Tasting Eugenia pyriformis again and wow, both fruits are so different!

- Join me as I pick an taste test Eugenia pyriformis, a very rare fruit here in the USA.
I love growing unusual fruits that I have never heard of before and getting the chance to watch them grow, enjoy the flowers and eat the fruit.
Eugenia is a species that has some really interesting fruits. Some taste amazing and others taste insipid and awful. This particular tree is always different so I never know what to expect.
Watch as I taste two fruits from the same tree picked at the same time, and boy are they both different.
I'll end with a quick tasting of Eugenia uniflora black that I grew from seed, and it's sooo good. So sweet and delicious that it's a must grow fruit. I'll also give a pick of my two rows of Eugenia high density planting.
Please like and subscribe to my channel so I can grow and continue to bring you informational videos about tons of rare plants. Many more coming soon!

Excited to see your other eugenias! that chocolate tasting one sounds really interesting
That’s E coronata. What’s so cool about it is that it is a small and beautiful plant so it’s super ornamental. But what a weird fruited tree. The first year they all tasted like a chocolate covered raisin to me so I was blown away. The second year it was more atypical kind of just Cherry with only a hint of chocolate, but that could possibly be because our seasons are so weird. One year was really cold. The next year were really hot so it’s all over the place.
You're back!
Surinam Cherry dominant odor is perfectly encapsulated by 1 plant ------------> curry leaf
Great video, the cat and the explanations were top notch!
lol thanks!!
Want!
Hello from South Africa. So jealous of your beautiful collection, as someone who lives in in a frosty arid desert with huge temperature swings, and who also like collects rare fruit.
Hi! Thanks for watching! What kinds of stuff can you grow in that climate? How about kei apple?
@@FancyPlants I've been propagating hundreds of Kei Apples. We use them as security hedges. I've also got lots of pineapple guava which is very hardy. Cacti and succulents are obviously very numerous. I've managed to grow lots of passiflora mollissima which is surprisingly hardy. Prickly pears are weedy here. We have highs of 45c and lows of -5c. So very hostile. I also have loquats and Dwarf Tamarillos. And regular Tamarillos, though they always die back in winter before fruiting. 😔
@@aaronmayne6138Cyphomandra corymbiflora and C. fragrans have some frost tolerance. There are also hybrids between the two
Guabiju might also work for you, it's from the same region as Feijoa
@@XoroksComment growing of them. After 10 I finally have 1 bloom!!! 😂😂
I've put off getting pyriformis because I had heard they were very sour, damn you Kelly, just made me want it now!
😂😂😂😂😂
when I see your videos I'm quickly reminded that I'm not a collector but I want to be :). looking forward to more eugenia taste tests.
Let the hoarding begin!
I started growing out the "Uvaia Doce" variety of Pyriformis this year, looks like I made a wise decision. Thanks for sharing! :D
Nice. And anytime! Where did you get your variety? I'm always looking for new stuff. :)
@@FancyPlants Bellamy Tree's is my go-to. He's always got some fun stuff available!
@@shawarrior I used to import all of my seeds for myself with a seed permit, but since people like him came to town, I just let them do the hard work and buy from them as well lol
great video! how old is your tree?
Thanks. I would say around 8-9 years
Maybe they sweeten up the longer they ripen on the tree?
The one that was bigger and older was more sour than the smaller one that was sweeter so I am going to guess it's not that. Last year I waited till they dropped on their own and it was even more sour. I think it's a factor of temperatures, water, etc.
Do you have any jaboticaba hybrids for sale?
Which state is this & zone?
California zone 10 but this one can maybe maybe maybe go to 9b but not sure
