Bosnia's Last Diverse Town 🇧🇦
Most people haven’t heard of the town of Glamoč in West Bosnia, but I recently took a journey here because it is the most diverse town in Bosnia. It is the biggest town in Bosnia which contains a considerable amount of Bosniak Muslims, Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs. Join me and explore this beautiful little town and talk to people from all 3 ethnic groups.

As another foreigner who has lived in BiH I was always very careful to avoid judging any group of people. I noticed trends in bahviour in the different countries. The trends of behaviour are not so far from the historical teasing that the Yugoslavs had for one another before the war. Call it stereotyping if you wish, but they probably have some basis in the cultures from before the war. I appreciate each group for this, it means that there is still traditional identity irrespective of the the horrific war.

I would argue and say that "jokes" , "stereotypes" and "teasing" back in the day actually were slowly creating a solid ground for future dehumanization prior to the actual wars.

Thank you for this informative video. I had no idea there were only 43 Croats in Glamoc before the war. Also hats off for being unbiased and looking at it from all three angles. Interestingly though, only Serbs did not mention anything about their church and houses being burnt during the war. It is evident that Serbian church was recently rebuilt because there were no icons on the walls and even on entrance to the altar. According to the lady the church was originally built in 1910, so it is certain that it was destroyed during the war in the 90ies, otherwise all the walls and the altar entry wall would have icon paintings. Not sure if the mosque was destroyed in the war, but I would guess that it was. Your video demonstrates that there are good and bad people on all sides, and that the civil war in BiH is a million shaded of gray and very far from black and white.

In 1990, 75% of 'BOSNIANS' and 'HERZEGOVINIANS' gave their votes to nationalist parties. So, BiH was divided before the war. Ditto for Croatia, Serbia and don't even get me started on the Albanians, by far the most insular nation in the EX-YU. What does all this show? That in systems of governance where people are voting for their own 'nationalist' parties, ethnic co-existence is impossible.

Kudos to you for learning the language so well. Your level of fluency is truly impressive. But (and I'm sure you've heard that already) it sounds very disrespectful to address strangers with the informal form (singular second-person), especially older people! I'd advise you to always use the PLURAL form when addressing strangers, other than children. So say: "kako ste?" and never "kako si?" - again, especially when talking to senior citizens. You can't really go wrong with the plural (formal) form, but the singular one (informal) can sound terribly disrespectful. Most people understand that you're not a native speaker and won't take it personally. But, even with that, it's just the sound of it that's almost painful in this language. Sorry if I'm the one passing as rude here, but I'm really trying to be helpful bc I'm a big fan of your channel. Edit: I see other comments mentioning this issue too.

I know Bosnia from before the war and I always thought they were the friendliest and most open people in the former Yugoslavia. Ethnicity never played a role. So I was shocked when I was confronted with the brutality of the conflict. Many Bosnians told me that the violence was stimulated by external forces from Serbia and Croatia. I still miss the old, open, ethically mixed Bosnia. But it is easy to make an omelette from an egg, but an omelette will never be an egg again.
