Passiflora vitifolia taste test - How amazing is this rare passion fruit?
Passion fruit come in many different flavor profiles, some are amazing and some are disgusting, or at least insipid.
I've been growing several varieties lately to test more of them out that will grow in my climate. Several years back I planted Passiflora vitifolia because of it's gorgeous and amazing bright red flower (video coming soon on how to pollinate it)! I finally figured out how to pollinate them properly and got tons of fruit this year so I wanted to do a taste test...
This passion fruit is a MUST to grow if you like well behaved passion fruit vines that only need moderate watering, can take SoCal winters and SoCal summers, produce bright red stunning flowers, and have soft velvety leaves... and to top that off, end up producing an edible fruit. It's a win, win, win win situation.
Come join me as I taste the first ever fruit of the vine in my yard...
Please like and subscribe to my channel so I can grow and continue to bring you informational videos about tons of rare plants. Many more coming soon!

I HATE ALL MOSQUITOES... EXCEPT FOR THESE...

I hate all mosquitoes... Except for these... Did you know some of these little a holes actually pollinate flowers? Out of 3500 mosquito species. Almost all male mosquitoes help pollinate flowers. And it's only about 3% of the mosquito species that have the biting females that carry disease. That's only about 105 out of 3500 Now, we have every reason to hate those 105 species that bite us. But t...

STOP RACCOONS FROM DIGGING IN YOUR GARDEN If you garden, at some point I’m sure you’ve through the frustration of something digging up your seeds, seedlings or young plants and trees. Rats, squirrels and raccoons are usually the culprits. Sounds like a winner! The mini watermelon looking fruit is neat. I imagine it adds a decorative touch after blooms end. One of the many passion fruit plants I plan on getting when I can convince my mother that they are delicious. Still starting out with annonaceae and myrtaceae families first…along with store fruits…I did finally make a purchase a couple weeks ago. Still waiting on fulfillment. But super stoked! Starting my list for my next purchase early, since I take so long to decide…

    I have a small vine of vitifolia that fell off my table in a pot and I didnt see it and I thought it died. I have nursed it back to health and it is growing new green vines. I hope to get flowers next year. I also have passiflora phoenecia "ruby glow" and I hand pollinate it using caerulea as well. I am not a huge fan of the fruit. I am going to try it again this year. I have passiflora decaisneana blooming and I am testing self pollination and pollination using caerulea. I am curious to how that fruit comapres to phoenecia. Lastly, I hand pollinated passiflora etna with caerulea and while it set fruit, I did not like it one bit. I love trying out new types. I see you are wearing a California shirt. I am in SoCal zone 10b trying out over 15 types of passiflora :)

      Oh, that is so cool. What area since it zone 10b? I’m in 10a so I have a little bit less or fewer options. What’s your favorite tasting one then? So far mine has been Passiflora laurifolia or however, you spell it, it reminds me of sweet coconut water. I can usually only get it when I’m in Hawaii and I wish I could grow out here but of course I haven’t been able to, but I heard that P feotida or how do you spell that one also taste like coconut so I’m looking forward to tasting those. Would love to buy seeds for me of ones that you really like the taste of. Glad you’re able to get the vitifolia back up and growing

I started planting flowers to attract them and I’ve been bitten less. But now I’ve a new problem swarms of giant dragon flies so maybe don’t listen to me.

      Love it and will do. I have some good information about it, but unfortunately, some of it involves exclusion, which doesn’t hurt the animal but then when it comes to things like rats, you sometimes have to control their populations. I’ll work on that next. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Sorry ya lost so many plants to animals. Hopefully you find some of those plants again someday. Having a hard time deciding what seeds to select on Bellamy trees, but hopefully I’ll have a few fun things from them soon to join in on the unusual and rare trees. Growing a bunch of seedlings from fruit I got at various supermarkets like jackfruit, cherimoya, soursop, sugar apple, star fruit, some citrus and some others…workin on some pomegranate and paw paw too, but I want to grow some rarer stuff too. This info about the raccoons I think will help me out a lot. You gonna try to replace some of the trees you lost, or are ya gonna wait till next season to check?

    • @FancyPlants
      @FancyPlants 18 днів тому

      I think I’ll be more selective in what I get from now on and instead of getting 100 at a time, I’ll get a manageable amount and grow them out. I know what you mean by having a hard time selecting what to get especially from Bellamy. if you need any suggestions, let me know. Where are you grinding your stuff out? I’m assuming somewhere warmer if you’re able to find all that stuff at supermarkets? Thanks for watching the video by the way!
