was created for ROTW sales. About 200 were made in total, each bespoked to the owners preference. This has a painted aluminium tank, slightly higher bars and a leather dual seat, for example. Very rare and largely unknown, it is an interesting footnote to the BSA story.

Francis Barnett Cruiser 1939 walk around and start
Переглядів 1,9 тис.5 місяців тому
The pre-war (as opposed to the post-conflict bikes sharing the name) FB Cruiser was designed to be a high quality motorcycle, appealing to the junior executive who wished to travel without getting filthy. Quite advanced for the time, with coil ignition and fully enclosed, quick-release bodywork, they lived up to their ‘built like a bridge’ slogan. This example, in virtually original condition, ...
BMW R69S walk around and start
Переглядів 2,3 тис.8 місяців тому
The 69S shattered the world 24 hour record in 1961 and it took 11 years before Kawasaki’s new Z1 raised it on the Daytona banking, and even then only by 0.5mph. The 69S is considered one of the best classic (or vintage of you’re watching from America) motorcycles of all time. Fast and reliable, it remains a cut above virtually all of the opposition from the period.
Condor A350 walk around and start

1972/3 Swiss army Condor A350, built for border patrols in high mountain passes. Originally fitted with a de-tuned Ducati 350cc motor, this has undergone a considerable transformation and is now significantly quicker than a stock example. A good example of an inexpensive, rugged, classic motorcycle.
Francis Barnett Falcon walk around and start
Переглядів 3 тис.2 роки тому
A unrestored example of a 1951 197cc Falcon, a ride-to-work premix two stroke lightweight machine that literally got British back to work. Once sneered at by ‘proper’ motorcyclists, these little bikes enjoy a certain crude charm and have a fanatical following of enthusiasts. One of the benefits of these little bikes nowadays is the 150plus MPG ! Spares are also incredibly cheap for them, with g...
Norton Superior - a Norton and Brough Superior hybrid
Переглядів 4,1 тис.2 роки тому
By popular request, here’s a review of my NorSup. Built to re-imagine a wartime prototype made to power an outfit capable of carrying a small cannon and gun crew, this is the only example in existence (AFAIK). Utilising a 1000cc OHV Matchless X2 engine, which only ever saw service in three wheel Morgan cars and the final versions of the Brough Superior SS100, fitting it required a great deal of...
BSA DBD34 Gold Star walk around and start (sorry about the wind noise!)

Apologies for the wind noise, it was very breezy! This Clubmans goldie has been fitted with a Mikuni carburettor, helping hugely with its road manners. The clubmans had clip on bars, the hottest camshafts, highest compression etc and was usually supplied with the RRT2 (Road Racing, Two Torrington roller bearings) gearbox. It was in this form that goldies won either the junior or senior TT prett...
Velocette Venom walk around
Переглядів 4,1 тис.2 роки тому
One of the quintessential British post war singles, Velocettes are thought of as ‘engineers’ bikes (I most certainly am not, however, yet even I can keep it on the road!). They feel far more sophisticated than the equivalent machines from other manufacturers and display old-fashioned build quality, which is one of the reasons they went bankrupt; Velos were too expensive to make.
Greeves Triumph Tiger 100SS special walk around and start
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
This very special bike was built by Maurice McGladdery using a Greeves motorcross frame and Triumph 500cc Tiger 100ss engine and gearbox. Perfectly proportioned and balanced, the nicest thing I can say is that it looks and rides like a factory-designed machine. You may be able to spot the clever oil tap that cuts ignition power when off. Less obvious are the hidden oil filter, 12v electrics and...

The mid-size bike in the two stroke Suzuki triples range, the GT550 offered almost as much performance as the larger 750, yet was only a little larger than the baby of the family 380, so it should have been a great sales success. It wasn’t of course, being neither as flash as the massive GT750 or as cheap to insure as the GT380. A shame, these are great bikes and make perfect sense to use as a ...

Velocette GTP 250cc 1936 walk around and running
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
Velocette made two strokes first, long before the four strokes arrived. The GTP is a ‘quality’ motorcycle and not to be confused with a post war ride to work smoker. This example has the optional 6v lighting kit, but no speedometer, another extra cost option. Heavy external flywheel ...

    US version so standard bores as opposed to the chromed bores the UK got (with a little more power from the motor) from the 1975 'M' model....great if the bores are in good nick (they last very well as the rings & piston are supposed to be the part that wears). Lovely looking bikes, but as you say always in the 750s shadow.

    I bought the last one Harris sold to the public..Also in red....It's an unburstable engine and I tuned mine to around 50BHP...With that sort of power and the light weight and good handling it was a match for any other single then in production and better than many....

    I considered one along with a Honda VT500, XBR500 and Yamaha SRX600 in 1987 but ended up buying an F2 Gauloises blue YPVS 350 because I was 18 years old and all my mates had fairly fast bikes. Looking back I think that the 350 was the wise choice but I missed out on not getting the Matchless. If my mate's had not had bikes I'd have probably bought one.

    • @paulmiles
      @paulmiles 3 місяці тому

      There would have been issues with type-approval then. Lots of tuning parts for the SR and it doesn’t need to be 650cc, a 535 big-bore and better cam makes a world of difference and keeps it rideable on the road. Big fins? Nah, it’s a nod to the DBD amd not a copy imho. Cheers P

    I don’t mind the clocks. I’ve got similar ones on my bike. They suit the look and if you get the originals from the states they aren’t that cheap either. I think it looks great. Can’t go wrong with that engine. How much do they go for?

    • @paulmiles
      @paulmiles 3 місяці тому

      That’s a tricky one to answer. Being so rare, prices range between ‘HOW much? It’s just a tarted up SR” and “go and find another one for sale!” In the U.K. they are currently somewhere between 6 and 12 thousand pounds; I’d suggest the lower price to be the correct one.

The only person who could start-it apart from me , rode a manx-Norton . It was a beast , running the same wheels as yours and very-fast . Have you seen the self-contained e/s start for the XT/SR singles? I think it’s French and good for 100 starts before it needs recharging. It would work well on this tbf.
