Hey y'all, my name is Mike, AKA: Halfmilesniper. I'm a Jack of All Trades, Master of None and I hope to bring y'all along for the ride with me as I bumble my way through retirement.
A little about me, I retired in 2016 after more than 30 years in the US Border Patrol. I was a member of the Border Patrol Pistol Team and still shoot in pistol competitions. I addition to competitive pistol, I shoot long rifle for fun. and draw my user name from my longest shot (actually a tick over 5/8th of a mile).
Besides shooting I do a little work on guns and reload ammunition. Outside of the shooting world I cook and homebrew beer I also do some woodworking and carpentry. I even do automotive work and have dabbled in welding too. As I said, a Jack of All Trades.
Feel free to come along for the ride.

Halfmilesniper shoots a pistol match
The song fits perfectly. Not even a Slight Touch On Pedal.
I thought it almost looked like he accelerated coming up on the stop sign....
What a dumb-@$$ video. So what if the guy blew out the stop sign.
The person wanted to feel better about having to drive a Toyota when their last sports car went bye bye to road rage. Wild guess
LOL, I can see that.
I do that, too. It's pitch dark out. You can clearly see NOBODY coming toward you in all three directions. I call it common sense.
It's pitch dark out is EXACTLY why you should stop. What if a black car with lights off is speeding and also doesn't stop?
@WesleyBryie retards all around. Crash warranted.
@WesleyBryie then I would aim carefully.
Except, there was a car immediately behind him...me. Now, what if I was driving a marked unit at the time...he'd be getting pulled over RFN and pinched for running that stop sign. Also, I am going to make an assumption that you are not familiar with this stretch of road... Quite often there are a number of homeless folks walking on the side of the road through here...pretty much 24/7. And, for some weird reason they all wear dark clothing. Yea, the stop sign may be a money generator for the county, but it is still a traffic law to be obeyed.
There's a really huge difference between "you can see nobody" and "you can't see anybody". I would suggest you to stop driving at all
Mike, had to chuckle with you getting started. Wanted to see how the 6mm Creedmoor stacks up against my 243. Another great video. Thanks for what you do.
Sometimes you just have to leave in the mistakes for the humor...no sense hiding it, lol. Thanks for watching!
Like the song my friend
It is very fitting...isn't it? lol
Hi Halfmile, lot of those type of drivers here especially the dark people. Greetings my friend.
they are everywhere Francois...and it is scary. One really has to keep their head on a swivel and be watching for these guys 100% of the time. Stay safe over there.
Awesome 👌 👏 👍
I still need to test it under fire...was going to try this past weekend but getting sick changed those plans. Kinda difficult to make a video when you can't talk, lol.
@Halfmilesniper hope you feel better soon
@ slowly getting my voice back. Hope it is back to normal...or close, quickly
What mag are you using?
I had to talk to the folks at MDT to figure the correct mag. Since the Howa is a long action, I needed the ACIS/MDT 3.715" metal mag for the 300 WSM. MDT also advised to load the rounds as close to 3.0 inches OAL as possible to ensure proper feeding. My loading close to the lands has me right at 2.995" or so.
@ I reached out to MDT and they told me the same except they said 300 WIN not 300 WSM.
@@charltonlwalker Apologies...I meant t say 300 Win Mag...not sure why I punched out WSM...weird. I'll blame the cold/laryngitis meds.
@@Halfmilesniperthank you! I figured that was the case. Great content.
Working towards a Darwin Award !
Yes they are, aren't they?
Can't believe you wasted time recording that. People won't change. If that's the worst thing you see on the road count your blessings.
I didn't waste any time...the dash cam is always recording, lol. I definitely have a strong dislike for red light and stop sign runners and the dash cam let's me share their stupidity with the world.
Rules change after Sunset . Hope they didn't have family in the car. 🙏
The dark windows prevented from seeing how many were in the car. No telling if this was a solo idiot or an idiot endangering his family or friends.
@Halfmilesniper Just hours ago we had a TDOT dump truck pulling one of the safety cushion barriers cut across the highway in front of car. Two were flown to hospital. It won't protect when hit in side of barrier. 🙏
@@billdye3530 Oooof...not good.
I work a night shift and I ride my bicycle to work and people like these are exactly why my parents worry so much.
Man, with the number of red light and stop sign runners I have captured on the dash camera I could not ever envision riding a bike to work in the dark. Definitely, do not let you parents watch these videos!
@ No definitely not lol. But I have flashers on my bike and I were a reflector vest. I also ride on the sidewalk cause I’m my state bikes can. I always use the cross walk even with no one around, especially at the last intersection I cross as it is part of the main highway and longer to cross than the others.
@@Halfmilesniper I also don’t live in a busy and bustling town. So the time I leave it’s late and the streets are pretty much empty.

