The BYD Atto 3 charging infrastructure
Tell them if you get on motorway and travel between 60 to 75 mph you will shrink the range by 20% per mile distance, with ac blasting out or heater up in mid to top you will bring the range even lower 😢 BUT Not so if you poodle about in town traffic
Fast charge time wise seems pretty good till you reach about 50 ish percent. Any how the cost 😢 of you charging is High cost 😢😢. Say 53 khw x 79p per kilowatt, did you have pay 40 plus quid ? To get to 100% for about 235 just charged ev miles . Thats about 17/18 p a mile 😢😢😢😢😢😢. Public chargings a no no for me unless i am desperate. Plug in overnight , much more economical 😂😂 . I wouldnt have been tempted to buy a ev if i had too public charge only.
The battery has also a reserve as not all of it is usable. They do that so the battery will not fully discharged as this hurts the battery a lot.
at 79p per kwh driving EV is more expensive than driving a diesel car
Most of the public chargers are at extortion rates unfortunately - it's good that most people can charge at home on 7p/kWh !
@@ruspashov2514 most people live in apartments and can't charge at home. also the national average price (as of July 2024) per kWh of electricity is £0.22.
@@InternetExplorer-s9g flat dwellers that didn't do their research , silly Billy's.
@@ellisrochlin2267 they would never buy an EV if they did research
Its clearly the future but at the moment, the only people who i know have electric cars are either of pension age, or have them as company cars. I dont know anyone under 68 who has an electric car because we cant afford them. Honestly, i bought my last car for less than a set of tyres for my dads new EV. Thats the gulf between current EV pricing and real world spare cash people have.
Hey. Thanks for sharing. If you allow me saying, try to get an ODB2 scanner since it will allow you to correctly track the SOC before start charging and than again at the end of the process. The value showed at the charging station is not the exact amount of KWs that the car has indeed charged, since there are few losses between the charger and the car's inner converter. Also part of the energy, while charging is used as you said by the BMS to cool down battery. Thanks again!
Try using Car Scanner, and an OBD device, it will tell you exactly how many KWh you have when the battery is at 100% SOC (or at any other level of charge). My Kia Soul EV (Mk 1), has lost 0.9KWh over 8 years; but then, it only had 27KWh to start with; that equates to about 4 miles of range.
front seat ventilated necessary
😂 if you live in hotter country than Britain and get sweaty backside , I agree. Here in UK the heated seat component is a must for at least 6 months .Hate to have to do the journey in winter with thick coat and scarf .
the 58kwh that you are seeing on the charger its the delivered energy and theres alway energy loss when charging so that doesn't meen its delivered to the battery
yes, we can see from the start of the video that the charger is/was zero (allowing the few seconds after charge started)
10 percent loss
79p per kwh!! Ouch. Public DC fast chargers in Thailand average about 23 US cents per kwh. My off peak Time Of Use meter at home is 7 US cents per kwh.
I home charge overnight , works out about 11/12 cents in your currency
Would there be reserve kWh in EV's battery just like how there is a fuel reserve tank in petrol cars?
There is. Manufacturers will tell you that the battery size is 80kwh of which only 77kwh are usable. And that is to account for degradation and potentially running to 0% (which you should never ever do).
I own a BYD Dolphin and after 1 year and 30,000 km, everything looks ok.
There is a problem with the BYD AC system. It is not good. There have been multiple complaints in Australia.
Recently we had a 35 C day in Winter in Brisbane, Australia. My Atto 3 AC was set on Lo, and it was barely adequate. It will be hotter in summer. I am going to wrap the panoramic roof in white vinyl and put solar reflective coating on the windows, but this is a problem with BYD AC. Not as good as Toyota AC.
The massive discounts on the forecourts indicate not.
Funny I just bought one and I didn't see any massive discounts and I got the 4th car I viewed 3 were bought from under me before I got back to the dealers.
It is well to remember that most government officials apparently majored in transgender dance therapy at university and their scientific and engineering knowledge comes from watching all the Star Wars movies.
EV are the future. Battery tech is evolving at a breakneck pace. EVs are already becoming cheaper than ICE cars and Hybrids. Just check out the new Xpeng MONA M03 which starts at $17kUS, and the Neta S Hunter which starts at $22.5kUS. In comparison the starting price for a Camry is now $28kUS.
You should read each machine watt power first I think
2030 there will be loads of 2nd hand petrol n deisel, so unfortunately, it won't be until the early 2040s when petrol n deisel will become just museum exhibits
Bicycles and walking is the future
The ideal solution would be an e-bike with a solar trailer.
@@aftonline and bike lanes
You are so right! 11 below zero, snowing, and a 20 knot wind .... who wouldn't want to bicycle 12 km home from work in the dark.
@@aceroadholder2185 Exactly, I do love how Green Extremeists want Grandma at 70 to walk or ride a bike to the grocery store etc. just devoid from Reality.
Crazy how one person’s view of something can be completely different from another. A fantastic car.
