Bloodhound's Fang Is Loved For A Reason
For defensive purposes the ash of war is great
If I remember correctly, the reason why the Heavy attacks seem so different from the Heavy Thrusting Sword heavies is because uh... they aren't. The Sword Lance has the same heavy attacks as Greatspears like the Lance. Thus it has H. Thrusting Sword lights, and Greatspear heavies, giving it the name "Sword Lance" after all. (Its running attack is also a Greatspear move.)
@zylowolfzan3345 You remember correctly! Just tested it out, the light attacks are the heavy thrusting sword attacks, and the heavy attacks are the same as the Mohgwyn Sacred Spear, making the heavies a touch slower than the heavy attacks of a weapon like the Dragon King's Cragblade.
It's a nice weapon but as far as heavy thrusting swords go I tend to prefer the Ancient Dragon Cragblade. I'm not a fan of the HTS movest so I go with my favorite AoW lol
@@KurwaRomek Indeed, thundercloud form is still a favorite of mine!
Doing a blood build with this weapon and the spinning ash of war just breaks the game!
Is this HardLegGaming?
It took me SO long to figure out how to get semi-consistent parries, but I finally did it after around 1k hours myself. The thing that finally made it start to click for me was finally being able to actually see my parry window, visually. Get a buckler (they're the absolute best for parrying, but small shields are a pretty close second,) and go stand with your nose up against a wall and parry the wall. If nothing happens, try a different wall. When you get it right you'll hear a click sound and see sparks. Those sparks denote your parry window. It was actually a lot earlier than I imagined since the Buckler has a weird sort of two-part animation. The other thing that changed parrying for me was the idea of parrying the enemy's hand, not their weapon. The final thing that really got me rolling was going back to where everything started, back to Gatefront Ruins, where the enemies barely tickle me and I can practice without dying constantly. I dumped all my runes into arrows and smithing stones so I had nothing to lose, and got to work. I got out my Buckler and started clearing the ruin, but the rule I set for myself (the parry challenge) was no dodging (unless I really need it, like against some of the misbegotten attacks I just can't hit,) and no attacking except for as a riposte after a successful parry. Once I got through the Gatefront parry challenge a few times (those spear enemies are HELL to try and parry at first,) I went to Stormveil and worked my way through there. Then Castle Morne, Purified Ruins, Redmane Castle, etc., graduating to more and more risky areas each time. That's what you've gotta do. Get a Buckler, parry a wall a few times to see where in time your parry window lies, and then just get to work practicing ONLY parrying. Trust me, if I can do it, you absolutely can. I'm 36, so basically an elderly person. My reaction times are so shot, but I can parry now, and you can do it too.
I was wondering, do you prefer ng+ to ng? I find a ng in ER particularly to be a bit of a slog. But I get connected enough to my builds and characters that I don't want to respec on ng+ runs 😅.
@amcname8789 I greatly prefer NG+ cycles over starting out on NG. Not only do i already have a build ready at the start of the run, but i get to test out my build and playstyles on harder, if not the hardest version of bosses. I used to do NG runs for all my playthroughs at the beginning, but it was annoying grabbing all the sacred tears every week, and I grew to prefer the challenge of NG+7!
You can use a shield in the left hand and attune scholar' shield. Any medium shield is enough
this weapon is really good, it was flying over the radar, before the last patch the weapon was bugged, the ash of war did not have hyper armor. Now it is one of the best for PVE
this is one of my favorite pve channels
@bbyponk Thanks dude!
People are seriously sleeping on this weapon. I have both of mine infused with bleed with the poison mist ash of war, and its base damage is very respectable especially compared to the other rot weapons, it has A scaling in strength and D in arcane. It also looks really cool on my fire paladin.
Just got it yesterday
I just started powerstancing this weapon today, and I’m a firm believer in its potential.
