- The mid-size bike in the two stroke Suzuki triples range, the GT550 offered almost as much performance as the larger 750, yet was only a little larger than the baby of the family 380, so it should have been a great sales success. It wasn’t of course, being neither as flash as the massive GT750 or as cheap to insure as the GT380. A shame, these are great bikes and make perfect sense to use as a Japanese classic today. Buy the best one you can find, replacement parts like exhausts, grab rails and even petrol caps are difficult to find and cost a fortune these days. They even come with electric start!
Thanks Paul. Takes me back to 1973 when I purchased one brand new. It was December 73 when the dealer tried to talk me into the 1974 model with the gear display. I said thanks, but no thanks, I'll buy the 73 model. It was cheaper of course. I rode it from Sydney Australia to Perth WA and return. It was approx 2500 miles to Perth with over 200 miles of dirt road back then.
I loved that bike. Fond memories.
Grandfather had a Red tank 76’. First bike I was ever on. He took me for my first ride when I was 3 back in 83’.
Very nice condition! I’m a big two stroke fan and still own a Kawasaki KH-500.
I used to have a 1974 GT185. I wish I kept it. It was a great bike and fun to ride. You've got a beautiful bike there.
I've owned 14 kawasaki triples in my time, never had a centre cylinder seize, Elvis isn't on the moon either. 😂😂
Great review Paul.
Used to have one stunning bikes
yours is in 1977 colours [ black side panels ] , still having earlier linked pipes , sounding nice , they will do a lot more to the gallon than 30 = , will check mine again , but does a lot more mpg.
Ive got a 76 A in black and prefer the UK pipes with no link pipe between downpipes but that one is lovely.everything you said i agree with.
The ‘72 is the best looking one in my opinion
I’ve actually had both, but prefer these later models, probably because they were the one’s I wanted when they were new! Great bikes though, very underrated.
Very nice; I must get one ;)
That looks like a 1977.
