Aprilia RS660 Mod Upgrades Pt5
Hey everyone, and welcome back to the channel!
Remember that whole "Suzuki GSXR600 breaking down at Anglesey" saga? Yeah, that's what kicked off this whole RS660 adventure, continuing from parts 1, 2, 3, and 4. Turns out, my poor GSXR decided it preferred being a failed sculpture rather than a track bike. So, the Aprilia RS660 became the chosen one. Let's just say the journey to get it track-ready involved some... *interesting* moments. Think IKEA instructions, but in Chinese or no instructions at all! Having to guess how some parts fit, an even make parts fit. Luckily, I have friends who are mechanically inclined, so we eventually wrestled the parts onto the bike. Almeria was the big test for thRS660 in 2024, and thankfully, the RS660 didn't disappoint. It performed like a champ, even under the scorching Spanish sun. I'm pretty sure I could have fried an egg on my leathers.
Anyway, we're back at it again! This video is all about the *next* round of upgrades for the RS660. We're adding even more goodies, so prepare for some serious bike porn. Hit that subscribe button so you don't miss out on the mechanical mayhem (and my inevitable struggles).

BMW 225XE Hybrid - non start

Welcome back, gearheads! Today's episode features a BMW 225 Hybrid that decided to play a cruel joke on me. Imagine this: I'm cruising along, enjoying the hybrid bliss, when BAM! The dash throws a hissy fit with this message: "Do not switch off the engine. You cannot start after the engine is switched off." Talk about a mood killer! Naturally, I ignored it (just kidding, I didn't). But then, th...

    Hi Mels, great piece of information! I need to do a valve service on my Dorsoduro 900 and I found your video very useful. Could you tell me how long shuld be the extension for the CDI gauge and what kind of shims did you use, dimensions, brand, etc. Also please tell me the size (diameter and lenght) for the pins to be inserted into the camshafts and for the pins preventing the gears from moving. I've just looked at my tech data for the shim size and it doesn't tell me, I usually measure them when I take them out and compare them to the sizes in my shim kits! Just went onto the parts catalogue and then googled the number for you and it's 9.5mm wide. And I use ProX shims or genuine ones. You can also use a screw driver to find TDC, I used a gauge so you guys could see, I hope this helps! 👍🙂

    Interesting that this car would not run with a traction battery fault, despite having an internal combustion engine. The take-away for me was the importance of a competent pre-purchase inspection for anyone considering buying any used vehicle that has a traction battery system fitted to it. I think we're finally starting to wake up to the reality of owning these EV/Hybrid vehicles and understanding the myths and global politics that are force feeding this technology to us. The "DON"T TRY THIS AT HOME" smile on your face spoke a thousand words. Well done all.

    I dont quite understand the U1900 code still.. My instrument cluster was resoldered yesterday will all solder joints re-flowed. But i still get that U1900 code and sometimes a code for PATS. Now i know a ford focus will only start with the cluster in the car, but my focus starts even without the cluster for some reason. Being that my focus is on its second engine and probably its second instrument cluster. Might explain why i still get a PATS code and U1900 even though im no longer having dash cluster issues anymore. My car all afternoon yesterday and all morning early today my XR5 has been running great ever since the resoldering was done

    • @melsmotors

      There are other reasons for this coming on as well, in very rare cases there's an earth under the battery tray area that bolts to the chassis, this can also cause the issue. We have soldered the board in the past and had the same fault, so we had to solder it again and it was solved! Good luck 👍

    Wow way you took that rotor out I’d never use you I’m affraid You were so lucky not to drop either the washers into the engine! Plus you changed an exploded hand grenade with another ticking time bomb. Upgraded rotor is smooth and is £200 not 700 So glad that wasn’t my bike 😮

    Watch this video on how NOT to replace a timing chain in a 1.6 TVP. How you have the audacity to show people a chain replacement and get it wrong in so many ways is beyond me. Chain not on in correct place as coloured links are in the wrong place, timing just guessed and out, top pulley on back to front but in totally the wrong place. Yes still run but not as it should. Stick to what you know and not what you don’t….😠😡

      @@RichardHughes-o7i nice, I like the way you mock peoples hard work without your own video, your own insights, nothing! Quit your complaining and make the effort to do something useful. I can almost guarantee you don't complain about all the crap that's on the BBC but you mock on here just because you can! Get a life mate! You watched this video because you needed to! These chains don't always come with coloured links because there's a floating pulley! This isn't a tutorial. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🙂

      @ I didn’t watch it because I needed to, I do these daily. I only fit genuine or Febi chains and I’ve never seen one that doesn’t have coloured links. There is a floating pulley yes for which you should use the correct locking kit to set it correctly. All you did was time it to where there stretched chain had left it so the timing is definitely incorrect. The timing should be reset when a chain is replaced to do the job correctly, not marking with tippex.

      @melsmotors Місяць тому

      @RichardHughes-o7i it's clear now from your comment that you didn't watch the video, chains don't stretch mate! Chains wear out on the link pins giving the illusion of stretching, they're made of steel not chewing gum, if you watch the video you may learn something, plus this engine has timing marks, also in the video, timing tools weren't required, also in the video I use tech data which shows timing marks, there were tools required for this engine with this engine code, also in the video. So what you're saying is that you didn't watch the video but you just decided in your wisdom to mock it! 😔🫣😂

    Isn't this clutch the system in cars? Do the new model moto guzzis have this mechanism now? Are models with 2 clutch pads being produced? Or are there models with pressure pads?

    • @melsmotors
      @melsmotors Місяць тому

      @@nx4kz-mit yes this is like a car clutch, very similar to a 90s golf and polo clutch. Not sure about the new ones, there doesn't seem to be change in the engines! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍☺️

      @melsmotors Some moto guzzis have 2 pad disks. This model has a pressure spring and 1 pad disk. How many pad disks in which models?

      @melsmotors Місяць тому

      @SY-nx4kz I don't know, I've not seen a twin clutch version yet! If you really want to know you can search an online parts catalogue and see which ones have a twin plate clutch! 👍