Sry to ask Is there anyone who have the game pre ordered T-T?
black flame protection reduces self healing effects?, or did i misunderstood the spell
@jh_Fregion it does, but the protection it provides is greater than the self healing nerf, being 35% verses 20%
@the_jersey_side i see thx, it kind of reminds me of ds1 where u can go full havel an face tank all of the four kings attacks xD, nice build btw
@jh_Fregion thanks dude!!!
Havel the Golem.
Add ironjar aromatic and malenia's rune and you dont even have to dodge in many fights, just stand there and trade with prayerful strike
This is my favorite weapon in the game. Crazy range, high damage, unique moveset. So many good ash of war options like prayerful strike, lighting slash, waves of darkness etc. You can hit enemies a mile away with lions claw and the one handed rolling attack. It might have less damage than the giant crusher but the range and lower requirements totally make up for it in my opinion
I haven't done a defense focused build since DS1. I had so much trouble back then, so I made a new character and went full tank, and used Havel's set. I finished the game, but it was so effective the victory felt weirdly hollow. Still, I need to branch out from my dex/int builds -.- I love the rut I'm stuck in but a str/fth would be a nice change Finally got Shadow of the Erdtree, currently loving Milady. Tried out movesets for a couple things, backhand blades shredded, but oh my god I feel so elegant with milady. Traveler's set with the altered commoner's headband, your love of light armor rubbed off on me. The different combos are so fun. I go through them slowly and just watch the transition between moves for the fun of it. Slowly moving through the DLC and I'll be trying Sword of Night, but I can't imagine not finishing the run with Milady Dryleaf blew my mind but I'm not totally sure about them. Waiting on your inevitable video, whenever that ends up being lmao
@@hahanosrryggl223 Milady is the perfect first DLC run weapon. Whole new weapon class, infusible, and strings different attacks into combos like no other weapon. I'm glad you're trying out light rolls, too! I find it super underutilized. Once you get into the light roll playstyle, it's hard to go back! I haven't tried Dryleaf Arts yet, but they're on the list! Quick, fast attack patterns are right up my alley!!
Jumper
I’m about to change my build to a Mohg build. Hopefully lvl 125 will make it broken.
0:17 holy shit, i just noticed that the first time you encounter the omenkiller was in lirunia of the lakes in nepheli quest was surrounded with dogs just like in ds1 😮
if only was a straight sword...
This looks like Yhwach’s sword
THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED my gravity mage is complete now, thanks we appreciate people like yall who do these titourials for clueless people like us.
@@Lightherlard2001 Anytime, thanks for watching!!!
This weapon is funny to use against shield pokers in pvp. They think they can just block the ash but in reality they just get melted through the guard. If they somehow are still standing after that, I just swap to something like pata and finish them as they panic roll away. This thing’s an absolute trading machine
you are so goddamn underrated man i love this weapon
No bullshit, I had to EARN this weapon lol.
well actually ☝🤓 bloodhound claws and bloodflame gonna have more dps ☝🤓 (adding some nerdiness the bloodhound claws have best damage when you low on levels and hookclaws when you have enough of levels to boost the scaling, in additional just became Senator Armstrong and use Endure AoW, godskin swaddling cloth and malenia's great rune, i have no life)
i tried to use some meta weapons on the dlc on my first run, when i said fuck it, i used my trusty Claymore at +18 with piercing fang, and it only took one try on rellana.
I'm shocked how is it still possible for From to make weapons like Claws of Night which are just lovely to play with, DPS aside of course. Claws moveset is already sweet and while they can struggle against shield - they have magic damage and bleed. And throwing possibilities? Yeah, they can throw off a lot of people in pvp. And then we have hammers...
Never felt the hype for this weapon tbh. It's... boring, imo.