No
On a extended range what is the max distance obtained?
This bloke has to eat raw bread, what a bummer!
Motability has the current Citroen C3 Aircross for £195 advance for 130 max and £595 for the 110 max, the retail for these is £24,240 and £22,660 respectively. The new E-C3 retails from £21,990. As more EVs become available the prices will come down.
EVs - present & future
Is the recorder constantly recording? If so, what's the storage capacity before having to delete older recordings?
Evs are perfectly ok for some people. My wife and my parents love their EVS they pop around town and cover hardly any distance at all. I do many long journeys 300-350 miles especially around scotland and south wales. EVs are pretty useless for me. My little dacia does 500 miles on a tank so its ideal. To get an ev to do my journeys you are looking at 50-60k. These cars should be allowed to settle into society and not mandated or forced on everyone.
Nobody yet has been forced to buy an electric car. You will always retain the choice about whether you wish to own one.
Do you never eat or sleep or go anywhere for each 500 miles if you do that's when you charge.
that kinda distance is no reason not to get an EV mine does 200 miles to a charge in winter 250 in summer 10-80% is about 30 mins I imagine after 4-5 hours driving you get out for a piss and a bite to eat by the time you get back to the car its good to go again. The only problem is fast chargers cost equivalent amount per mile as diesel
Nope. Should rename your channel.
NO. HYDRO IS.
NOT with the current batteries.
Just as ICE has no future relying on fossil fuels, which one day will no longer be viable... The batteries in my Kia eNiro have managed to get me everywhere I've needed to go over the past 3+ years, including one 400+ mile round trip in a single day, charging just once during the journey....
still after 30+ years, thermal runaway and degrading are not solved, and will take another 30 years if ever
@@greengooflight Your right, and it does not take an Engineer or Genious to see the Fatal problem. Green Liberal Progressive Extremeists need to be shut down as it harms america.
@@greengooflight How long have petrol cars been on the road? have they ever solved the thermal runaway with them? also as for degradation my car is 3 years old with 88k km and at 4% degradation you have to expect up to 10% in the first few years and extremely slow degradation after that so......🤷♂. There are so disadvantages with EVs but what you are saying is just generic rhetoric with nothing to back it up.
What car is it?
He mentioned that he has a BYD. John Cadogan says that means "Burn Your Driveway."
without a home charger I am not sure if having an EV is a good idea tbh. Charging is more expensive than fuel if not at home.
Excellence have headup display and the ones with a trailer hitch, wil move a 1500kg trailer instead of a 750kg one.
What did BYD say? Have you shown them this issue?
Made in china 👎👎👎👎👎
Truly helpful for the non techy pensioner , most appreciated as I bought my lovely green design 2024 plate from a used dealer who sells multi brands who also is a pensioner so he wasn't up on the tech side . You mention it could be a little more intuitive or have more in depth info via the tablet/screen and possibly a larger info screen behind steering wheel . It's really a 20 odd grand car . Import duties , vat , transport costs from China along with UK dealer margins on low selling volumes bumps up the price tag considerably.
Thanks once again for your time. Your lucky you've got Android Auto & browser. I don't seem to be able to get it on my Atto.
Build quality is so bad
You should test the toaster by itself to see if there is a problem
Finally is your ac working properly ?
re. naming cars My 2nd hand Atto 3 arrived last week. I named him Daffyd, because he's the only EV in the village. :)
A small tip for most cars to improve cooling is to ensure air is recycling inside as opposed to being passed through. When passing through air from outside gets passed inside and this could be warm air. When on recycle mode the cool air is recycled. Hope this helps.
Game over for Tesla
My Seal has a very low warning sound now with the latest update (in uk), so hopefully it's coming for the Atto. The ICC is nowhere near as bad as I had feareed either, but that is somewhat road dependant.
I drive the atto3 on the Uber platform in Sydney this car is a real surprise package it literally gets better as you drive it I have put 113.000 klm in 15 months and after 8 OTA software updates the car runs better than showroom, that sounds ridiculous right except it’s true, the quality of the materials are so good after 15,000 people have been through the car it still looking looking new. The truth is the manufacturer Byd has found a way to make a car that will test the will of time.
Agree, they are great. I don't find the charging time an issue. On trips I co-ordinate it with a coffee break. The trick is to fully charge before you set out on a long trip, and charge when you reach 30% but only to 80%, that way you get the fastest rates. That should take about 20mins, just long enough for a coffee and pee. I also have a TM3 it goes about 10% further at highway speeds, but the Atto is still my preferred drive.
Are you doing uber or taxi with the car? How many times you charge per day if you are doing uber. I'm in RSA and this car is available in RSA albeit at a hefty price.
Do you fast charge or charge at home?
13:01 BYD can set that if the Head lights are on, should be disable the low speed sound by itself.
Yet again another great video EV Bloke. Just 1 question? Have you dyed your hair ?
No but my wife had😂