Hello Sir, thank you very much for a great video! Have a question - I bought a Krag rifle today with a similar rear sight and I can't find any information on how to remove the bolt from the rifle with this sight installed. Do I need to remove the rear sight to remove the bolt, because otherwise I can't pull on the extractor - the rear sight is on the way? Thank you, hope you see this comment, I am going crazy here trying to figure this out :-)
Unfortunately, because of the clearance of the Lyman rear peep, you can't remove the bolt without removing the sight. If the sight was just a little higher off the action there would probably be room. On mine, I can open the bolt and lift the extractor just enough to get the bolt to start opening farther, but then the kifted extractor contacts the bottom of the sight and brings everything to a stop.
@@Halfmilesniper Thank you so much, understood!! Will try to remove the sight then!!! Thanks again for a quick response, you saved my Sat evening 🙂
@FunWithAGun this was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning... Before trying to remove the sight itself, see if yours has the scale on the side like mine. If so, note where it is set then loosen the locking screw and raise the rear sight as high as it will go. There might be room then. When done, simply return to the noted marks on the scale and you are in the ballpark. I apologize for not remembering to try that last night.
@@Halfmilesniper Thank you Sir, yes, that's exactly what I ended up doing - just lifted it up all the way and it was baaarely but enough to pull the bolt out! Thanks again for your help and for a great video!
Did you ever go any higher in powder charge? I am hoping to try the same bullet in a 24" barrel this summer.
I did, there is a follow on video but I hit a point where the cases started separating. I wan't to say it happened after I exceeded 2100 FPS...Can't remember off hand and don't have my notes available to verify. Fast might work OK in a bolt gun but definitely isn't/wasn't working well in the auto loader.
👍👍 looking good
Thanks Lance, I appreciate that.
Those automated powder tricklers are game changers!
Thanks Ernie, I really appreciate that. I will end up doing a video on this powder measure...but FA isn't going to like it I don't think. I'll just say I am less than impressed at this point in time.
Yea I’ll have to try those 144smk. I’ve sure got and have shot alotta 175s and 168s. So many deer n the yard I’ll have to take a #..✌🏻
I started shooting SMKs in my .308s...glad to see they are working well in th e6.5 PRC as well.
@@Halfmilesniper mags layin here with 175s,77s,gamekings,blitzkings,gamechanger and tmk. Try the 130-140tmk. 130@3220ish in waypoint and mean on jugs
Hi Halfmile! Very nice groups
Thanks...I thought so too!
I quit trusting my electric powder Trickler about month after buying it. I still use it but I'll set it to drop powder till it gets to about three or four grains shy of my target amount of powder. I'll then using my manual hand Trickler to get to where I need it to be. I know it seems like a pretty inefficient way of loading precise loads but, it works for me.
I am quickly learning the FA powder measure sucks...I'll will likely do a video on it once the 2nd replacement unit arrives...I'll just leave it at that for now. I will go back to using the RCBS Uniflow and trickler.
👏👏👏👋👋👋👋🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
Thnaks JC...glad you caught this one.
Very nice. Now for a whole new set of numbers if in fact the new powder measurer makes a difference
That was the plan, but I think it isn't going to work out the way I had hoped. Until I do a video on it I will just say I am losing faith the the Frankford Arsenal powder measure.
@@Halfmilesniper Wow I've never owned any of there stuff. But hope if it's something fixable they will do their part
@ so far, they have been sending out replacements...as in multiple. I wanted to disassemble one to see why it failed but the allen head screws are some sort of proprietary size, 3/16 too small 7/32 too big...maybe metric...nope...2mm too small 2.5 mm too big. Weird.
@@Halfmilesniper interesting
@ I was finally able to open the replacement they sent, I found a torx bit that just barely caught. The actual drive motor for the dispenser is what locked up on the replacement. I don't think I can get it freed. The next replacement is scheduled to arrive today.
Very nice
Thanks Albert!
Good work. Where did you get that mount for the Garmin or did you mfg. It yourself? I’m working on the 156 Bergers I’ll report back with my findings soon.
I ordered the mount from the Zero Fox Given website...so far it has worked well on both my 6 Creed and my 6.5 PRC. I will be loading up some 156 Bergers with Retumbo soon yself.
@ I’ve been under the weather lately haven’t done any loading but I have two boxes of 156 waiting for me. I’m going to start loading for a 20” barrel 6 mm Remington. My Dad bought two of them when they came out I do believe in ‘58 or ‘59 so much for this short barrel craze we have now! I harvested my first deer with one. I’ll be trying the 95 grain Berger and some others in that weight range up to 105 grain. My Dad liked Hornady 100 grain but I don’t care for that mfg. they are a neat little rifle open sights and they were ADL but my Dad converted them to BDL for safety unloading.
@@forrestebert5276 pretty much the same here...sinus infection drain into the chest has me all plugged up and hardly any voice. Gonna try the range tomorrow...might be a kind of quiet video, lol.
@@Halfmilesniper Take care of yourself as you don’t want it to go to a pneumonia! I might just mount a 6-24 on that 6mm just to be able to try to get the most accurate load. Like the old saying “ you can’t hit what you can’t see!”
The SMK looks like what that bang stick wants. Adjust seating depth and I believe .25 is on the radar. Good video as we get to enjoy and learn a thing or two.
I have to play with some heavies and Retumbo before I get to playing with seating depth on the SMKs but the rifle does like tham...don't it?
👍👍
before watching my money is on the Sierra match king I've been reloading with them for over 47 years I love them
I had high hope for the SMKs too, based off the fact my .308s love them too. They did not disappoint!
You are fine tuning now Sir, and doing a helluva job! Nice shooting and awesome video👍👊
I said it earlier, I did like that both loads shot well and hit in roughly the same spot in relation to the aim point. Two different loads shooting roughly the same...I cant complain.
Outstanding! Great groups. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, I really do appreciate you watching. Thanks!
Hi Halfmile, you are shooting on another level from me. Enjoy learning from you. For hunting in the Catskills I don’t need the rifles or scopes the you and WTW use. Thanks a bunch.
It is all in the trigger press Soldier...slow steady pressure increase and let it break on its own. Decent ammo helps a little bit though, lol. Thanks. I put together some solid copper rounds for hunting with this rifle. First attemps were hard pressed to shoot an inch group. I hope to refine that during the summer with a different solid copper projectile.
@@HalfmilesniperThanks take care my friend.

Very nice from both. They would do well on Sunday for Marmot Day while singing Me & My Shadow. Good loading & great rifle build. 👍🙏🎯