I recommend the falx for a powerstanced curved sword build with passive bleed. They are paired already so you don't need ng+ or someone to drop another one like with scavenger's curved sword. Also, the skill is absolutely wild on it.
god damn u odnt undestand a single thing to do in this video :) i just bought the game
This almost feels illegal to watch. 😂 That's insanely good damage 😮
i recommend fire scorpion charm and dragoncrest greatshield talisman +2 for the other talisman's
I did a bleed+jump attack focused build with curved swords similarly. Tbh a little awkward for various reasons. Especially at lower levels. Bc scavenger curved sword is 1 per run and very low damage. While bandit curved sword with bleed has better damage but awkward scaling. And the bleed in general is disappointing these days. Focusing on consecutive attack gives more damage, but bleed stuff is part of that. Maybe the medium is doing poison self buffing along with something like poison hand or poison perfume. But honestly maybe the way to go is just pure damage and consecutive attack boosting, and that might be more than enough for insane damage. And ignore the somewhat cheesy bleed/poison attack boosts, esp since consecutive attack is by far the biggest boost. Especially if also using faith buffs, that will make up for it. I wonder even if some kind of strength/fire or just pure faith-flame art would be the best way to go along with flame grant me strength and other buffs. Or dex int frost, maybe a bandit in one hand and wing of astel in other. And I do think the bandit swords are supposed to be really good for pure elemental (so I guess flame art/magic/etc) The weapon art i used was raptor of the mists, very fun for such a build but probably if you know the bosses so well not particularly necessary.
@albegade Bleed doesn't feel as OP as it did a couple years ago, so I did consider self inflicting it, that would've given me a bit more damage in fights with super high or perfect bleed resist. The poison perfume Ash might be the way to go for the poison or rot buff. The hefty Rot Pots will deal a ton of damage but can be tricky to land. I've actually never used raptor in the mist, but it looks really effective in dodging some real tricky attacks, like Metyr's beam in phase 2
Not only does the DLC don't include any black flame related stuff, black flame against DLC bosses do less % damage. Still, such a missed opportunity. Black flame is cool and this sword is one of my favourites.
The storm huh?
@ 1:24 is litterally the only times ive gotten consistent parry with either the buckler or small shield ^^
2000 hours in and still never actually given this weapon a go 😅 I have like 8 of them in my inventory just never bothered with it for some reason. Might give it a go….some day 😝
I wish there was one for incants. That would go sooo hard. I get that some of the infants are AoW (like golden vow) but stilllll WHY ISNT THERE AN INCANT SWORD?
I've ran the numbers several times. HS and the DMGS are neck and neck IMO, but like everything else; it depends on your build. HS looks cooler, though.
John Knight remains godlike.
This thing should've gotten some boost to all Carian sorceries (perhaps 10% to all, including glintblade, sword, and moon) to compensate for it's shit cast scaling. Or, perhaps some mechanic by which if you use a sword sorcery and connect with the blade of the weapon, you deal bonus damage. Something. Anything...
When I first heard about it i thought that it would have the similar buffs to the Carian Glintstone Staff. I had fun beating the game with it, but if I ever need a high DPS casting build this is the last thing I'd whip out
Please tell me the talismans buffs etc for this build. Also what upgrades etc should i do with that dagger
Not that the DLC out, my talisman setup would be Blade of Mercy, Dagger Talisman, and Dragoncrest greatshield. 4th one would either be Two Headed Turtle Talisman or another defensive Talisman, depending on the fight. The Ash of War on the dagger won't matter since we use parry on the buckler. Just keen infuse it and level dex!
@the_jersey_side thank you ❤
The sword is sooo long
Women never choose men as their character if there’s a choice to use a woman, but lots of men choose women as their characters. This only occurs in video games.
I paired the carian thrusting sword with the main-gauche. You get a cool dual-wielding moveset and a parry in combination with spellcasting.
You are a rare breed of off hand parrying dagger and I respect it. I’m not alone!
I love it but i cant help but feel its a sign that fromsofts design is beginning to age. We’re getting hype about something that oblivion was doing with it’s magic
